Ettore Ferrari (Italian, 1848–1929)Statue of Roman poet Ovid in Constanta, Romania
Sub astã piatrã zace Ovidiu, cântãrețulIubirilor gingașe, rãpus de-al sãu talent.O, tu, ce treci pe-aice, dac-ai iubit vreodatã,Te roagã pentru dânsul: sã-i fie somnul lin!
Under this stone lies Ovid, the poet of the gentle love, by his own talent killed.Oh, you who passes here, if you ever loved,Pray for him: may his soul rest in peace!
In 1925 a copy of this monument was erected in Sulmona, Ovid's birthplace

The statue was inspired by an urban legend from the mid 18th century: Julia was a girl who dressed up as a boy in order to attend classes at the university, which at that time was only open to men
