ZENTANGLE

• A zentangle is a structured line design using patterns (zentangles = a planned doodle)

Zentangle Vocabulary

• Border – an outline along the outer edges of the tile, enclosing the tangle inside the frame

•Mosaic – the joining of two zentangle tiles to create a larger piece of artwork

• String – a random pencil line that serves as the guide upon which to tangle

• Tangle – the pattern created in a zentangle

• Tile – the area where one creates a zentangle

• Create 25 of your own zentangles on the blank tiles given

Drawing your animal

• Make 2 sketches of different animals & choose 1 for your final project• Lightly sketch your animal in pencil first • Focus on the outline / silhouette of the animal first

• Make sure the animals takes up most of the space, but is not cut off

• Then start to think about & draw the basic features / major sections of the animal (you’ll need 10+)• Head• Legs• Tail• Ears• Belly • Etc.

Watercolor … painting your animal

• You will need: • a watercolor pallet, brush, water dish, & newspaper

• Once you are satisfied with your basic outline / sections…• Paint the inside of the silhouette a color / color scheme

• You may paint each section of the animal differently if you wish

• Paint around the animal a different color / color scheme

• Place painting on drying rack

• Clean up painting materials• Dump water & rinse cup• Rinse brush & put back inside pallet • Throw away wet newspaper

Zentangling Your Animal

• Divide your animal into sections (10+)• You may need to break large sections into smaller ones

• In each section draw a different zentangle

• IF YOU FINISH ZENTANGLING YOUR ANIMAL EARLY:• Complete artist statement

• Make your zentangles more complex

• Draw items in the background & zentangle them too

• Color a zentagle animal coloring page

Artist Statement

• Write your name, class pd. & date

• In a continuous paragraph (5+ sentence) answer / write the following:

• What materials did you use?

• What animal did you choose & why? What other animals did you consider drawing? (think about your sketches)

• Describe your color scheme & why you chose it.

• Describe the overall look / feel of your zentangles. saWas there a theme?

• What do you feel you did well on this project?
