PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello to members of NZAHBS and all Arabian enthusiastsI am proud to have been chosen as the current NZAHBS President. I have served on Council for 4 years now and each year I have been under the guidance of a different President so I come into this position with no illusions about the year ahead.Due to lower numbers than usual at the AGM in Auckland (many thanks to those who did attend), I thought it prudent to present a quick update. At the Council meeting prior to the AGM Allan Skinner resigned and I was co-opted back on to Council to fill the vacancy. I thank Allan for his diligent and sincere work as our Treasurer over the last year. After lengthy discussions about increases in subs etc the final decision of Council was to raise the Transfer fee to $46.00 (being $40.00 + GST).Main topics of discussion at the AGM were:

• 12.5% derivatives – the onus to supply proof of pedigree is on the applicant.

• ROM review – in particular the number of ridden points required.

• Information brochure needed to be sent with transfers to non members.

• Website to be continually improved.

• Expenses of the NZAHBS.

• Refresh of spreadsheet of costs of other breed societies for comparison.

• Arabian Year Book.

• Stud Directory due out this year.

• National Show – to be held in Christchurch on 8th & 9th February 2014.

• Unfortunately voting on Notices of Motion could not proceed due to errors in the presentation.

As per usual officers are elected at the Council meeting straight after the AGM and this list has been circulated and will be in each Arabianz magazine with contact numbers etc for all Councillors. Welcome to our new Council members Deb Bamber, Caitlin Dalton and Tracey Rhodes. I look forward to working with you and all other current NZAHBS Council Members over the coming year. I am also extremely happy to report to members that our very capable secretary Fiona McLachlan has reconsidered her resignation and will be staying on.The Allan Preston Seminar on Sunday was attended by a small group of 11 members. Allan very generously shared his ideas and knowledge gained from years of involvement with the Arabian breed. All who attended agreed it was a fantastic seminar. It is also great to be able to confirm that the North Island Championships will be held on 25 & 26 January 2014 at the TSB Indoor Arena in Hawera. Thank you to the Taranaki Club for their early application for this event. South Island Championships – date and venue TBA. The 2014 AGM will be held in the South Island – date and venue TBA.While discussing the major shows of next season it seems pertinent to also mention endurance. Those who are following this sport will notice that numbers at events are often equal to or higher than corresponding In-hand events. As a result of this it seems obvious to me that these two entities, being In-hand Showing and Endurance, must now be held with equal importance within the NZAHBS.Considering the year ahead we look to “holding a steady ship” and hope that the initiatives we table will be worthwhile for members and our fabulous Arabian Horses.Kindest regards to you allMelanie BarkerPresident, NZAHBS

COUNCIL MEETING: 17 May 2013

Transfer Fee Increase Council agreed to increase the transfer fee from $30.00 to $40.00 + GST with immediate effect. Updated forms are available to download from the website or available from the office on request.

Judy Nordquist Trophy Council agreed for the Judy Nordquist Trophy to go back to being the Supreme Award at the National Arabian Championships from 2014 onwards. Currently the trophy is awarded to the Champion Purebred Mare.

Registration Forms Council agreed to discontinue the self-carbonated registration forms as they do not comply with the current registration regulations and reinstate the old registration forms. Updated registration forms will be available to download from the NZAHBS website or available from the office on request.

Stud DirectoryA Stud Directory will be published for the 2013/14 breeding season. Forms will be emailed in the next few weeks for members to complete and return.

Annual Subscriptions2013 membership invoices were posted with the December mailout and are now overdue for payment. A reminder that any member wishing to resign their membership must do so in writing.
