text tell about?
• How does the text develop, in the order of content or in the order of time?
Suggested answers about the test
• The text tells about the following table manners : how to lay the table; how to use forks and knives; how to behave at the table;etc.
• The text develop in the order of time :the dinner-----starting the dinner -----having the main course -----drinking
Difficult points about the text :1.The knife and fork that are close to your plate are a little bit bigger than the ones besides them.
“ones” is used instead of “the knife and fork”mentioned earlier to avoid repetitions.
2.In China, you sometimes get a hot, damp cloth to clean your face and hands,which,however, is not the custom in western countries.
“which”is used as relative pronouns to introduce the Non-restrictive Attributive Clause .which refers to the whole sentence before it, that is ,refers to “you sometimes get a hot , damp cloth to clean your face and hand”

Table manners change in China
• Women were not allowed to eat at the table.(Now women can sit together with the others and eat at the same time.
• Seat used to be arranged around the table according to the age or importance of the guests.(It is still a strong tradition at important banquets in the countryside,but no longer in cities.)
• It used to be impolite to eat up all the food from the plate (People now accepted that it is better not to waste food. It is becoming OK to take left-over food home.
