1/2
Solar electricity is a clean, reliable and cost-effective
source of power. Bavaria, Germany, has invested insolar energy because the Bavarian government is
committed to providing clean air for the community,
protecting the environment and securing a better
energy future. The Bavaria Solarpark was developed
in response to the newly amended German Renewable
Energy Law (EEG). This landmark legislation, which
established a renewable feed-in tariff for both ground-
mounted and rooftop mounted photovoltaic systems
with a 20-year power purchase guaranteed underthe EEG, is one of the most advanced renewable
energy policies in the world. German Environment
Minister Trittin has stated that Germany is striving
to have the worlds leading solar industry.

Solar power is environmentally friendly in many ways. Solar electric
power is a 100% renewable energy source, without noise pollution
or harmful emissions. Solar power improves air quality, because it
decreases the need to generate electricity from fossil fuels. Renewable
energy plays an important role in reducing the risk of global climate
change. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions depends on reducingthe amount of fossil fuel-generated energy we produce and consume.
Fossil fuels include coal, petroleum, and natural gas - which are used
to generate electric power and fuel transportation. By reducing the
purchase of fossil fuel-generated electricity, the Bavaria Solarpark
spares the environment from harmful emissions. Over the next 30
years, the solar generated electricity will reduce emissions of carbon
dioxide by almost 186,000 tons. These emissions reductions are
equivalent to planting nearly 20,300 acres of trees.
The Bavaria Solarpark consists of a ground-mounted photovoltaic
system that utilizes silicon technology to convert sunlight directly
into electricity. The 10 megawatt (MW) project, located on three sites,
uses PowerLights patented PowerTracker
technology to generateclean, reliable power, and delivers more power than conventional
fixed-tilt solar generation systems.
Covering a total of 62 acres (equivalent to 56 football fields) and
using 57,600 solar panels, the Bavaria Solarpark is the largest
photovoltaic project in world. Together with Siemens AG,
interconnection to the electrical grid will be made at each site with
the regional German utility E.ON Energie, with a 20-year power
purchase guaranteed under the German Renewable Energy Law
(EEG). This project has created hundreds of high quality jobs and
its sustainable design and construction preserves the natural beauty
and environmental quality of the region.
