A part of this business is dedicated to
Murex and other trading platforms,
nd thus Accenture maintains close
elationships with leading trading
latform vendors and has developed
many custom solution accelerators
round these vendor’s products. These
nclude frameworks, such as testing
rameworks, and tools, such as estima-
on tools, that help to reduce efforts
nd increase the quality of our tradingrojects. Those relationships and solu-
on accelerators are essential elements
f Accenture Trading Services.
Accenture and Murex
Murex is a leading provider of an
ntegrated trading, risk management
nd settlement solution for the capital
markets industry. The software features
unique coverage of asset classes and
andles all facets of cash and deriva-
ves trading for foreign exchange,
money market, energy and commodi-
es, equities, credit, interest rates and
xed income. Today, Murex has over
2,000 users among the world’s lead-
ng financial institutions worldwide
nd has 9 offices in all major markets
nd time zones.
n 1994, Accenture delivered its first
Murex implementation project suc-
essfully to a client. Since then,Accenture and Murex formed a
elationship that—over time—gener-
ted a large international Accenture
ommunity of subject matter experts
with deep Murex experience around
he globe. Our teams have worked
n successful Murex implementation,
migration and application manage-
ment projects for nearly 15 years and
ave experience with all generations of
Murex solutions, particularly those still
n production, Mx Generation 2000
nd MX.3 (including MX Risk Manager,
heir enterprise-wide risk manage-
ment solution). In the past, Murex and
Accenture have even teamed up to
create joint proposals for specific client
projects and challenges.
Since 2002, Accenture and Murex
have operated a joint training program
in Murex’s central office in Paris. As
part of this program, Accenture employ-
ees work in Murex support teams over
several months and gain hands-on
experience with various Murex applica-
tions by supporting actual customers ofthe software.
Accenture and Murex recently signed
a global relationship agreement that
positions Accenture as the first Global
Alliance Partner of Murex. It also
provides Accenture with a number
of unique possibilities to further
support its capital markets clients,
laying the basis to significantly
extend the development of solution
accelerators and market Accenture
owned tools around Murex (e.g.
testing automation). Furthermore,
Accenture is entitled to deliver
services—1st level support, release
and configuration management
services—for its clients from various
locations around the world, including
off-shore locations without requiring
any additional agreements.
Relevant Accenture Murex ExperienceScope of Services
Accenture provides consulting, system
integration and application mainte-
nance services around Murex software
solutions. Consulting services include
strategic assessments, process con-
sulting and trading and settlement
architecture design as well as design
of global trading operating models.
Our system integration services span
software implementation (cross-asset
class, front, middle, back office, multi-
site) and related design/build/rollout
and aftercare work. Our application
maintenance services include onsite
and offshore application management
and support, testing services and
standard release upgrades. In addition,
Accenture and Murex jointly developed
a combined upgrade approach to MX.3.
Solution Accelerators and
Dedicated Offerings
Based on our deep experience, and from
working on numerous implementation
projects, Accenture has developed a
robust set of tools and specific offeringsaround Murex applications, including
upgrade projects to MX.3 and applica-
tion management for Murex solutions.
Our estimation tool quickly estimates
the amount of work needed for a spe-
cific Murex implementation project. It
also delivers a work plan and can help
optimize the scope of a specific project
with predefined Murex tasks. Another
estimation tool has been developed for
application outsourcing projects cover-
ing maintenance and enhancement
tasks. Based on a specific client chal-
lenge, this tool provides an estimate
for the required team size and the skill
pyramid needed.
To help our clients upgrade to the latest
Murex platform MX.3, we developed
a specific set of tools complementary
to Murex tools which help ensure a
smooth transition. These tools encom-pass a pre-configuration and testing
approach, interface development and
configuration management. Benefits
for our clients from those tools and
offerings include lower implementation
risk, reduced costs and a higher qual-
ity (lower regression, reduced testing
efforts, and other advantages).
Accenture has developed an industri-
alized approach to support applica-
tion management for Murex software.
By combining an on-site team with
dedicated resources in our Capital
Markets Center of Excellence
(see below), we are able to provide our
clients with a competitive approach
to cover user and operating support,
bug fixing, application management,
and quality measurement through pre-
agreed service level agreements.
