Ang kanyang ama na si Adam Smith ay namatay anim na buwan bago pa siya ipinanganak.

Latin, Matematika, History at pagsulat. Nag-aral ng Moral Philosophy sa

Glasgow University sa edad na 14 noong 1737 at nagtapos noong 1740.

Naimpluwensyahan rin siya ni Francis Hutcheson na kanyang guro at kilala rin na Pilosopo.

1751 sa edad na 28.
