+Problem Statement

Low-income caregivers of persons with mental health conditions disproportionally affected by limited resources and support due to the lack of information or access, which is an underserved need in the mental healthcare ecosystem which currently focuses on the people with mental health conditions.

+Mental Health Awareness in Singapore

There is a cultural stigma associated with mental illness.

No insurance coverage for mental healthcare expenses, it’s not recognized as a disability in Singapore

11 articles on Mental Health in the Annals in the last 20 years; The official medical journal of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore

The last major study on Singapore’s Mental Health was the Singapore Mental Health Study in 2010.

+Caregiver Support

IMH (Institute of Mental Health) has 15 available helplines and only 2 specifically caters to caregivers

There is no 1 portal or hub that consolidates all other available resources in the open

There are varies resources: Caregivers Alliance Singapore Family Caregivers AIC – umbrella body which decides resource allocation for

various mental health programs in the country

Many caregivers suffer from burnout, which maybe a precursor to other mental conditions

High level of anxiety and depression “co-morbidity”

Detection is a challenge

+Our Solution

End-to-end solution starting from pre-diagnosis caregiving (Detection and Diagnosis) and post-diagnosis caregiving (Support) for low-income people who do not have a reliable Internet connection

Pre-Diagnosis: Grassroots leader training and networking initiative ‘Kaypoh Buddies’

Post-Diagnosis: SMS concierge “Care Rabbit’

+Pre-Diagnosis: #KEWT “Kaypoh Early Warning Transmission programme”

Kaypoh: Singaporean Slang – A nosy person

Increase the chances of timely detection of mental illness by harnessing the wider community

VWOs will provide training for grassroot leaders and Kaypoh buddies (through identification by grassroots/FSC)

Training needs to sensitize Kaypoh buddies to the social pressures faced by the sufferers of mental illness and their family members

Kaypoh buddies will use their community ties with sufferer’s family members to encourage them to tap VWO services when needed

Kaypoh buddies will surface cases to the VWO which require attention by the VWO mobile support team.

+Post-Diagnosis: #KARE “KAre Rabbit Experience”

Care Rabbit A SMS concierge which is a social enterprise that will

employ persons with physical disabilities who can operate SMS phone lines
