important role in increasing agricultural production in all developing countries, including China;

• China is now the largest fertilizer producer and consumer in the world ;

• Such high levels of fertilizer use in recent years have raised concerns about the overuse of chemical fertilizer and the negative environmental consequences that overuse would generate.

higher flood/drought risk, they use less fertilizer

• Level of wealth does not matter (insignificant)– The finding of no capital

constraint by farmers in the purchase of agricultural inputs is consistent with findings of a much bigger study on credit by Park and Wang
