  • ANNEXURE - 1 GREENBELT/GREEN COVER ACTION PLAN

Nalco Water India Limited is manufacturing specialty chemicals at Konnagar, Hooghly , West Bengal since 1989. Now, we want to expand our capacity at this existing plant without any major change of the factory. In existing factory, we have @13% green belt. There is not much space at our factory to develop green belt as per EC requirement. In advice of few EAC member during 10th EAC meeting , 29-31 July 2019, we have taken @1.5-acre land on lease basis in the same locality for 25 years to meet the green belt coverage @33%.

Considering this green belt proposal on external land in the same locality , the respected EAC members directed us during the EAC meeting on 12th May 2020 to invest @Rs 1 crore in corporate environmental responsibility (CER) during execution of the project. Accordingly, Nalco Water India Limited commits to spend 1 Crore INR towards Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) spend during execution of Capacity expansion project of Konnagar Plant, in period 2020-2023. occur.

Protection of first-aiders : In event of emergency assess the danger before taking action. Do not put yourself at risk of injury. If in doubt, contact emergency responders. Use personal protective equipment as required.

Notes to physician : Treat symptomatically.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

: See Section 11 for more detailed information on health effects and symptoms.

    Section: 5. FIREFIGHTING MEASURES

    Suitable extinguishing media : Foam

Carbon dioxide Dry powder Other extinguishing agent suitable for Class B fires For large fires, use water spray or fog, thoroughly drenching the burning material.

    Unsuitable extinguishing media

    : High volume water jet

    Specific hazards during firefighting

: Fire Hazard Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Flash back possible over considerable distance.

    Hazardous combustion products

: Decomposition products may include the following materials: Carbon oxides

    Special protective equipment for firefighters

    : Use personal protective equipment.

    Specific extinguishing methods

: Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

    Section: 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

: Remove all sources of ignition. Ensure clean-up is conducted by trained personnel only. Refer to protective measures listed in sections 7 and 8.

Environmental precautions : Do not allow contact with soil, surface or ground water. Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up

: Eliminate all ignition sources if safe to do so. Stop leak if safe to do so. Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see section 13). For large spills, dike spilled material or otherwise contain material to ensure runoff does not reach a waterway. Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system.

    Section: 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Advice on safe handling : Take necessary action to avoid static electricity discharge (which might cause

ignition of organic vapours). Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.

Conditions for safe storage : Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Keep away from oxidizing agents.

    12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION

ECOTOXICOLOGICAL EFFECTS : The tests for products or similar products were performed in clean water as set forth by USEPA (EPA/600/4-90/027). In order to evaluate the potential toxicity mitigation, tests were performed in environmentally relevant water with dissolved organic carbon. The toxicity of this product is due to an external mode of action, e.g., suffocation or immobilization. In the presence of suspended material, e.g., DOC, the polymers are bound to suspended material and the bioavailability is substantially reduced. As a result, the toxicity is expected to be lower. Under normal use and discharge conditions, the LC50 values of the representative polymers tested in the presence of DOC are expected to apply to this product. However, for large spills, the clean water data is more applicable. Acute Fish Results :
