Real 고등학생들이

Real 학교를 다니면서

느끼고 포착한

“청소년이 바라는 세상”에 대하여

직접 우리의 손으로 담아냈습니다.

수업시간 중, 등하굣길, 점심시간,

쉬는 시간, 학원가는 길에

항상 우리 손에 들려있던 핸드폰 카메라로

총 15명의 고등학생이 6개월 간

직접 촬영하고 글을 쓰고 번역한 사진집입니다.

이 사진집을 통해 보다 더 많은 사람들이

청소년에게 관심을 가지고 이해해주길 바랍니다.

This publication is a collection of photographic

m e m o r i e s t a k e n b y r e a l s t u d e n t s , a t

real schools, portraying every corner of

contemporary teenagers' lives to show what

"the world they want to live in" looks like.

These were captured by fifteen high school

students during classes and breaks and on

their way to and from school and Hagwons

using their own cell phone cameras. It has

taken a total of six months for them to collect

these photos, write the notes, translate

them into English and eventually have this

photo essay published. Through this book,

we hope that more people will come to have

a better understanding of young people.

우리는 매일 같은 옷을 입고 학교에 다니는데

가방까지 같은 색을 들고 싶지 않습니다.

우리도 개성을 표현하고 싶습니다.

We already wear the exact same uniforms to

school everyday. We think that it is reasonable

to ask for allowances to be made for different

colored bags. We simply want a way to express

our unique personalities.

우리는 때때로 학교 밖에서는 이름을 공개하고 싶지

않습니다. 명찰을 장소에 따라 숨기거나 보일 수 있게

하는 것은 어떨까요?

Sometimes we don't want to reveal our names

to anyone and everyone who look upon us,

especially outside of the school gates. Wouldn't

it be better if we could take our name tags on

and off as we wish?

교실마다 붙어 있습니다. 이것을 본 내 친구들이 '나'에

대하여 왜곡된 인식을 갖지 않았으면 좋겠습니다.

단지 우리들의 성적이 차이난다는 이유로 자습 공간까지

차별받아야 하나요? 모두가 차별받지 않고 어우러져

공부하는 모습이야말로 우리가 바라는 학교의 모습입니다.

Is it fair to segregate our study spaces, depending

on our grades? The ideal school that we picture is

one where we can study with equal opportunities

in equal environments.

전교생의 사물함이 한 곳에 모여 있는 장소에 붙어 있는

전교 100등까지의 석차, 우리의 성적보다 내면을 중시

하는 사회에서 살고 싶습니다.

On the walls next to everyone's lockers is a

spreadsheet of the top 100 students' names and

their corresponding scores.

We keep our fingers crossed for a world that will

value our inner selves, not just arbitrary numbers

and letter grades.

세상의 기준에 맞춰 살기 위해서는 고등학교 생활이

참 버겁습니다. 왜 공부를 해야 하는지 궁금할 때도

있습니다. 이런 저런 압박 속의 현실에서 잠깐이나마

숨을 돌릴 수는 없을까요?

High school life can be a big burden if we are to

live up to the standard imposed on us by society.

Sometimes we wonder why we must study at all.

Can't we take a little break from this stressful

reality?

과도한 연습량으로 운동하는 친구들은 학습권을 보장 받지

못하는 경우가 있습니다. 운동을 통해 학교의 명예를 높

이는 것은 좋은 일이지만 그들 역시 학생이기에 학습권

만큼은 침해되지 않아야 합니다.

Sports talents are often not guaranteed enough

time for classes due to their excessive training.

Their contr ibut ion to making our school

prestigious matters, but they are fellow students,

first and foremost. Their training should not

interfere with their learning.

우리는 매일 학교와 학원을 오가며 눈코 뜰 새 없이 바쁜

생활 속에서 가족과 저녁식사를 하고 친구와 놀러 다녔던

기억은 벌써 오래 전 일이 되었습니다. 저녁 10시 학원이

아닌 집에서 가족과 함께 시간을 보내고 싶습니다.

Having dinner with our family, having fun with

friends. Such memories have faded away, long

replaced by busy schedules that keep us in school

by day, and hagwons by night. At ten o’clock in

the evening, we want to be spending time at home

with our family, not within the walls of a hagwon.

