All around us, there are constant temptations to put ourselves and our wishes ahead of what God wantsourselves from God. The Armenian Church has nine daily services: Night Service, Morning Service, Sunrise Service, Third Hour Service, Sixth Hour Service, Ninth Hour Service, Evening Service, Peace Service and Rest Service. Each of the daily services is addressed to one of the persons of the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit. During Lent the Peace Service, the Rest Service, and the Sunrise Service are performed more often than at other times of the year. During this Lenten season, in our church the Peace and Rest Services will take place on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 pm and the Sunrise Service will take place every Thursday at 10:30am and every Sunday following Divine Liturgy. The Sunrise ServiceThe Sunrise ServiceThe Sunrise ServiceThe Sunrise Service is an early morning service that is unique to the Armenian Church and reminds us that God is the giver of the light of the morning and the light of salvation. It is dedicated to the praising of the Holy Spirit. It is offered at sunrise and is identified with Christ’s Resurrection. Catholicos Ezr I (630-641) separated this service from the morning Service, and in the 12th century it was enriched with hymns of St. Nerses Shnorhali ( 1173). Even though during the Lent the Church takes on a mournful demeanor, the Sunrise Service is quite joyous where the main theme is the “light,” that represents our Lord.

Peace ServicePeace ServicePeace ServicePeace Service is performed in the late evening and contains prayers for peace at the end of the day. It is dedicated to the Holy Spirit and symbolizes Christ’s descent to Hell and liberation of the righteous people from torments. It is offered after sunset. The prayers remind us that God is with us even in the face of trial and temptation. Rest ServiceRest ServiceRest ServiceRest Service is dedicated to God the Father. In early times it was the continuation of the Peace service. It is offered before retiring for the day and contains prayers asking Gods continuous protection throughout the night.

• 4 cups of chopped carrots• 1 cup of chopped green pepper• 1 large onion finely diced• 1/4cup of extra virgin olive oil• 2 tbsp tomato paste • 1 cup of finely chopped parsley• 0.5 tsp. black peppecorn• 2 tbsp. dried oregano • 2 bay leaves • Salt & Pepper to taste
