O:enworkingenpleinair,Keiko’satmosphericwatercolorcapturesperfectlyasenseofImeandplace.Throughheruseofcolor,texture,andsignaturebrushwork,Keiko’slandscapesandcityscapesbeauIfullyconveytheexoIcandthesimplescenesofthemanyplacesshetravels.NeverhavingaNendedartschool,KeikotookonedrawingclasstolearnbasictechnicalskillsbeforeshestartedpainIngin2005.Oneyearlater,a:erlearningbasicdrawingandwatercolorpainIngskillsatalocalcommunityschoolinSanDiego,shedecidedtopaintfull-Ime.

Fromthenon,KeikointenselytaughtherselftobefluentinwatercolorpainIng,justasonewoulddotomasteraforeignlanguage.Keiko’ssubjectsincludelandscape,cityscape,waterscape,andinteriorscenes,whichshewillbedemonstraInginthisworkshop.

Since2011,Keikohassuccessfullyconductedmorethan300workshopsandnumerouslivedemonstraIonsaroundtheworld.

ABOUTTHEKEIKOTANABEWORKSHOP:

ThisworkshopisdesignedforthosewhowouldliketogainabeNerunderstandingofmethodsandtechniquestomakeawatercolorpainIngthatissimpleyetstrong.Thegoalistocapturetheessenceofthesubjectthatconveysacertainmoodandatmosphere.TheprocessofsimplifyingbeginswithvisualizaIon.InrepresentaIonalart,thisabilitytoseetheendresultofapainIng,throughthemind’seye,isinstrumentalinrealizinganarIst'svision.

Throughsketchesandstep-by-stepdemonstraIons,KeikowillshowyouhowtotaketheiniIalinspiraIon,throughthesimplificaIonprocess,toanexpressivepainIngthatisstrongincomposiIonandcontent.TherewillbeanacIvequesIon-and-answersessionandcriIqueonadailybasis.SubjectmaNerincludeslandscape,cityscape,waterscape,andinteriorscenes.TheywillbedemonstratedinamannerthatismorerepresentaIonalandimpressionisIcratherthanabstract.

Thetopicstobecoveredinthisworkshopare:preliminarydrawingandcomposiIon;techniquesinpaintapplicaIonandbrushhandling;darkvslight;determiningwhatmakesagooddesign(color,shape,value,edges);planningandintuiIon;andediIngcomplexvisualinformaIon.Thematerialslistandreferencephotoswillbeprovidedpriortotheworkshop.
