Title: The Definition of Ethnicity about neighboring Peoples in History/2

AbstractIt can be found in European ethnic history studies that the distinction and definition of ethnic belonging is a complex issue. Besides the factor of ethnic origin, geographical position is also an important reason.

Ethnic group were always adjoined with or surrounded by alien peoples and different cultures, so that they

were effected by the neighbor for a long time, and a certain variation might be to take place, even some

transitional and mixed type ethnic-groups shaped. The controversy about the ethnic belongings for above

case should be treated tolerantly .

Abstract: There was much of warfare during the 18th

dynasty of New Kingdom in ancient Egyptian history, and

the details of the wars could not known to us if there was not inscriptions concerning to them. The

Autobiography of Amenemhab is one of the important documents for us to revive the wars, especially for the

reigning years of Thutmose III, providing us a precise time, which forms original documents hard to come by

for the study of chronology of 18th

dynasty.

Title: A Survey of European and American scholarship on Roman Roads/12

Abstract: The research on history of Roman Roads made by European and American scholars characteristically

undergoes three stages: from modern times to the 20th century, the academic community did not pay enough

attention to Roman Roads although some scholars began to be involved in its content. The history of Roman

Roads, as an important part of Roman social history, failed to obtain the due position and sufficient research;

in the first half of the 20th century, western scholars began to attach importance to the study of Roman Roads.

During this period, regional studies and case studies were conducted but the comprehensive studies were not

carried out. Therefore, in this period, studies of the Roman Roads were still in the initial stage; during the

latter half of the 20th century, regional and comprehensive studies occupied a prominent position. Meanwhile,

many works began to be concerned about the relevant social life. Academic studies on the Roman Roads

launched the further development. However, on the whole, in the study on Roman Roads, there are still many

unsatisfactory areas for further in-depth study.

Abstract: Famers Law is an important code in the history of the Byzantine Empire, which regularizes the

behaviors in production and life of Byzantine villages. Its provisions covers the organization of villages,

the occupation and utilization of the land, the rights and interests of the peasants, the punishment for illegal

activities, etcsketching the economic life of the Byzantine countryside in the Empires mid-period, it has

been regarded as an extremely precious material to study the rural economic system of Byzantium. The

abroad research on Famers Law has been for years since it was found, W. Ashburners Greek critical text

with its English version are the most authoritative which received considerable recognition by scholars. This

study, on the basis of W. Ashburners works, provides the Chinese translation and commentary .

Title: Norman Conquest and Emergence of English Identity: An Interpretation by Dint of Philology/37

Abstract: In the years surrounding the battle of Hasting of 1066, and the Norman conquest of England, the

philological sources subdivided either in England or in Normandy, and therefore maintain an affiliation to

one of the two identities. In the contemporary philological sources, William I is considered to be the personal

symbol of English identity, and England changed from toponym into ethnonym, English.

Title: The Print of Jiaxing Zang and Its Dissemination in Japan/45

Author: Zhang Hongwei, Associate Research Editor, Institute of the Imperial Palace, Palace Museum, Beijing,

Abstract: Jiaxing Zang (, The Collected Buddhist Scriptures Accomplished in Jiaxing) is a Chinese version of tripitaka started to be produced as a private project in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty.

Japanese scholar Osamu Oba () has contributed a book dealing with the grand exchanges of the Buddhist texts between China and Japan during the period from 1694 to1754. Based upon a study of Osamu

Obas result of research, this paper argues that the judgments of Osamu Oba on the importation of Buddhist

texts from China to Japan during the concerned period is rather conservative. Furthermore, this paper

confirms that this period is the peak time of the history of Sino-Japanese Buddhist cultural exchanges, and it

concludes that Jiaxing Zang has its unique historic significance in the exchanges of Buddhist texts between

China and Japan.

[Studies of Traditional Chinese Scholarship]

Title: A Study of Luo Mi's Pedigree and His Book Lushi/59

Author: Zhu Xianlin, Ph.D. Candidate, Scholl of Literature, Northeast Normal University, Changchun 130024,

China.

Abstract: The Pedigree of Luo Mi () has attracted little research attention and many questions remain unanswered. This paper conducts a rather comprehensive investigation to Luo Mis family background. It is

found that Luo Mi received very sound academic education from his family which contributed significantly

to his later writing of Lushi (, Grand History). The version of Lushi that exists today was actually assembled by the later scholars based upon Luo Mis works. Luo Mi made great efforts to write Lushi, while

his son Luo Ping() was a key assistant to him in completion of the annotation to Lushi. Taken all the disputes about Lushi in consideration, it is clear that this book and its annotation preserved rich materials for

later scholars studies in Chinese literature, history, and mythology.

Title: A Study of the No.F116: W98 Unearthed Yuan Document from Khara-Khoto/70

Author: Su Li, Lecturer, School of History and Culture, Northeast Normal University, Jilin, 130024, China.

Abstract: This paper studies the context of the No. F 116: W98 unearthed document dated to the Yuan Dynasty

from Khara-khoto. It points out that this document is actually a lawsuit petition paper of the Yuan Dynasty.

Both sides involved were Tuntian soldiers, meaning soldiers who had both military and agricultural duties of

that times. Furthermore, this study discusses the concrete paper formulation and procedure to conduct such

kind of lawsuit petition during the Yuan period.
