Introduction

The selected site is located at Block E, Level 7’s balcony. Originally, in this

site there is nothing but an empty balcony with little to no aesthetic value. However,

this site has raw potential as it contains a beautiful view of the; surrounding campus,

greenery along the roads and car parks and view of the town. This site is supposed

to be an appropriate location for students or staff members to take a break and visit

the balcony for leisure time but due to the nature of the unused location, there is

nothing there but a simple balcony. Therefore, not many people would bother to

travel all the way up to the 7th floor to use the balcony.

Site Analysis

After analysing the site , we found out that the strength of wind is cooling enough to

cool the entire site. The wind comes in two directions which makes the site cooling.

Due to the roof existing at the site, it has created enough shade from the sunlight at

various directions and time. This has made the site a more suitable and comfortable

place to rest and leisure at all time.

Furthermore, students often face stress in studies and prefer to have a walk or find a

relaxing place to have a short gateway to release some stress. Followed by this

activity of the student, this site is needed for students who need to take a break from

work because it has a beautiful view of the surrounding campus, greenery along the

roads and view of the town. It is a suitable place for students to take a break in the

site. Besides that, classes and labs are located next to the site. Thus it is easier for

students to go there.

Concept

The concept for this project is to create another new green space in the campus

which is transforming the simple balcony into a fresh and relaxing green area.

Besides creating a new green space, we intend to abandon the usage of usual-

looking mainstream gardens and replace it with modernism and originality.

Collaborating with the design we made up, the concept of this project can be called

as MOR-DEN ELEVATED (Modern garden that is elevated) due to the elevated

slope on the planning site.

The purpose of this project is to fully utilise the open spaces around the campus

which is making use of the simple and empty balcony and transforming it into a

modern green space. With the implementation of the concept, users can visit the

balcony to take a rest and relax by lingering around, enjoying the scenery and

experiencing fresh air. Moreover, students can also observe the Sun rise and set in

the morning and evening, and stargazing during the night at the balcony.

Maintenance Plan

Lingustrum Jonandrum

- This plant requires regular watering three times a week. Feel

the soil and make sure it is damp to the touch, not sodden and

not tinder dry. This type of watering needs little and often,

rather than large quantities of water in one go.

Jasminum Sambac

- This plant likes full sun to partial shade. It

requires average watering. Watering is not

required if the soil is moist.

Zoysia Artificial Grass

- Every year, weed killer or special herbicide treatment

will be used to prevent weeds or moss. Any vegetation

can then be conveniently pulled out or swept off the turf.
