وجها لوجه، والإ�سادة بدورها يف التنمية القت�سادية يف اململكة �سفحة )4(.كذلك يحوي العدد على لقاء مع اإحدى املهند�سات يف امل�سهروالتي تبني مدى قدرة املراأة البحرينية على

اإجناز ما يوكل اإليها من مهام جنبا اإىل جنب مع الرجل �سفحة )18(.اأن تنال اإعجابكم، كما ي�سعدنا ا�ستقبال هذا ويحتوي العدد اجلديد على موا�سيع اأخرى خمتلفة، نتمنى

Welcome to the new issue of Albayan

Tuesday, 10 March 2009 was a historic day in Alba's history. On that day, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of HM the King, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of Women and the Honorary Chairwoman of Bahrain International Garden Show Organizing Committee visited Alba for the first time, and was accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate and President of the General Directorate for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment, and Wildlife, and His Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Minsiter of Finance. The honourable guests were received by the Chairman of the Alba Board of Directors Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji and the Chief Executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi (page 4).This issue of Albayan mainly highlights this remarkable event that gave number of employees the opportunity to meet Her Highness and receive praise for their role in the Kingdom’s economic development (page 4 ).The issue has a special interview with one of the female engineers at the smelter, which proves the capability of Bahraini women to work along side men and accomplish any task (page 18).It also includes a number of other stories that I am sure you will enjoy reading in this issue. We are also happy to receive your comments and suggestions for the new issues.

Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women and Honorary Chairwoman of the Bahrain International Garden Club Organising Committee,

inaugurated the newly named Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka Oasis during her visit to Alba on Tuesday, 10 March 2009. Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka was received by the Governor of the Southern Governorate and Chairman of the General Directorate for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife, His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Minister of Finance, Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairmanof the Alba Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, and other high officials from the company.In his welcome address, Mr Al Kooheji remarked that this visit was the first of its kind in the history of Alba and that it was indeed an occasion of great pride and celebration.He stressed Alba's belief on the importance of the environment and its impact on individuals and the society as a whole while highlighting the company's role in enhancing environmental awareness through different activities such as, photography competition and drawing contests.He further referred to the continuous support of Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka to the environment and in spreading greenery around the Kingdom. He also announced - at the end of his speech - that the Oasis would be named after Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka, in thanks and appreciation of her support for spearheading the environmental message in Bahrain. Later during the visit, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka delivered a speech, in which she valued Alba's efforts in spreading greenery and caring for the environment.

She stressed on the importance of implementing successful gardening projects around the Kingdom and retaining the original trees of Bahrain.She instructed all concerned bodies to stop planting the Canacarpus for its negative impact on the environment - according to an environmental study conducted recently by Arabian Gulf University - and called for planting more Bahraini trees.She praised Alba's commitment to improving and protecting the environment and for the backing it has given to a project of such magnitude. She also called for all public and private sector organisations to enhance environmental awareness, increase greenery, develop new methods for irrigation, plant different kinds of trees and benefit from other countries' experience in this regard.She visited the Oasis photo exhibition that showcased the main trees and flowers that one can see in the garden. Mr Al Kooheji presented a gift to Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka and later the Alba Chief Executive, Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, presented another gift to His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa to mark this momentous event.Later, she unveiled the plaque that was made to mark the occasion, and a group photo was taken with company officials and members of the Bahrain Garden Show Committee.She also went on a tour of the Oasis and was accompanied by the Superintendent Environment and Industrial Hygiene, Sonya Ghareeb, The Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka Oasis was established in 2005, and is considered one of the premier environmental projects that have been set up to increase greenery. Located on the south side of the smelter and covering a total of 9,000 square meters, the Oasis is divided into three parts: the water area with numerous marine life, the Oasis area with different kinds of plants and trees, including palm trees, cactus, and other local kinds of trees, and the Alba garden, which includes numerous varieties of local fruits and vegetables.The visit came amid preparations for the Sixth Bahrain International Garden Show that Alba has co-sponsored. Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka is the patron and honorary president of the organising committee of this three-day event that opens on 17th April. The objective of this event is to protect the environment, utilise appropriate areas for planting trees, and work towards developing a cleaner and more pollution-free environment. Over the years, the event has gained in stature and scope and succeeded in becoming one of the most specialised exhibitions in the entire GCC region.

