What is Directing ?• Directing is a process of instructing , guiding ,

counseling , motivating , and leading the human resources to achieve organizational objectives.

• Importance of Directing -1. It initiates action2. It integrates employee effort3. It is a means of Motivation4. It creates balance in the organization



What is Motivation ?

• A process that accounts for degree of readiness of an individual to achieve a desired goal.

• Various theories of motivation –1. Maslow’s need hierarchy theory2. Herzberg’s motivation hygiene theory3. McClelland’s need theory4. Mc’Gregor Theory “X” & Theory “Y”


How TATA Motors motivates their employees ?

• Providing 5 types of leave Facilities i.e.;1. Casual leave of 14 days2. Sick leave of 7 days3. Privilege leave of 24 days per year4. Maternity leave of 12 weeks5. Study leave


• Provident fund & pension - 1. Tata motors operates Provident fund Scheme

in which company contributes 8.33 % of employees’ wages/salaries.

2. Pension scheme is available to all permanent employees drawing a basic salary of Rs. 4200 or above per month.

3. Monthly pension is paid to a retired employee until the date of his death.


• Medical Facilities –1. Provision of free medical and hospitalization

facilities to all its employees.2. Has its own 206 bed hospital equipped with

modern equipments & facilities.3. Two dispensaries , a medical clinic , a baby

clinic and crèche for its employees.


• Township Development –1. Established a township at Jamshedpur plant spread

in 950 acres of land with 6,000 houses2. Township has clubs, schools, markets, a stadium ,

hospital, dispensaries and many other facilities.• Educational Facilities- Organizes literacy programmes for employees and

their family members on regular basis.• Sports – Built up stadium with modern facilities.
