Abstract Due to the widespread of airborne Coronavirus (the COVID-1 9 pandemic), the

social distancing measure has been enforced worldwide. This situation affects the whole social system in Thailand, especially the educational institutes since they were closed temporarily by the government’s order. Online education has been employed during this time to avoid interruption of classes as well as to prevent physical contact. However, teaching through the online platform can be inconvenient especially for art-related subjects, which contain both theoretical and practical lessons. Even though theoretical lessons can be delivered smoothly through an online platform, teaching practical lessons online is extremely challenging due to various limitations such as lack of art supplies and appropriate workspace.

The research about online art education had been conducted with an attempt to improve the online art education of Chulalongkorn University. The data were gathered through interviewing 7 professors and 14 students who experienced online art education in the second semester of 2019. The researchers have found that learning through an application that involves bidirectional communication and sharing class materials to students online allows teachers to manage the class with flexibility in terms of time, contents, assignments, and evaluation. Whereas students are demanded to self-study, complete assignments on time, and actively seek for professor’s advice and critics. In conclusion, to improve online art education, the instructors should prioritize students’ learning experiences by planning the syllabus carefully regarding all possible issues and familiarizing their selves with the application platform for teaching online. In addition, the syllabus and courses’ evaluation should be actively adjusted in response to constantly changing situations. Lastly, making appealing materials and improving online communication skills can also contribute to better online art education.