الفرد يف التمتع ببيئة نظيفة خالية من التلوث.اجلدير بالذكر اأن �رشكة اأملنيوم البحرين )البا( تاأ�س�ست عام 1968 وتعترب اهتماما ال�رشكة وتويل البحرين مملكة يف الوطني القت�ساد روافد اأحد ال�رشكة على عدة جوائز يف هذا املجال البيئة وقد ح�سلت بالغا بقطاع اأهمها جائزة الألفية ال�سناعية لإجنازات البيئة الدولية من الأمانة العامة لالأمم املتحدة وجائزة دول جمل�س التعاون اخلليجي لأف�سل �رشكة تلتزم

باملعايري البيئية وجائزة جمل�س التعاون لأف�سل برنامج بيئي توعوي. كما ت�سارك ال�رشكة فى معر�س البحرين الدويل للحدائق الذي يقام �سنويا حتت رعاية كرمية من �ساحبة ال�سمو ال�سيخة �سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة، وقد مت اإن�ساء واحة األبا يف عام 2005 وتعترب من م�ساريع حماية البيئة وزيادة الرقعة اخل�رشاء يف ال�رشكة، وتقع يف املنطقة اجلنوبية للم�سنع على اأق�سام: املنطقة البحرية اإىل ثالثة م�ساحة 9000 مرت مربع وهي مق�سمة اإن�ساوؤها لال�ستفادة من ال�رشقية ومت الواحة من املنطقة وتقع يف مدخل املياه الناجتة عن عملية تربيد قوالب الأملنيوم من �سخها اإىل البحرية ومن اأما الزراعية، الأغرا�س لال�ستخدام فى الواحة باقي اإىل ثانية ثم �سخها منطقة الواحة فتعترب امتدادا للون الأخ�رش املنب�سط على اأر�س األبا وحتيط بها النخيل واأ�سجار ال�سبار والكنار والعديد من اأ�سجار الظل، واأخريا حديقة

خ�رشاوات األبا التى حتوي العديد من اخل�رشاوات والفواكه البحرينية.

The Alba Board of Directors examined steps taken by the company in the first quarter of 2009 to reduce costs and mitigate the adverse impact of the current economic crisis on Alba's overall operations and employees. The Board, at its quarterly meeting held on Wednesday, 25 March 2009, also reviewed the executive report on the new financial plan as well as the reports by the human resources and auditing committees, production and safety records and environment protection programmes.They hailed the success of the first ever visit of Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women to the Alba smelter and in inaugurating the newly named Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka Oasis.Chairman of Alba's Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji remarked that Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka praised the pivotal role Alba plays in protecting the environment and also appreciated the prominent role of women in the company's operations. During the meeting, the Board further discussed the price fluctuation of aluminium in the international markets, how to deal with the changes in the coming months, reviewed the local and regional market demands as well as Alba's financial and marketing situation.They also reviewed the financial, economic and

technical reports related to the different operations at the company."The Board reviewed the ongoing progress of the plant operations development and cost reduction project, and also, reviewed remarks made by the Board Committee. "Their role is to supervise the study presently being conducted in preparion for the coming phase and ensure that it remains closely aligned with the Kingdom's new economic vision for 2030 that is launched by His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa under the supervision of the Economic Development Board (EDB)," said Mr. Al Kooheji. Abdulaziz S. Al-Humaid was welcomed as a new member of Alba's Board of Directors and Mr. Al Kooheji said that the Board will greatly benefit from his experience and insight. Representing the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, in addition to the Chairman Mr. Al Kooheji, were Yusuf Abdulla Taqi, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo, Osama M. Al Arrayedh and David Meen, while representing SABIC Investments Company were Mutlaq H. Al Murished, Ibrahim S. Al Showeir and Humood Abdulla Al Towaijri and representing Breton Investments was Gert Rohrseitz. The meeting was also attended by the Alba Chief Executive Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, Alba Deputy Chief Executive Mahmood Al Daylami, and other high officials from the company.