Recently, Accenture has adapted
its estimation model to integrate
MXpress™, Murex’s latest release
of pre-configured solutions and deploy-
ment tools based on market best prac-
tices, thus delivering to clients an even
faster implementation.
Capital Markets Center of Excellence/
Capital Markets Delivery Centers
Accenture maintains a Capital Markets
Center of Excellence that provides
training, research and comprehensivedevelopment facilities for front-to-back
trading architectures and data manage-
ment systems. This dedicated network
of trading experts (in Paris, Madrid, New
York, Mumbai and Shanghai) helps to
maximize the synergies in implementa-
tion and maintenance projects around
the world.
In addition to the 50 global facilities
staffed by 75,000-plus professionals
that comprise the Accenture Global
Delivery Network, our firm operates
delivery centers dedicated to the capi-
tal markets industry in Spain (Madrid),
India (Mumbai) and China (Shanghai).
Our Center of Excellence is linked seam-
lessly with our local capital markets
practices in different countries and
our dedicated capital markets delivery
centers in Spain, India and China. For
example, the Madrid location of ourCenter is the home of a dedicated pool
of resources to deliver application man-
agement for Murex Software.
This unique combination of skilled
resources, solution accelerators
and deep industry knowledge helps
Accenture achieve superior results for
our clients as we implement, develop
and maintain their Murex software.
Selected Client Experience
around Murex
Accenture has intensive experience
with Murex software covering a broad
range of asset classes (FX and money
markets, fixed income, derivatives and
commodities) as well as all functional
domains ranging from sales/distribution
to front-, middle- and back-office, and
collateral management. In Europe alone,
Accenture has helped more than 40
banks with their Murex implementation
projects over the last 10 years.
In addition to our consulting and
system integration projects around
Murex, Accenture provides applica-
tion maintenance services around dif-
ferent Murex software versions cover-
ing different asset classes for clients
in Germany, Spain and Italy. Details
of our dedicated client experience are
available upon request. For reference,
we have attached an example of one
recent Murex project.
Sal. Oppenheim: Application
Management for Murex
With a current staff of 3,800 employ-
ees, Sal. Oppenheim is Europe’s lead-
ing independent private bank.
Before collaborating with Accenture,
Sal. Oppenheim’s Murex trading
application was maintained by bank
employees and freelancers. Since the
maintenance workload varies greatly
during the year, Sal. Oppenheim
sought a solution that would allow
the support team to scale up and
down with demand, while reducing
costs and improving cost predictabil-
ity. By co-sourcing its Murex applica-
tion management, the bank hoped
to achieve cost reductions, improve
time-to-market for new products,
extend flexibility to meet demand
peeks and increase the quality of ser-
vices and development.
Accenture was selected for this project
because of its in-depth Murex applica-
tion expertise, capital markets industry
know-how and its application out-
sourcing and delivery experience.
Accenture’s service model includes an
on-site team in Frankfurt, Germany
and a near-site team in Accenture’s
Capital Markets Center of Excellence
in Madrid, Spain, and provides deep
expertise in Murex, flexible staffing,
a multi-site infrastructure, a strong
background in application outsourc-
ing service delivery as well as a com-
petitive and predictable pricing model.
Accenture’s role includes Murex
enhancements and small developments
performed by the near-site team
and maintenance, small develop-
ments and service management
done by a joint on-site team.
All of this has led to higher quality
deliverables, reduced time-to-marketwith new investment products
and profound decisions on strategic
changes to the application (i.e. market
data infrastructure, interface design,
reporting methodology). Specific
results have included a demand
management process that supports
flexible scaling of up to +/-30%
of the current team size.
Within Accenture Trading Services, Accenture helps capital markets firms transform theirfront, middle, and back-office operations and risk management departments into inte-grated trading architectures to properly and efficiently address the increasing complexityand risk exposure resulting from cross-asset class and derivatives trading.
“Throughout our 15 years of working with Accenture, we have builta very special relationship based on mutual trust. Our recently
signed Global Relationship Agreement positions Accenture as our
first Global Alliance Partner, offering a full set of services to our
joint customers around the world covering strategic consulting, sys-
tem integration and maintenance services. This agreement allows
Accenture to deliver maintenance services from offshore locations
and is a true proof point for this unique partnership.”
