World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
2020 Scientific Research Grant
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is an international, independent agency, composed and
funded equally by the Sport Movement and Governments of the World.
Their key activities include scientific research, education, development of anti-doping capacity,
investigations, and monitoring compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) - the
document harmonizing anti-doping policies across all sports and all countries.
Research Fields: For 2020, the HMRC Committee has identified relevant areas of research
in the field of anti-doping. In particular, those related to the 2020 List of Prohibited Substances
and Methods.
Higher priority will be granted to proposals addressing:
Detection/improvement of detection of peptide hormones (e.g. 2-5 kDa) and growth
factors
Improved window or limits of detection for prohibited substances/methods (e.g. detection
of new long-term metabolites including administration studies, improved methodologies of
detection, multianalytes)
Thresholds to distinguish permitted (e.g. out-of-competition or route) from prohibited use
(e.g. beta-2-agonists, stimulants), natural sources vs intended use or presence in food
residues
Autologous blood transfusions (including by proteomics or validation of molecular
signatures)
The ABP (e.g. new biomarkers and target analytes of the ABP including its
hematological, steroidal and endocrine modules)
Selected Certified Reference Material (consult WADA for materials needed)
WADA seeks innovative, fact-based research that will help the community to identify new
trends
in doping, new drugs, new delivery mechanisms and new methods of detection.
WADA gives priority to projects with direct and imminent applicability (including human
studies if applicable). It rarely funds basic research projects.
For 2020, proposals will be classified as follows:
Detection of doping substances/methods: methodologies in analytical chemistry;
Detection of doping substances/methods: affinity-binding and biochemical methodologies;
Pharmacological studies of doping substances/methods;
The Athlete Biological Passport;
Detection of doping substances/methods: molecular biology, “omics” and miscellaneous
methodologies;
Budget and Period: Budget and research period limits not specified in the CFP documents.

elevate the quality of real estate investment decision making.
Dissertations, post-dissertation research and research proposals by non-tenured faculty
are welcome and will receive special consideration.
Projects involving researchers from different disciplines also are welcome.
Research Fields: Major themes underlying research projects that RERI seeks to fund to help
understand implications for real estate pricing, risk-adjusted performance and investment
strategy include the following:
Risk
Globalization of Capital Flows
Demographic Shifts
Technology
Sustainability
Specific topics that RERI views as priorities include, but are not limited to, the following:
o Real Estate as an Asset Class
o Performance Measurement and Portfolio Risk Analytics
o Real Estate Equity Investment: Private and Public
o Real Estate Capital Markets: Domestic and Global Flows, Liquidity, Pricing and Risk
o Property Market Fundamentals and Research Data Analytics
o Commercial Mortgage Debt and Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS)
In an effort to support private market real estate research, RERI may be able to assist in
acquiring data from major third-party real estate data providers; a list of data providers is
available on the RERI website, www.reri.org .
Budget and Period: Up to $15,000
Researchers funded by RERI may, at the Board’s discretion, be invited to a roundtable
discussion and/or to present results at the annual RERI Research Conference in 2021.
Reasonable travel costs (up to $1,000) will be covered by RERI.
The length of the proposal should be up to 6 pages.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative
Essential Open Source Software for Science
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative invites applications in support of open source software projects
that are essential to biomedical research. The goal of the program is to support software
maintenance, growth, development, and community engagement for these critical tools.
The aim of this grant is to provide projects with resources to support their tools and the
communities behind them. The grant can be used for funding additional developer, improving
documentation, addressing usability, improving compatibility, onboarding contributors,
convening a community and more, all for with the aim to help make the computational
foundations of biological research more usable and robust.
Research Fields: Applications for software projects that are essential to biomedical research,
have already demonstrated impact, and can show potential for continued improvement.
Applications for two broad categories of open source projects will be considered in scope:
Domain-specific software for analyzing, visualizing, and otherwise working with the
specific data types that arise in biomedical science (e.g., genomic sequences,
microscopy images, molecular structures).
Foundational tools and infrastructure that enable a wide variety of downstream
software across several domains of science and computational research (e.g., numerical
computation, data structures, workflows, reproducibility). While foundational tools will be
considered in scope for this program, they must have demonstrated impact on some
area(s) of biomedical research.
Budget and Period: Applicants can request funding between $50,000 and $250,000 ,
for a period of one year.
CZI will consider and potentially fund multiple applications from the same organization,
multiple applications related to the same open source project(s), and multiple
applications that include the same staff and/or project contributors. However, the
proposed work in such applications must be distinct.
Proposals supporting multiple open source projects are encouraged.
Application round at the portal opens in mid-December 2019.
Future funding cycle portal opening date: mid-June 2020
Successful awardees from the first cycle are eligible to apply for a renewal in the third cycle,
with a budget and scope of work that can be either similar or altered depending on project
needs.
No-cost extensions also will be considered.