الإدارة عقب اجتماع جمل�س اإدارة ال�رشكة الذي عقد مبقر ال�رشكة.حيث اأ�سار رئي�س جمل�س الإدارة يف حديثه اإىل زيارة �ساحبة ال�سمو ال�سيخة �سبيكة بنت اإبراهيم اآل خليفة لل�رشكة قائال: يتزامن اجتماع بها تف�سلت التي امليمونة الزيارة من قلية اأيام بعد الإدارة جمل�س �ساحبة ال�سمو قرينة جاللة امللك اإىل ال�رشكة، ولقائها برئي�س واأع�ساء واإ�سادتها ال�رشكة، يف وامل�سئولني التنفيذية والهيئة الإدارة جمل�س

Being an active member of the society through its voluntary work, the company carries out this task on a monthly basis. Alba employees' voluntary work is inspired by their personal belief in what they do, without expecting any reward in return. They have the support of the executive management to increase voluntary work among employees by 52%, enhance positive thinking by 40% and improve living standards by 8%."Karima Al Hamad, a member of the Community Service Committee, gave a presentation highlighting the most important activities conducted by the Committee in 2008 and the most evident results that the Committee experienced on different levels.At the end of the ceremony, Her Excellency Dr. Al Balooshi, Mr. Al Kooheji, Mr. Al Noaimi, Shaikh Duaij Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Handicapped Sports Federation and Chairman of the committee, honoured the volunteers. Alba second smelter wins FM Global Award in the international risk management award

Risk Management engineer at the Factory Mutual Insurance Company (FM Global), Ian Pathania, hailed Alba's latest achievement upon winning the FM Global Award after having met their standards of protection from risks. The award recognises Alba's outstanding new world record over the past four years in terms of risk management, which makes it the second plant in the world to have received this award."This is the second time in 15 years that this award is presented to an insured industry," said Pathania. "The Alba Calciner team made huge efforts to have this achievement in a record time, which proves the ability of Alba management and employees to handle risks as per modern standards of international insurance documents.""Once again, Alba proves to the world that it is one of the most outstanding smelters in terms of production and achievements one after the other, as well as insurance and risk management, which enabled it to achieve international levels of protection against risks," said the Alba Carbon and Calciner General Manager, Hameed Abbas. There are more than 80 women working in different departments and various positions at Alba, and they have each proved their ability to work hand in hand with men. Women at Alba play a vital role whether in

the office or at the plant, and they are committed to take part in social activities and voluntary work.

The Engineer Banefsha Ebrahim, one of the female employees at Alba, joined the company few years ago in the engineering department.

Following her graduation from secondary school – science with distinction, she wanted to study in specialise in science. Therefore, she applied for medicine and engineering colleges and was accepted in both colleges. However, when she was granted a scholarship from the Ministry of Education, she chose civil engineering. She acquired associate diploma in engineering, followed by BSc in civil engineering in 1999. She worked in a number of private companies before joining Alba in 2001.“When I joined Alba, Eng. Huma Aseeri was working in Project department. I did not have the opportunity to work with her, but her participation in building Line 5 as a project manager has proved that there is no difference between a man and a woman in the working

environment, and this is what I have found for myself over the past few years at Alba,” she said.

The woman dedicates her time and effort to work, and she is capable of reaching the required objectives, with the support of

the executive management members.It is worth noting that Eng. Banefsha is a volunteer in Injaz

Bahrain, a member of Bahrain Society of Engineers, a volunteer of Alba Community Service Committee, as

well as an active participant in the summer courses organised by Bahrain Young Ladies Association

when she was in secondary school.

