Nan Whitley has beenthe softball coach atCatawba College since1983. During sevenseasons of slow pitchsoftball (1983-89), herteams won 69 percent of their games (178-79). Whit-ley, with the assistance of her husband, Cecil, wonfive slow-pitch conference or district championshipsin the 1980s. In 1990, Catawba and the entire SouthAtlantic Conference moved to fast-pitch competition.
In fast-pitch competition,the Lady Indians haveposted a 467-530-3, in-cluding a school-record41 wins in 2007. In 2012,Catawba advanced toNCAA II regional play forthe first time in schoolhistory. The Lady Indi-ans had advanced to theSAC Tournament Cham-pionship game in 2011.Overall, Coach Whitley'srecord stands at 646-608-3.
Over the years, the Whit-leys and their playershave developed family-like relationships. The1987 team stands outmore than any other, dueto its 39-7 record. The 39victories were a thenschool mark for wins in asingle season for any
sport in the history of Catawba College athletics.

NAN WHITLEYHEAD COACH
Whitley hails from Ephrata, PA, where she enjoyedan outstanding athletic career at Ephrata Area HighSchool. She came to Catawba and played fieldhockey and softball. She graduated in 1974 with abachelor's degree in health and physical education.Whitley served as the Catawba field hockey coachfrom 1982-2000, posting a 128-163-13 record anda Deep South Association championship in 1988.
Due to her outstanding accomplishments as a two-sport athlete and coach at Catawba, Whitley be-came the first woman inducted into the school'sSports Hall of Fame on April 3, 1993.
Nan and Cecil reside in Salisbury. They have adaughter Adrian, an assistant with the softball pro-gram, and a son, Alex.

Adrian Gantt has been anassistant coach with theCatawba College softballprogram since 2001. Sheserves as the pitchingcoach. For four seasons,Gantt was the head coach of the Catawba fieldhockey team.
A 1998 graduate of Catawba, Gantt earned a bach-elor of arts degree in biology. Gantt received a mas-ter of science degree in exercise science atAppalachian State in 2000.
Gantt was a two-sport athlete at Catawba, playingfour years of field hockey and softball. She was atwo-time All-American in field hockey and twiceearned All-South Atlantic Conference honors in soft-ball. Gantt received the Lomax Award for Catawba’stop senior femaleathlete in 1998.
At East RowanHigh School, Ganttearned nine letters.She earned all-county and all-con-ference honors incross country andhelped the softballteam to a pair ofstate tournamentappearances.
Gantt and her hus-band, Jim, reside inSalisbury with theirdaughter, Blakely.Jim is the Catawbahead baseballcoach.
Shane Prescott joined theCatawba Softball programas an assistant coach forthe 2007 season. Prescottcame to Catawba fromPfeiffer University where hewas with the Falcon program for six seasons andwas head coach the last four years.
A 1995 graduate of Randolph Community College,Prescott earned an associate degree in applied sci-ence. He graduated in 1999 from Blue Ridge HealingArts Academy with a license to practice massageand bodywork therapy.
Prescott resides in Concord with his wife, Jennifer.They have two daughters, Adda and Emme.
