Pastor’s Message – Thanksgiving 2017

Dear Friends in Christ,

I hope that your family will be to take a moment at Thanksgiving to reflect upon what you

are especially grateful for in your lives. As your Pastor, I am thankful for your commitment to discipleship which includes your presence, prayers and support of our St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church family. During this past year, we have continued to journey

together with great hope. I appreciate your dedication to the parish, which to journey together with great hope. I appreciate your dedication to the parish, which helps to make ours a very special place to know, love and serve God by loving and serving others.

This weekend, we will enjoy the company of family, our closest friends, and the numerous gifts that are so often forgotten or ignored such as our apartments, food, clothing, heat, and good health. Sadly, many other cannot or will not enjoy the same: the hungry, the homeless, the members of our armed forces, and the victims of hurricanes throughout the Caribbean and the South. Let us make room for them in our hearts and in our prayers. Let us join together as I – in a short time – will call for donations of coats, gloves, hats,

and food for the needy. There will be a giving tree in both the upper and lower churches.

Let us begin a new liturgical year with the celebration of the First Sunday of Advent. Let us go out and welcome Him, the Lord, the King of Glory and the Prince of Peace. Let us go out with open hearts and find Him among the poor, the lonely, the ill, and the elderly alike.

Let us go out and find our Joy and Peace. Where will we find Joy and Peace?

Reflect upon this question in your private prayer time. Joy and Peace are much deeper emotions than happiness and contentment. They are gifts from God, the Father Almighty,

that come to us in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I pray the He may enter into your hearts and souls this Advent Season, throughout Christmas and into the New Year. I invite you to participate in the activities and prayer opportunities that will be listed in the church bulletin and separate flyers. I pray that they will lead you closer to our Lord during

this holy season of Expectation. I look forward to sharing this special time with you.

Each week, I stand before you and ask for prayers for myself as well as the Priests and Religious Sisters who serve our parish. Your prayers for us provide encouragement and strength and also bind us together as a family of faith. Know that we are praying for you, your loved ones and your intentions. As we seek the presence of God in a renewed manner this Advent, may we rediscover Joy and Peace by reflecting upon our call to be witnesses

and disciples to the beauty of our Catholic faith and Church!

Queridos amigos en Cristo,

Espero que su familia se tome un momento en Acción de Gracias para reflexionar sobre lo que usted está especialmente agradecido en sus vidas. Como su pastor, estoy agradecido por su

compromiso con el discipulado, que incluye su presencia, oraciones y apoyo a nuestra familia de la Iglesia Católica San Juan Crisóstomo. Durante el año pasado, continuamos viajando juntos con gran esperanza. Aprecio tu dedicación a la parroquia, en viajar juntos con gran esperanza. Agradezco su dedicación a la parroquia, lo que ayuda en hacer nuestro un lugar muy especial para conocer, amar y servir a Dios amando y sirviendo a los demás.

Este fin de semana, disfrutaremos de la compañía de la familia, nuestros amigos más cercanos y

los numerosos obsequios que a menudo se olvidan o se ignoran, como nuestros apartamentos, comida, ropa, calefacción y buena salud. Tristemente, muchos otros no pueden o no disfrutarán de lo mismo: los hambrientos, los desamparados, los miembros de nuestras fuerzas armadas y las víctimas de huracanes en todo el Caribe y el Sur. Hagamos espacio para ellos en nuestros corazones y en nuestras oraciones. Vamos a unirnos ya que, en poco tiempo, solicitaré donaciones de abrigos, guantes, sombreros y alimentos para los necesitados. Habrá un árbol para donaciones en las iglesias de arriba y abajo

Comencemos un nuevo año litúrgico con la celebración del Primer Domingo de Adviento. Salgamos y démosle la bienvenida a Él, el Señor, el Rey de la Gloria y el Príncipe de la Paz. Salgamos con los corazones abiertos y lo encontremos entre los pobres, los solitarios, los enfermos y los ancianos por igual. Vamos a salir y encontrar nuestra Alegría y Paz. ¿Dónde encontraremos Alegría y Paz?

Reflexione sobre esta pregunta en su tiempo privado de oración. La alegría y la paz son emociones mucho más profundas que la felicidad y la satisfacción. Son regalos de Dios, el Padre

Todopoderoso, que vienen a nosotros en una relación personal con Jesucristo. Oro para que Él pueda entrar en sus corazones y almas esta temporada de Adviento, a lo largo de la Navidad y en el Año Nuevo. Los invito a participar en las actividades y oportunidades de oración que se enumerarán en el boletín de la iglesia y volantes separados. Oro para que te guíen más cerca de nuestro Señor durante este tiempo sagrado de Expectativas. Espero compartir este momento especial contigo.

Cada semana, me presento ante ustedes y pido oraciones para mí, así como para los sacerdotes y

religiosas que sirven en nuestra parroquia. Sus oraciones por nosotros brindan aliento y fortaleza y también nos unen como una familia de fe. Sepa que estamos orando por usted, sus seres queridos y sus intenciones. Mientras buscamos la presencia de Dios de una manera renovada en este Adviento, ¡podemos redescubrir Alegría y Paz al reflexionar sobre nuestro llamado a ser testigos y discípulos de la belleza de nuestra fe y Iglesia Católica!

XAVIER SOCIETY FOR THE BLIND

Xavier Society for the Blind was founded in 1900 to assist blind and visually impaired people learn about, develop, and practice their faith. We continue to provide free of charge, religious reading materials primarily in the Catholic tradition in braille and audio. In 2016 we served over 1,700 active clients. As part of the mission they are committed

to making these types of materials more accessible and available to the widest possible audience of those in need.

With an existing catalog of over 1,400 braille and audio titles, Xavier Society for the Blind provides inspirational, spiritual and religious reading materials in braille, audio and/or large print

to the blind and visually impaired community of faithful free of charge, including: • Monthly readings, prayers and responses for the Sunday Mass and selected Feast Days

and Solemnities. • Faith formation textbooks for children and adults. • Many popular titles related to the Catholic Church, religion, and spiritual themes.
