There are a number of universities and professionalscientific organizations such as the American Association forthe Advancement of Science, which have considered UFOphenomena during periodic meetings and seminars. In addition,a list of private organizations interested in aerial phenomenamay be found in Gale's Encyclopedia of Associations (Edition 8,_Vol I, pp. 432-3). Such timely review of the situation byprivate groups insures that sound evidence will not be over-looked by the scientific community.

Again, the newFroject Blue Book is a civilian continuation o theoriginal Froject Blue Book, which did close in 1969. Here, twenty-years later, some of the same original Blue Book, Fentagon, andother persons are, still, looking for the real answer to the UFOphenomenon. That is tl:e reason, teo, I gave you the informationI did - about J. Original members of theProject Blue Bookfound that many reports never were received bythis group, but went to intelligence-gathering agencies. Q...10~~-O - ,1. I'While Director of the F.B.I., Mr. J. Edgar Hoover (whose personnelreported some ot the sightings themselves and who were, otherwise,brought in to someof the cases) repeatedly asked the Air Force, for complete information about the UFO's - to no ~vail. M r . William Se~ ns - F.B.I. - 2(\'lhile Chairman ot the Senate Committee on Science, Senator BarryGoldwater asked for infornation and was told that he was not ona "need to know" basis. This request, of Goldwater, had to do withan initial announcement frOil the Air Force that a "saucer" had crashand that a:lien bodies were (at tllt point in t 1me) located in a hallgeor other building, at Wright-patterson Air Force Base, at Dayton, ~iSenator Goldwater was refused any information in this matter, alo~winot being allowed to personally look inside of the alleged blilding.Before taking office as President, JimmyCarter announced to the pubthat, 1 elected, he would give the American people the Government'sinformation about UFO's. This did not happen, and Mr. carter was gia complete run-around - and I could tell you more about this, becauswas contacted by the Pentagon an the matter.

:The newProject Blue Book has 1 4 6 present, and/or former, Air Force,NASA,and intelligence-gathering agency personnel, among others, actias advisor-consultants to PBB- anonymously. These are persons who,the most part, have/had been actively engaged in earlier UFOreportstheir respective agencies, and who are still muchly interested.So, with this brief back-ground of information about me and about Gment participatia'l, the "challenge" I have mentioned - would be to hyou make inquiries at the highest levels of "oficia ldem" about whatGovernment really knows, whether or not there AREalian bodies locateANYWHERE,hat happened to the crashed "flying saucers", where are tphoto's taken by Air Force personnel through on-board gun cameras, asimilar ql~estioning. I ampositive you would find that even you wobe getting a general run-around and could not receive satisfactory a. to the above. I think you will/would find that you are not receivinall the information you should be receiving and which should be veryevident to you after making several inquiries. Youmay tend to drop'matter, thinking you are receiving answers to your questions, but thwi11 not b.e the case, I a ssure you.

Keep in mind, however, that some present officepersoMel, in the other agencies, may not know what you would beinquiring about - and will tell you that the Air Force Project BlueBook closed it's "doors" in 1969, and that the Air Force no longerinvest.!g~tes UFOsighting reports - this Ialready know. The importkey is to go beyond the A ir Force and into the other agencies; suchthe Office of Defense, C . I . A . , etc. President Bush, when asked aboUFG's, told the person asking "Youdo not knowthe half of it". Asknow, President Bush was formerly with the C . I . A . . His comments aretape, by the way.\1e11, Ithink this should suffice for t his time. Iappreciate yourpatience in reading this letter, and should you desire any additionalinformation, please do not hesitate to let me know. I have received your July 24th letter in which you askfor my help in securing information relative to investigations ofunidentified flyinq object (UFO) sightings.I have discussed your request with my colleagues, and Iwould first like to explain that the investigation of UFOs is notnow nor has it ever been the responsibility ot the FBI. 'lb.eDepartment of the Air Force conducted investigations and studiesof UFO reports from 1947 to 1969. On December 17, 1969, theSecretary of the Air Force announced the termination of "Proj ectBlue Book," and the Air Force has furnished all documentsregardinq its investigations of UFOs to the Modern MilitaryBranch, National Archives and Records Administration, Eigh1!lr.Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20408. Iunderstand this data is available for public review and analysis.You may wish to make an inquiry ot the Modern Military Branch forthe answers to some ot your questions.Also ot possible interest, the National Aeronautics andSpace Administration was asked by President carter to look intothe possibility ot resuminq UFO investigations in 1977. Afterstudyinq all the facts available, it decided that nothing wouldbe gained by further investigation, and the Department of the .,..Air Force agreed with that decision., You mar also want to check withthe National Aeronautics and Space Admin stration in connection
