How to Use

VLC

Open web browser

Go to “videolan.org”

Click “Download VLC”

Click “Save File”

Double-click the installer

to install VLC

Click “Yes” to install

Click to select language

Click “OK”

Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Click “Next”

Click “Install”

Click “Finish”

VLC media player will open

Click “Media”

Click “Open file”

Open the folder of the video

Click to select video file

Click “Open”

The video will immediately play

Basic controls located at the bottom

Pause/Play button

Skip backward button

Stop button

Skip forward button

Full screen mode button

Seek bar

Mute/Unmute button

Volume display

To adjust volume,

hover mouse over chart

Scroll mouse wheel to adjust volume

Click the right end of seek bar

Drag seek bar to left to go backward

Drag seek bar to right to advance

To convert a video format,

click “Media”

Click “Convert/Save”

Click “Add”

Click video file to convert

Chosen video file “sample.avi”

is an AVI formatted video

Click “Open”

Click “Convert/Save”

Click the drop down arrow

Choose video format

you want it converted

Click “Video-H.264 + MP3 (MP4)”

Click “Browse”

Open destination folder

Type file name you want:

BelleSample

Click “Save”

Click “Start”

The seek bar displays the

conversion progress

Double-click

to open destination folder

Converted video to MP4 is displayed

Double-click

“BelleSample.mp4” to play video

Video in MP4 format is playing

Click “X” when done

Let’s download YouTube

video using VLC

Open web browser

Go to “youtube.com”

Click “My Channel”

Click a video to play

The YouTube video will play

Click the address bar

The whole address is highlighted

Right-click the address or URL

Click “Copy”

Or Once the URL is highlighted

Press

(CTRL + C = Copy)

Open VLC window

Click “Media”

Click “Open Network Stream”

Click “Network” tab

Right-click on the text box

Click “Paste”

Or

Press

(CTRL + V = Paste)

Click “Play”

The video will play

Click “Tools”

Click “Codec Information”

Click “General”

Right-click on the “Location” box

Click “Select All”

Once highlighted,

right-click text on box

Click “Copy”

Click “Close”

Go back to browser window

Right-click on URL bar

Click “Paste”

Press “Enter”

Right-click on the video

Click “Save Video As”

Replace file name

Type “TEDx1”

Click “Save”

Click “X” to close browser window

Click “X” to close VLC

Let’s try to open the downloaded

YouTube video

Open video on folder: Desktop

Double-click “TEDx1.mp4”

The downloaded video will play

Press F1

Help window will open
