1. The Palestinian group Hamas has taken control of the main security headquarters of Fatah in the Gaza Strip. Hamas supporters raised their flags over the building in Gaza city. The move followed the fierce fighting between the two sides. At least 25 people were killed in the fighting Thursday. Nearly 100 people have died in six days of clashes. Fatah supporters still control the West Bank. That is where Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas remains. Mr. Abbas says he is studying suggestions that Fatah withdraw from the Palestinian unity government or declare emergency rule. Also on Thursday, Palestinian medical workers said an Israeli tank shell hit the Gaza town of Rafah. They said the attack killed at least four Palestinians including some children.

2. In Lebanon, thousands of people have attended the funeral of parliament member Walid Eido. Mourners repeatedly denounced Syria during the funeral march in Beirut. Saad Hariri and other leaders of the anti-Syrian group in Lebanon’s parliament led the march. Mr. Hariri said the criminals responsible for Mr. Eido's murder would be punished. The Lebanon’s lawmaker, his son and eight other people were killed in a bomb attack on Wednesday. Allies of Mr. Eido have blamed Syria for the attack. Syria has condemned the bombing and denied responsibility.

3. Several Sunni religious centers were attacked in Iraq Thursday. At least six such centers have been burned or bombed since the bomb explosions Wednesday at a Shiite holy place. Officials suspect al-Qaeda militants are to blame for the bombing of the Askariya Mosque in Samara.

. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has increased security at religious centers across the country. Iraqi officials declared a curfew in Samara and Baghdad. Yet hundreds of Iraqis ignored the curfew and demonstrated in the Sadr City area of Baghdad to protest the Samara attack. Demonstrations were also held in Najaf and Basra.

4. An official in Chinese-controlled Macao says North Korean money has been moved as North Korea requested. Macao’s finance minister confirmed Thursday that Bank of Delta Asia has released most of the 25 million dollars. The bank has controlled the money since 2005. North Korea has refused to honor an agreement to begin closing its Yongbyon nuclear center until the money was released. Movement of the money was restricted two years ago after the United States accused North Korea of financial wrongdoing.

5. In Nepal, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has met with former American President Jimmy Carter. The former president called the Prime Minister a hero. He also praised him for helping Nepal to establish peace. Mr. Koirala was actively involved in efforts to end the total rule of Nepal’s King Gynandries last year. He also urged Maoist rebels to stop fighting and join the government. Mr. Carter arrived in Katmandu Wednesday for a four-day visit. During his stay, he also will meet with the Maoist leader Prachanda.
