ENERGY PARK, TAGUM CITY —The heavy downpour of rain did not dampen the spirit of more than 20,000 scouts and scouters who braved the torrent of raind during yesterday’s Grand Opening Ceremonies of the 16th National Scout Jamboree here.

Streamsofsmileswereflashedby Scouts and Scouters as theymadetheirwaytotheGrandArenaas Scouts and Scout Leaders gavesnappysalutetotheCampChiefandother bigwigs of the Boy Scouts ofthePhilippinespriortotheopeningof the country’s largest scoutingconclave. Vice President and BSPNationalPresidentJejomarC.Binaypraised the Boy Scouts for stayingthroughout the whole duration oftheopeningprogram. Yesterday’s opening programwasashowofunityofScouts,aswellasamanifestationofthestrengthofthescoutingmovementhere in thecountry. Thisyear’sNationalJamboreeisanchoredonthetheme“PeaceandDevelopmentthroughScouting.” AmongtheVIPswhojoinedthescoutsduringtheopeningprogramare Sarangani Rep.EmmanuelPacquiao and Regional Director J.

Rizal C. Pangilinan of the WorldScoutBureau-AsiaPacificRegion. Aside from PhilippineContingents, visiting delegationsfrom Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia,TaiwanandSouthKoreaalsojoinedthisyear’sJamboree. Due to bad weather, thesupposed skydive exhibition of thePhilippine Army Parachute Teamdidnotpushthroughasplannedbutthe crowd was treated to a seven-minute pyromusical fireworksdisplay after the unveiling of theTagumpayScoutingLandmark. Tagum City Mayor and 16thNSJCampChiefAllanL.RellonsaidhesharedtheprideofTagumenyosis hosting this event which onlytakesplaceonceineveryfouryears. “Tagum City accepted thischallenge, without hesitation andreadyasaBoyScout,”Rellonsaid. Rellon and otherbigwigs of the Boy Scouts of thePhilippinesandtheGirlScoutsofthePhilippinesDavaodelNorteCouncil. The Dahon MonumentwhichemphasizestheroleoftheScoutsasstewardsandprotectorof the environment was erected

at Energy Park was officiallyunveiled as part of the activitiesduring the kick-off of the 16thNational Scout Jamboree onOctober24,2015. “The monument highlightsthe immeasurable contributionof the scouts towards nation-building which represents thepillarsoftheirscout law:dutytoothers,tothecountry,andaboveall, duty to God,” the markerreads. Upon entering the sprawling Energy Park, one striking element that captures the attention of Scouts and Scouters is the Dahon Monument. The monument, officially called the Tagumpay Scouting Landmark, was unveiled in a fitting ceremony

yesterday by no less than Vice President Jejomar Binay. Behind this imposing structure is a genius.RayMujahidPonceMillan , also knownasKublaiMillanisaproudMindanaoan,apainter,artphotographer,digitalartist,andasculptor.Hegeneratedhis own portal to show his interpretation in regards with theessenceofscoutingthroughhisnewly-made“Dahon”monumentat theEnergyParkwhere the16thNationalScoutJamboreetakesplace fromOctober24-30,2015.The “Dahon”dearlyembodiestheloveofthescoutstotheenvironment.Itsthreebuddingleavesmeaningfullymimickingthescoutsignthat

represents thepillarofthescouts’law;dutyto others, to the country,and above all, duty toGod. The leaves alsosymbolize the scouts asprotectorsofenvironment.

This monument was erectedto highlight the immeasurable

contribution of the scoutingmovement towards nation-building as

wellasthecommitmentofthecityoftagumtotrainitsyouthtobecomeproductivecitizens of the community. This monument also celebrates the uniqueness ofTagumCity’sdiversityasaspringboardinfosteringpeace,unity,friendshipandworldbrotherhoodthroughscouting. Pulling back the scheming chain of his crafts, KublaiMillan’s artisitic handswere the ones behind the prominent landmarks in Tagum City. To name hismasterpieces in the city; the enormous “Risen Christ” at the Christ the KingCathedral,sculpturesinNewCityHallofTagumdisplayingdifferentfacesoftheLumadsandfiguresthatdepictthecityastheMusicCapitalofMindanaoandthe“Bangka”situatedinBincungan,TagumCity. Noneedtofindageniustodefinehisart.Hiscraftsmanshiptrulydescribeshispassionwithhisfieldintohisownperspectives,hismind’smechanicalimpulsioninappreciatingthingsintoaworkofart.Tomention,allhiscontributiontothe

citylandmarks,displayshisimmeasurableartistry.TheDahonmonumentwillbethelatesttrademarkinTagumCitywhichservesasthelivingproofthat the 16th National Scout Jamboree was once held in Tagum City.

Scouts are the building blocks of our country that could withstand against the unassailable waves of challenges of our present and future. This Jamboree is their training ground. According to the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) is the 3rd largest National Scout Organization (NSO) of the Asia Pacific Region (APR) after

Indonesia and India, with 10 scouting regions serving a total of 118 local scout councils nationwide. With this continuous growth of scouting movement, many youths of our nation have transpired to become good citizens. Scouting has always envisioned to develop morally straight, disciplined, concerned, self-reliant citizens in the best tradition of World Scouting. As the training ground of

the youth, it brings forth a solidarity of brotherhood that transcends outside the scouting movement instilling in the youth love of God, for the country and for his fellowmen. As the 16th National Scout Jamboree takes place it is a constant move to continually inspire the youth to be the hope of our Mother land and as long as the Scouts stand still, they will forever be messengers of peace and development.

Scouting pa more!When it rains, it pours. But during yesterday’s opening ceremonies, the rain proved to be a blessing. During the Press Conference after the opening program, BSP National President Jejomar Binay said that for the past National Jamborees, the rain has been

a constant visitor. But nothing can stop the Boy Scouts. As what VP Binay stressed at the beginning of his keynote speech: SCOUTING PA MORE!