Alba Laboratory records the highest quality performance in the world

Out of 31 other smelters in the world, the Alba Laboratory achieved the highest quality performance among the world's calcined coke producers and consumers in terms of the quality of its analysis, which comes as part of the quality management program organised by the World Swiss R&D Carbon Laboratory.Alba's new achievement is a result of its commitment to international standards and regulations for quality management of calcined coke. Alba has its own calciner plant that meets the smelter's requirements and exports to other aluminium producers in the world. The fact that some of these producers were also competing in this programme actually enhances Alba's international reputation in maintaining the highest quality standards and applying international standards and specifications in its analysis."Acquiring this top rank among the world's aluminium producers proves the high quality of Alba products and their high demand in the international market," said Avinash Mittal, the Alba Laboratory Manager. "It also proves that Alba's lab contributes to improving the quality of our products, which goes in line with the regulations of international quality

certificate ISO 9002 that was accredited to Alba a few years ago."Furthermore, Laboratory Superintendent, Dr. Loai Abdul Amir Al Jamri said, "Alba lab employees have the practical experience, supported by academic knowledge, in analysing the raw materials used in aluminium smelting process, including calcined coke, which requires high level of accuracy in order to determine high quality products and - consequently - determine the aluminium price in the market. Alba awards supporters of local communityHer Excellency the Minister of Social Development Dr. Fatima bint Mohammed Al Baluchi, and Chairman of the Alba Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, presented Alba's financial awards to societies that support local community organisations during a special ceremony held for this occasion. Alba power stations environment friendly

The Alba Power General Manager, Mahmood Asghar, announced that Alba has completed converting its power stations to become environmentally friendly, by retrofitting its gas turbines with new low Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) burners to reduce the produced NOx emissions to less than the required international standards with the cost of more than $ 66 million over the past years."This project is one of the largest of its kind in Asia and the Middle East, following its implementation by a German company," said Mr. Asghar. "Alba had the initiative of implementing this project as part of its long term commitment towards the environment," he said."This project was implemented in many phases over the past few months thanks to the efforts of Alba's engineers and technicians who worked on this project, with the cooperation of Alstom," he added.The engineers and technicians of Alba have proved their expertise in handling power stations, and they are certainly capable protecting the environment by reducing the emissions through programs of high quality and reduced costs, which complies with Alba's policy of maintaining a healthier and safer environment for its employees.

Alba announced that two of its employees were promoted to managerial positions in Power Maintenance and Casthouse Maintenance departments, following their completion of an organisational development program that was implemented two years ago. This program allows employees to acquire necessary training according to a special academic and vocational programme.Adel Abbas Faraj, who joined the company in 1988, was promoted to Manager Casthouse Maintenance. He acquired High National Diploma (HND) in Mechatronic from University Abertay Dundee in Scotland and attended numerous training courses in Bahrain and abroad. He later moved up in management and supervisory jobs until he reached his current position.Ameen Mohammed Sultan was also promoted as Manager Power Maintenance. He joined the company in 1997, and received his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bahrain. Mr. Sultan has been Acting Manager since 2006, and was promoted through an organisational development program, which he successfully completed last month.On this occasion, Alba Chief Executive, Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi, congratulated the newly appointed managers, emphasising that Alba is proud to have such national competencies that deserve to take leadership and responsibility through Alba's organisational development program, of which many employees have benefited in different departments of the company.

املنا�سب الإ�رشافية والإدارية حتى و�سل هذا املن�سب.كذلك متت ترقية اأمني حممد �سلطان اإىل من�سب مدير �سيانة دائرة الطاقة، وقد التحق �سلطان بالعمل يف ال�رشكة عام 1997 وهو حا�سل على درجة املاج�ستري يف الهند�سة الكهربائية من جامعة البحرين، وكان مديرا بالوكالة منذ مطلع العام 2006 وخ�سع لربنامج التطوير الإداري الذي