밤늦게 집으로 돌아가는 딸을 마중 나와 무거운 책가방을 들어

주시는 아버지. 당신께서도 회사 일을 끝마치고 정장도 갈아입지

않은 채 딸이 어두운 밤거리를 혼자 오게 둘 수 없어서 데리러 나

오셨나봅니다. 지친 아버지가 마중 나오시지 않더라도 안전한

귀가 길이 될 수 있는 세상이 되었으면 좋겠습니다.

Late at night, a father escorts his daughter home,

carrying for her a heavy backpack. Unwilling to let his

daughter navigate the streets alone in the darkness, he

come straight to the school gates from work, with no

time to even change out of his suit. We would like to live

in a world that is a place where we can walk home alone

without causing our parents to worry about our safety.

우리는 꿈을 찾아나가고 있습니다. 때로는 갈피를 못 잡고

방황도 합니다. 하지만 다양한 체험 활동과 진로 교육은

우리의 꿈을 키워나가는 데에 또 다른 길을 열어줄 수

있습니다.

We are searching for dreams, and careers.

Sometimes we get confused so we get lost and

wander without direction. The introduction

and implementation of diverse extracurricular

opportunities and career counseling courses can

unlock the doors to possibilities we never would

have thought of.

주말마다 외부인이 차지하고 있는 학교 운동장.

"학교의 주인"인 학생들은 어디서 축구를 해야 할까요?

우리도 넓게 펼쳐진 잔디를 밟으며 공을 차고 싶습니다.

Every weekend, our school grounds are occupied

with unwelcomed guests. Where, then, should

students go to practice their weekend sports?

농구장에 주차된 차량으로 인해 학교로부터 멀리

떨어진 곳에서 농구를 해야 합니다. 어른들의 편의보다

우리들을 위한 배려가 필요해 보입니다.

Our students have had to take their basketball

games somewhere far from school grounds,

because our own court now serves as a parking

lot. It looks as though we are in need of some

adults who know to take us into consideration,

rather than making convenience their first

priority.

흙먼지가 날리는 운동장이 비교되는 사진입니다.

우리 모두가 좋은 환경에서 공부하고 뛰어 놀 수 있길

바랍니다.

Have you seen the stark contrast between two

fields lying side-by-side under the same blue

sky?: one neatly kept with green grass and the

other, more simple field blown with dust. We

wish to be educated under equally pleasant

environments where we can learn and run

이런 '구역'들 덕분에 우리 학생들은 보다 편안한

There are several allocated 'zones' for the safety

of students. It is thanks to these, that we can go

to school with an assured mind, knowing that

we are safe.

학교에서 이동할 때 계단을 이용하는 것은 우리에게는 당연한

일이지만 몸이 불편한 친구에게는 쉽지 않은 일입니다.

그들에게 필요한 시설이 많은 학교에 설치되었으면 좋겠습니다.

We often take it for granted that we always use the

stairs while moving between classes, but for some

of our friends, this is not an easy task. We hope that

proper facilities can be installed in our schools so that

all students, regardless of any disabilities they may

have, can attend school with equal convenience.

돈을 주며 빵을 사오라고 하고 가방을 대신 들게 하고,

심지어 와이파이까지 켜라고 하는...

즐거운 추억으로 가득해야 할 우리 학교의 일면입니다.

우리는 이러한 모습이 하루 빨리 사라지길 희망합니다.

fetch snacks, carry their bags or even allow them

access to his wi-fi. This is one of the dark underside

to our school life, that otherwise should be filled

with happy memories. We hope for these practices

혼자 있는 친구의 마음을 아시나요?

그 친구에게 가장 큰 힘이 되는 것은 따뜻한 손길입니다.

용기를 갖고 먼저 다가간다면 우리의 학교는 조금 더

따뜻해질 것입니다.

Do yo know what it feels like to be lonely in

a crowded space? A warm and open heart is

the biggest help you can give to someone who

might be feeling very alone. Having the courage

to approach a friend with sincerity is the way to

make a better school.

학교에 CCTV가 필요할 때가 있습니다.

다만 CCTV 촬영에 대한 정보가 충분히 제공되지

않는다면, 우리는 때때로 불쾌함을 느낄 것입니다.

There are times when it is important that

security cameras keep a watchful eye over us.

But if we are not fully informed about it, it can

also make us feel quite uncomfortable.

학교에 대한 의견이 있어도 표현하지 못하는 벙어리

같은 답답한 생활... 교내에 배치된 건의함은 우리의

숨통을 트이게 해주는 하나의 수단입니다.

It can be frustrating when our input for the
