Taranaki Iwi Trust Land Claim Mandate Update: Taranaki Iwi Trust is currently at stage 1, of the Taranaki Iwi Land claim mandate strategy. It is pro-posed that the Taranaki Iwi Trust be the mandated body to pursue the Land claims and would be responsible for overall conduct of the negotiations. The permission to pursue this ‘take’, is sort by all Taranaki Iwi descendants and several hui have already been undertaken to provide information of Taranaki iwi Trust involvement, commitment and to gage support or otherwise from our people. A mandate is the authority to enter into discussions and agreements with the Crown on their behalf. Any Crown commitment to negotiating with the Trust is conditional upon the Trust being mandated by Taranaki iwi people. The mandate to negotiate will only give authority to negotiate a draft Deed of Settlement. Taranaki iwi must then vote on whether to accept the Deed.

Taranaki Iwi Trust continues to conduct hui to update and inform the Taranaki Iwi people regarding this issue. More information regarding the Taranaki Land Claim will be forwarded to you soon………..

Whare Whakatikatika to instigate the re-development of our Marae. They have plans to up-

grade the whare kai and extend the dining room, new wharepaku, showers and new wharenui.

The Marae committee are having a working bee on 13th, 14th & 15th July, everyone is wel-

come to come along and lend a helping hand.

Next Meetings: Nga Hapu O Orimupiko Hui August 17th, 10am.

Open Day 21st September, 10am.
