45RFE—General Reference Data
Trans Basic Operation:The 45RFE is a RWD 4-speed unit. Pressurerise, TCC, and shift timing for all gears is com-pletely electronically controlled.The 45RFE is actually capable of producing 5
forward speeds, with the 5th speed known as“2nd prime”. This ratio is only used during ahigh speed kickdown as the ratio is designedfor better acceleration.

The Line Pressure Sensor (transducer) is usedto convert a fluid pressure value into an electri-cal signal for use by the computer. The com-puter will control pressure by altering com-mand to the pressure solenoid and monitor theactual pressure sensed by the transducer.The transducer is mounted on the left rear ofthe unit and is also the location used to testpressure using a special adapter.
