CONTRAINDICATIONSZITHROMAX9 is contraindicate in patiens with know hypersensitvt to azaroffycin, erytronmycin or anyrnacrotide antibiotic.
WARNINGSSerious allergic reacfions, including angioedefma, anaphyAds, and defm-tologic reacfions irxluding StevensJohnson Syndrorne and tovc epidermal necrolysis have been reported rarely in patients on azithromrycin therapy.Afthough rare, fatalitie have been reported. (See COWNTRINICATIONS.) Despite initially successful symptomafictreatment of the atlergic symptoms, when syrnptomaki therapy was disciontinued, the allergic symptoms recrredmmsoora ter in somre padets wffhout frhr aemyidn exposure. These patent required prolonged!periods of observation and symnptomatic teatment The reWioriship of these episodes to the long tfssue half-life ofazithrormycin and subsequent prolonged exlposure to antigen is unknown at present
If an allergic reacfion occurs, the drug should be disotnued and appropriatheftapy should be irsSttuted.Physicians shouid be aware that reappearance of the allergic sympUns may occur when symptomatic therpy isdiswrntnued.

PRECAUTIOIISGenrl: Because aziffronmyc n is principally eliminated via the liver, caution should be exercised when azithromycinis administered to patients with impaired hepatfic tunction. Due to the limited data in subjects u ith GFR <1O0 mUmin, caution should be exercise when prescribing azithromzycin in these patients
Prolonged cardiac repobrizabon and OT interval, imparting a risk of developing cardiac arrhythmia and absadesdpointes, have been seen in treatment with other macrolides. A similar effect with azithromycin cannot be completelyruled out in patients at increased risk for prolonged cardiac repoliarion.
Prescribing ZllHROMA) (azithromycin) in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacteral inection or aprophylaictic indicaffon is unlikely to provide benefit to the pafien and incireases the ris of the development of drug-resistan bacteria.Information for Patients: ZJTHROMAXO oral suspension can be take with orwOut food.
Patients; should also be cautioned not to take aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids and azithromycinsimultaneously. The patient should be directed to discontnue azthronTosn immediately and contac a physician if any signs of an
albrgic reacfion occur.Patiernts should be counseled that antibacterial drugs including ZITHROMAX* (azfithmmycin) should only be used to
treat bacterial Infecfions. They do not hrat viral inteclion (e.g., the common cold). When ZlTHROiMA)O (aithromycin)is prescribed to treat a bacteia infection, patients should be told that aithough it is common to feei better eady in thecourse of fth therapy, the medication shoud be taken exactly as dirctd. Slipping doses or not completing fth fullcourse of therapy may (1) decrease the effecXness of the immnediate treatnent and (2) increase the likelihood thabacteria will develop resistance and will not be treatabe by ZITHROMAX (azziffromycin) or ofthr arhbacterial dnugs inthe future.OiDm Inrde_: Co-admkWration of nehlfnanr at steady-state with a single ora dose of azthromycin resubd ininrveased azithromycin serum a r .Alffough a dose adjuWnent of azitromycin is not reommmended whenadministerd in comnbinaton with nelfinvir, clos mnixtorkV for kno H side effects of azithrmycin, SUCil as liver enzymeabnormiakies and hearHtg imparnent, is wraffntd. (See ADVEFtSE RECTIONiS.)
Azithromycin did not affect the prothromnbin time response to a single dose of warfarin. However, prudent medicalpractice dicte careful monitorng of prothrombin firme in all pabnts treated with azathonTycin and warfarinconcornfitany. Concurrert use of macrotides and warfarn in ciinical practice has been associated wit increasedantiulant effects.
Onug interacbon studies were performed with azithromycin and ofer drug likely to be co-administered. When usedin therapeufic doses, azithrormycin had a modest effect on tine pharrnacokinetics of atorvastatin, carbamazepine, cetrireine, didanosne, eftMmrnz, fluconazole, indinaviir, mklazolam, ritabiAin, sildenfil, fthotline (iintravenous andoral), triazolam, trimetimprim/suffamnethoxaoe or idovudine. Co-administration with efWiren or flucorwole had amodest effect on the pharmacoldnetics of azithromycin. No dosage adjustrnent of either drug is recommended whenazftronrin is coadministered wft any of the above agent.Insah wih fth drugs listed below have not been reported in clinical ftris with azithmomy*n ihowever, rno
specific drug irteraction studies have been perforned to evaluate potential drug-drug ireaction. Nonethless, fthehave been observed with macrolide products. Untl furthr data are developed rearing drug interactons whenazitrorndn and Diese drugs are used concomitantly, careful monitodng of pifents is advised:
