    Studijski program za koji se organizuje: Engleski jezik i knjievnostUslovljenost drugim predmetima : Savremene kulturoloke studije/Komunikologija, Sintaksa 2Ciljevi izuavanja predmeta: During the course students should get acquainted with the basics of discourseanalysis including basic social theoretical but also textual and pragmalinguistic resources. Students are introduced

    to the concepts of discourse, context and ideology and different approaches in discourse analysis. They will beexposed to a variety of texts in different contexts and upon completion of the course should demonstrate both a

    theoretical awareness and practical ability to accurately analyze discourses belonging to different genres and fieldsin terms of their syntactic, stylistic, semantic and pragmatic qualities. This is a seminar course in which students are

    expected to come fully prepared and to read texts in advance for the upcoming session. Midterm test consists oftheoretical and practical tasks, article review is meant to familiarize students with theory, while the final exam is a

    written discourse analysis of a small selected corpus previously approved by the professor.

    Joergenson, 2002, 1-23),From text to discourse. Discourse structure and context. (Fairclough, 2003:

    Chapter 1).

    Discourse, common sense and ideology. Ideologically contested words.(Fairclough, 2003, Chapter 2)

    Lexical semantics and word meaning. Figures of speech (tropes).

    Deixis and reference. Sentence relations and truth: presupposition, entailment,

    inference. (Thomas, 1995, Renkema, 1993)

    Reading week.Speech acts. Locution, illocution, perlocution. Explicit and implicit performatives.

    Coherence and cohesion. (Thomas, 1995, Renkema, 1993)Midterm

    Critical discourse analysis in practice. Experiential, relational and expressive ofvalues of texts. Description of texts. Fairclough (1989)

    Interpretation and explanation of texts (Fairclough, 1989). Intertextuality andrecontextualization (Fairclough, 2003).

    Argumentative strategies: construction, representation, legitimization, mitigation

    (Reisigl and Wodak, 2001, Chilton and Schaeffner, 1997). The representation ofsocial actors by Theo Van Leeuwen- group reading.
