Investing in African Mining Indaba: Evolving to Meet Your Changing Needs

Investing in African Mining Indaba® remains the preferred deal-making platform for mining in Africa, bringing together mining corporates who seek investment, investors who want to strike deals in the mining sector, and government ministers who pursue both groups to discuss new projects in their countries. Over the past few years Mining Indaba has been evolving to better meet the changing needs of the African mining community.

The recent resurgence of this event may surprise you. Take a look, and then join us again in Cape Town in 2017. Only your participation and engagement at Mining Indaba will ensure that this week in Cape Town yields highly productive business and future projects.

Stronger Value Proposition for Investors

NEW

Reduced Pricing for Mining and Exploration Companies

Market conditions and unfavorable currency-conversion rates have made it harder for miners to attend. So Mining Indaba has lowered registration fees from 30% to 50% below 2016 for mining corporates. Rates are based on company size and type – private, state-owned, and public companies at the large, medium, small, micro, and nano levels of market capitalisation.

Investment Discovery Forum: A Dedicated Platform for Miners and InvestorsIntroduced in 2014, the Investment Discovery Forum (IDF) gives miners an exclusive platform to present details of their company’s projects in Africa.

Augmented by thought leadership and commodity-specific panel sessions, IDF exists solely for investors and miners to come together to put capital to work.

The Investment Discovery Forum operates in an intimate yet highly effective venue at the Westin Hotel. Coupled with the VIP Investor Programme and VIP Investor Lounge, IDF finally gives investors and miners the opportunity for the interaction and engagement they seek INSIDE the Mining Indaba.

Business Networking, Evolved At its core, Mining Indaba is the leading forum in which investors, miners and government ministers meet to share information, foster business relationships, and seek potential partners for new ventures. In recent years we’ve introduced new ways to bring people together:

The Business Matchmaking ProgrammeThis networking tool enables every Mining Indaba registrant to request a meeting with any other attendee who chooses to participate. Nearly 75% of registrants use it to connect with others. Accessible online or on mobile, the 2016 Indaba

recorded 2,386 meetings confirmed through this programme. The BMP platform has been upgraded for 2017, making it easier to set up meetings with other attendees.

Speed-Networking: Fast and Effective In 2016 we introduced Commodity Speed-Networking. Each of the eight 30-minute sessions concentrated on a different commodity. As a participant, you can meet others interested in that commodity and engage quickly. Each meeting lasts

just two minutes, enough time to introduce yourself and exchange business cards before moving on to meet the next person. More than 2,000 people participated in this inaugural programme, which will be expanded in 2017 to enable wider participation.

Networking RoundtablesIntroduced in 2016, the

Networking Roundtables bring together like-minded professionals to participate in open discussion about topics such as sustainability, mining regulations, power and water, mine closures and the impact on community, and infrastructure developments.

Expanded Meeting SpaceIn 2016 the conference dedicated more square footage to meeting space than in

any previous year. Using the combined facilities of the Business Matchmaking Lounge, the NedBank Lounge and the JSE VIP Investor Lounge, this year’s Indaba focused on what people wanted most: face-to-face meetings. Meeting space also can be reserved upon request for private meetings.

A Trade Show? Look Closer

For the past two years, Mining Indaba has driven a change in the type of companies you will see in the exhibition hall. Did you notice the boots, ball bearings and barbed-wire guys are gone?

With more than 250 sponsoring and exhibiting companies it’s easy to miss – but, as organizers we have turned away or not renewed more than 40 vendors that do not support Mining Indaba’s objectives. This process will continue to ensure that the conference stays focused and on point.

Welcome Back to Mining IndabaThese organisations are among those that have returned with renewed interest to participate in Mining Indaba:

Giving Back to AfricaAs organisers of Mining Indaba, we remain committed to giving back to the continent, to the industry, and to the country that has served as our gracious host since 1993. In this spirit, we support these programs.

Partnership with IDC Supporting Journalism StudentsMining Indaba partners with our sponsor IDC to provide real reporting experience for four African students studying journalism. They are assigned conference sessions to cover, and submit articles that are then published in the Daily News, a print publication produced by Mining Indaba and distributed to conference delegates.

Partnership with Els for Autism South AfricaMining Indaba continues its collaboration with the Els for Autism Foundation (established by Ernie Els, the renowned, world-champion South African golfer) for the annual Mining Indaba Golf Tournament. A portion of the tournament proceeds is donated each year to the Foundation.

Young Leaders Career Development Programme In 2016, Indaba launched this new idea designed to help mining students and graduates to meet the new challenges they face. Human Resource representatives from the leading players in Africa’s mining sector are available to meet with participants, who later may attend a careers workshop.

Education Initiative for Underprivileged StudentsMining Indaba supports REAP, Rural Education Access Programme. Through it we support five talented and motivated young South Africans from poor rural areas. We give them the chance to study at high-quality tertiary institutions, and this endowment supplies them with computers, text books and other supplies.

Bursary ProgrammeNow in its fifth year, the Mining Indaba burse helps four South African mining/engineering students with tuition, books, meals, and other academic expenses.

An Agenda to InspireIf you want to learn about the latest developments in African mining – from investment opportunities and innovation to new regulations, case studies, and sustainability – then you must attend Mining Indaba. No other international event offers such a robust agenda and vital possibilities.

You can choose from multiple tracks that showcase thought leadership on the industry’s most urgent issues. And you can hear inspiring keynotes from an unmatched group of leading mining CEOs, investors, and other industry experts. This year’s roster will feature more than 200 speakers and panelists.

Each year the Mining Indaba conducts deep market research and consults with industry insiders to ensure that content meets the mark. In 2017 you will see an even tighter focus on the “tough issues” as well as more crucial debate and dialogue aimed at moving the industry forward.

This vigorous cross-section of content offers you an unparalleled opportunity to customize your Indaba experience to meet your needs.

What’s New? A half-day longer – the event now begins on Monday morning

Expanded Content – Panel discussions and debate, interactive roundtables, educational seminars, special information sessions, a career-skills workshop, and country-specific investment clinics

A reworked Sustainable Development Programme features organizations that are driving change

“My Mining Indaba”You are a large and diverse group of 6,000 participants, and every one of you has unique needs and objectives. Our focus: to ensure the value proposition for each of you is realized.

The concept of My Mining Indaba has been created for that very reason.

This idea considers how we communicate with you, the diversity of our programming, the networking options we offer, and, importantly, how you plan your week at Mining Indaba.

Information and offers are now tailored to the type of organisation you work for. We created several tools to enable you to customize your experience, to maximize your time, and to drive results.

The Mining Indaba WebsiteUse it to filter the agenda and quickly find what interests you most. Plus, it’s loaded with quick links for investors, governments and miners.