Alba’s Public Relations Manager Dr. Khalid Jassim Bomtaia, took part in an international conference in Beirut that was held under the patronage of Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Sanyoura. The conference, which was entitled "Role of the Private Sector in Development: Assessment and Prospects," had wide regional and global representation. Dr. Bomtaia represented Bahrain's experiment in the Private Social Labour Fund.In his working paper, Dr. Bomtaia summed up Bahrain's experiment and highlighted a number of issues which won praise, recognition and appreciation due to the efforts made by the Ministry of Social Development by relying on programmes as part of its services to the private sector and activating the "institutionalisation of the social partnership between the public sector and the public sector."The Public Relations Manager said the Private Social Labour Fund was established by an order of the Minister of Social Development in 2006, and that it provides financial assistance to non-governmental organisations in accordance with the principles and standards laid down by the Executive Committee. The Fund also seeks to assist private societies and organisations in realising their objectives to serve all the classes of the society.The Fund's terms of reference are devising the Fund's overall policy, following up the Fund's policies, suggesting the basis and standards necessary to determine the private societies and organisations entitled to the Fund's support, conditions of entitlement and the amount of the financial support. It also prepares the annual report on the Fund's achievements and the report on of the revenues and expenses, in addition to the Fund's administrative and financial bye-laws, as well as any other functions which the Minister of Social Development decides to be discussed, examined and reported.Dr. Bomtaia also reviewed the composition of the Fund's Executive Committee, saying that the Fund has an executive committee formed in pursuance of an order by the Minister of Social Development, chaired by the Assistant Undersecretary for Community Development, and includes representatives of many parties, namely the Ministry of Social Development, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, in addition to

three members selected by the Ministry of Social Development from among nominees for national banks, as well as three members selected by the Ministry of Social Development from among nominees of national companies.The Private Social Labour Fund's objectives include encouraging private organisations to promote private work by providing the necessary financial resources to its unique projects, modernizing methods of providing assistance and grants to the private organizations and moving them to new horizons by obtaining an unlimited financing for their projects and programmes. This depends entirely on the nature of the ideas submitted by civic society organizations, the nature of the services they render and the need by Bahrain's community for them. Its objectives also include promoting competition among private organisations and enhancing the principles of transparency in providing government support and translating this support and assistance into services and programmes which are economically and socially viable to the society.During the international conference, Dr. Bomtaia reviewed another aspect, namely how to manage the fund, saying: The Private Organizations Directorate of the Ministry of Social Development provides assistance to the Fund's Secretary in all the tasks assigned to him and which are needed to ensure smooth running of the Fund. The Fund's revenues consist of the financial allocations set aside to the Fund by the State as well as the contributions, grants and subsidies which the Minister of Social Development accepts. The fund also provides financial grants which are not pre-determined, to Bahraini private organizations which undertake unique development projects in their fields of work.Regarding supervision of the grant, the National Centre for the Support of Non-Government Organizations oversees the procedures of submitting applications to the financial grants, such as the evaluation by two bodies, one carrying out institutional assessment of the organization by the national Centre for the Support of Non-Government Organizations, and the second assessing the project by an independent specialist body selected by the Ministry (University of Bahrain).

Alba volunteers spreadsafety message in KingdomAluminium Bahrain (Alba) demonstrated its social commitment with the launch of a key component of its health and safety awareness campaign at the Al Fateh shoreline near Marina Club in Manama.More than 60 volunteers – comprising Alba employees and their families – came in full force to spread the message of safety and healthy living and received an encouraging response from members of the general public.“Alba has a keen sense of corporate social responsibility that underlines many of our community service initiatives. This campaign, in particular, was a major success as we were able to share with the people of Bahrain some of the fundamentals of safety issues that lead to a safe and healthy lifestyle.” There were live demos of first aid and fire fighting exercises as well as presentation on safety and fire prevention measures at home. Alba staff to benefit from year-long technical training programIncreased technical expertise, improved performance and enhanced skills were some of the key objectives outlined at a year-long Process and Technology Training Program for operation and maintenance staff at Alba's Carbon, Reduction and Casthouse. The two-level course, which is being held at Alba's TCS Hall, was launched on Tuesday, 24 February 2009 and is being conducted by Light Metal Research Centre (LMRC), University of Auckland, New Zealand. Over 150 Alba employees will be taking part in this course, which will cover both theoretical and practical aspects related to smelter operation and will include specific case studies as well. "Our staff will always remain one of our key assets and we are committed to providing them with technical training that will enhance their skills and, in turn, strengthen the competitiveness of our overall operations," said Wajd Salah Al Madani, Alba's General Manager (Administration).He further thanked Alba's managers and other professionals who were closely involved in preparing the course structure, material and relevant case studies.The LMRC faculty conducting the course include Professor Mark Taylor, Dr Mark Dorreen, John Grandfield, Dr Barry Sadler and Professor John Chen.The duration of the course will be from February to October 2009.

