Tracking Emotions at Work

DESCRIPTION

Slides of my presentation at the Quantified Self Europe Conference, November 2011, Amsterdam. We presented and discussed several approaches to capturing emotions in workplace environments, as well as some of the challenges that they involve. These approaches are part of the MIRROR Project, whose main goal is supporting reflective learning at work, by creating an easily used set of applications ('Mirror' apps), that enable employees to learn lessons from their own and others experiences to perform better in the future.

Challenges

▪ Goal‐oriented and lack of time▪ Have to see the benefits/utility – show payoff▪ Create CURIOSITY

▪ Add entertainment, motivation, feedback▪ Constructive and positive

▪ Tendency to avoid/ignore emotions at work▪ What you show vs. what it really is

▪ Individual and collaborative environment

▪ Privacy concerns19

Conclusions and Outlook

▪ How can we motivate people to capture their         emotions at work?

▪ Automatic approaches i.e. sensors▪ ECG (heart rate), acceleration sensors (physical activity)▪ User study at a clinic*

More QS approaches can inspire new effective reflective tools!
