ASCE North Central Student Conference Student Chapter,
This is your 2014 North Central Regional Conference Mailer III. Please read carefully through this packet
and distribute copies to the appropriate chairpersons in your chapter. Do not discard or delete this
mailer! This document may be the last set of information sent to your chapter. Any last minute changes
will be included in your welcome packet that will be distributed upon your arrival on March 28th
.

Reminder:
Please keep in mind that representatives from all teams must be present at their respective captain’s meeting
in order to participate in the competition. The judges will answer any questions and will discuss the details of
the competition. In addition, detailed instructions for display day and race day orders will be given on March
28th in the Captain’s information packets.

2014 North Central Student Conference UPDATES
Upon arrival to UDM, please let the guards know at the entrance gate that you are with the ASCE
conference. No parking passes are necessary to park in UDM’s parking lots.
* Correction: Breakfast will not be served on race day. We apologize if this causes an inconvenience.
* Banquet Location change

* Updated Belle Isle information for Race Day:
o Park Recreation Passport information:
2-7-2014 DNR Press Release: “The Recreation Passport will not be required for island
visitors holding or attending events reserved with the city of Detroit or the DNR on or
prior to Dec. 17, 2013.” Great news!! Our event falls under this category.
o Even though a Recreational Passport is not required for our event, Belle Isle has asked us to
provide a parking certificate to participants and spectators to be placed in the vehicle’s front
window. Please print out the attached parking certificate for yourselves, your family and friends
to place in their vehicle on race day. (see page 7) We know this issue has been a bit confusing
during this transition but we really appreciated your patience.
As always, important updates will be emailed to all schools, if necessary.

If you haven’t made your hotel accommodations yet, special hotel arrangements have been made for all
participants, family and friends at:

TECHNICAL AND CONCRETE CANOE PRESENTATION INFORMATION
Chemistry Bldg - Room 114 is the location of the Technical and Concrete Canoe Presentations.
The room holds approximately 197 people.
There are three screens and a “smart” podium available in this room. A “smart” podium has a computer,
equipped with Microsoft Powerpoint, in it and is connected directly to the projector and tvs. There is
wireless internet available; however, speeds vary, so to save time we suggest that you have a hard copy
of your presentation on hand. More information will be provided at the captain’s meeting.
CONCRETE CANOE DISPLAY INFORMATION
The display portion of the conference will be held in Calihan Hall. The gymnasium has been divided to
provide space for both the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge competitions. The layout and unloading
schedules for this portion of the conference will be distributed and discussed at the Captain’s meeting on
Friday, March 28th.