The students were very excited and kept asking different questions on Alba and how aluminum is produced. Later on, they went on a tour around the smelter and its different plants, including power stations, reduction lines, casthouse, and carbon, and were

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Injaz Bahrain Chief Executive, thanked Alba for their support and sponsorship of Injaz activities. She emphasised that Alba is one of the leading companies that lends active support to this programme, which aims to prepare youngsters for professional life. اأجل �سبك ق�سبان الأملنيوم التي يبلغ قطرها 203 مم.

New measures and processes introduced to enhance safety performance at Alba’s Casthouse was the topic of a paper presented at the TMS 2009 138th Annual Meeting held at Moscone Convention Centre, San Francisco, California, USA from 15 to 19 February 2009.Superintendent of Metal Handling Logistics at the Casthouse, Talib A. Rahim’s paper was about the latest modern casting machine technology that was installed at Alba’s Casthouse. The title of his paper was ‘Benefits to Safety performance at Alba from Use of the Wagstaff Autoflo System Forecasting of Extrusion Ingot.”“The aim of this paper was to describe the process for installing the Wagstaff AutoFlo system and its benefits not only in terms of safety and quality but also in the production of extrusion ingots. The approach to safety at Alba was outlined and the results achieved using a systematic approach to safety management was also demonstrated,” said Mr Rahim.As part of the safety continuous improvement program at Alba, a decision was taken to implement the Wagstaff developed AutoCast AutoFlo system for AirSlip casting of extrusion ingot. The AutoFlo system was installed in Casthouse 3 at ALBA in December 2007 for casting of 203 mm diameter extrusion ingot.

Conocarpus trees to be replaced at Alba

in response to directives by Her Highness Shaikha SabeekaIn response to the directives of Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of His Majesty the King Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council of Women, Chairman of the Alba Board of Directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, instructed the concerned departments at Alba to work on a plan to replace conocarpus trees with local fruit bearing trees as part of Alba’s Community Service activities.“We pledge to implement Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka’s directives in planting trees and caring for the environment,” stressed Mr. Al Kooheji. “We will start a campaign to stop planting the conocarpus trees and replace them with local fruit trees, as well as spreading this message across the Kingdom through Alba Community Service Committee.”“Opening gardens under her patronage in Bahrain’s major industrial companies demonstrates the great importance given by Her Highness in protecting the environment. Also, her support to environment protection programmes in the Kingdom represents the support of Bahrain’s wise leadership to improve this important aspect that influences Bahrain’s reputation and development,” said Mr Al Kooheji.Mr Al Kooheji made his statement following the visit of Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka to Alba last Tuesday, accompanied by His Highness Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate and Director of the General Directorate for the Protection of Marine Resources, Wildlife and Environment, and His Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance, as well as Alba Board members, Bahrain International Garden Show Organising Committee members and Alba employees.Mr. Al Kooheji also referred to Alba’s commitment to the environment as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, and stressed that protecting the environment is a priority for Alba as it directly affects the life of individuals and society as a whole to enjoy a clean and pollution-free environment.It is worth noting that Alba Oasis, now named after Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka, was established in 2005 and is considered one of the major environmental protection programmes that increases green cover in Bahrain. The Oasis, which is located in the south side of the smelter and covers a total of 9000 square meters, is divided into three parts; the water area, which is located at the entrance of the oasis to the east and was built to benefit from the cooling water of the aluminium moulds through pumping it into the lake and to the rest of the Oasis to be used in plant irrigation. The Oasis area is covered with different kinds of plants and trees, including palm trees, cactus, and other local kinds of trees. There is also the Alba garden, which includes many kinds of local fruit a vegetables.

اأ�سجار الظل ، واأخريا حديقة خ�رشوات األبا التى حتوى العديد من اخل�رشاوات والفواكه البحرينية.
