Raag Goojaree, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥ (10)

काहे रे मन चितवहि उदमु जा आहरि हरि जीउ परिआ ॥

kaahay ray man chitvahi udam jaa aahar har jee-o pari-aa.

Why, O mind, do you plot and plan, when the Dear Lord Himself provides for your care?

ਸੈਲ ਪਥਰ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ (10)

सैल पथर महि जंत उपाए ता का रिजकु आगै करि धरिआ ॥१॥

sail pathar meh jant upaa-ay taa kaa rijak aagai kar Dhari-aa. ||1||

From rocks and stones He created living beings; He places their nourishment before them. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਧਉ ਜੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥ (10)

मेरे माधउ जी सतसंगति मिले सु तरिआ ॥

mayray maaDha-o jee satsangat milay so tari-aa.

O my Dear Lord of souls, one who joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is saved.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (10)

गुर परसादि परम पदु पाइआ सूके कासट हरिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

gur parsaad param pad paa-i-aa sookay kaasat hari-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.

By Guru's Grace, the supreme status is obtained, and the dry wood blossoms forth again in lush greenery. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨਨਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਰਿਆ ॥ (10)

जननि पिता लोक सुत बनिता कोइ न किस की धरिआ ॥

janan pitaa lok sut banitaa ko-ay na kis kee Dhari-aa.

Mothers, fathers, friends, children and spouses-no one is the support of anyone else.

ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਭਉ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੨॥ (10)

सिरि सिरि रिजकु स्मबाहे ठाकुरु काहे मन भउ करिआ ॥२॥

sir sir rijak sambaahay thaakur kaahay man bha-o kari-aa. ||2||

For each and every person, our Lord and Master provides sustenance. Why are you so afraid, O mind? ||2||

ਊਡੇ ਊਡਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੈ ਕੋਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਬਚਰੇ ਛਰਿਆ ॥ (10)

ऊडे ऊडि आवै सै कोसा तिसु पाछै बचरे छरिआ ॥

ooday ood aavai sai kosaa tis paachhai bachray chhari-aa.

The flamingoes fly hundreds of miles, leaving their young ones behind.

ਤਿਨ ਕਵਣੁ ਖਲਾਵੈ ਕਵਣੁ ਚੁਗਾਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥ (10)

तिन कवणु खलावै कवणु चुगावै मन महि सिमरनु करिआ ॥३॥

tin kavan khalaavai kavan chugaavai man meh simran kari-aa. ||3||

Who feeds them, and who teaches them to feed themselves? Have you ever thought of this in your mind? ||3||

ਸਭਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਨ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਧਰਿਆ ॥ (10)

सभि निधान दस असट सिधान ठाकुर कर तल धरिआ ॥

sabh niDhaan das asat sidhaan thaakur kar tal Dhari-aa.

All the nine treasures, and the eighteen supernatural powers are held by our Lord and Master in the Palm of His Hand.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੫॥ (10)

जन नानक बलि बलि सद बलि जाईऐ तेरा अंतु न पारावरिआ ॥४॥५॥

jan naanak bal bal sad bal jaa-ee-ai tayraa ant na paraavari-aa. ||4||5||

Servant Nanak is devoted, dedicated, forever a sacrifice to You, Lord. Your Expanse has no limit, no boundary. ||4||5||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ (12)

आसा महला ५ ॥

aasaa mehlaa 5.

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥ (12)

भई परापति मानुख देहुरीआ ॥

bha-ee paraapat maanukh dayhuree-aa.

This human body has been given to you.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥ (12)

गोबिंद मिलण की इह तेरी बरीआ ॥

gobind milan kee ih tayree baree-aa.

This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.

ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥ (12)

अवरि काज तेरै कितै न काम ॥

avar kaaj tayrai kitai na kaam.

Nothing else will work.

ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥ (12)

मिलु साधसंगति भजु केवल नाम ॥१॥

mil saaDhsangat bhaj kayval naam. ||1||

Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1||

ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥ (12)

सरंजामि लागु भवजल तरन कै ॥

saraNjaam laag bhavjal taran kai.

Make every effort to cross over this terrifying world-ocean.

ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (12)

जनमु ब्रिथा जात रंगि माइआ कै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

janam baritha jaat rang maa-i-aa kai. ||1|| rahaa-o.

You are squandering this life uselessly in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥ (12)

जपु तपु संजमु धरमु न कमाइआ ॥

jap tap sanjam Dharam na kamaa-i-aa.

I have not practiced meditation, self-discipline, self-restraint or righteous living.

ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ (12)

सेवा साध न जानिआ हरि राइआ ॥

sayvaa saaDh na jaani-aa har raa-i-aa.

I have not served the Holy; I have not acknowledged the Lord, my King.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥ (12)

कहु नानक हम नीच करमा ॥

kaho naanak ham neech karammaa.

Says Nanak, my actions are contemptible!

ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮਾ ॥੨॥੪॥ (12)

सरणि परे की राखहु सरमा ॥२॥४॥

saran paray kee raakho sarmaa. ||2||4||

O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary; please, preserve my honor! ||2||4||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ (13)

रागु गउड़ी पूरबी महला ५ ॥

raag ga-orhee poorbee mehlaa 5.

Raag Gauree Poorbee, Fifth Mehl:

ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤ ਟਹਲ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ॥ (13)

करउ बेनंती सुणहु मेरे मीता संत टहल की बेला ॥

kara-o baynantee sunhu mayray meetaa sant tahal kee baylaa.

Listen, my friends, I beg of you: now is the time to serve the Saints!

ਈਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਚਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਆਗੈ ਬਸਨੁ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥ (13)

ईहा खाटि चलहु हरि लाहा आगै बसनु सुहेला ॥१॥

eehaa khaat chalhu har laahaa aagai basan suhaylaa. ||1||

In this world, earn the profit of the Lord's Name, and hereafter, you shall dwell in peace. ||1||

ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣਾਰੇ ॥ (13)

अउध घटै दिनसु रैणारे ॥

a-oDh ghatai dinas rainaaray.

This life is diminishing, day and night.

ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (13)

मन गुर मिलि काज सवारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

man gur mil kaaj savaaray. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Meeting with the Guru, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਬਿਕਾਰੁ ਸੰਸੇ ਮਹਿ ਤਰਿਓ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ (13)

इहु संसारु बिकारु संसे महि तरिओ ब्रहम गिआनी ॥

ih sansaar bikaar sansay meh tari-o barahm gi-aanee.

This world is engrossed in corruption and cynicism. Only those who know God are saved.

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਗਾਇ ਪੀਆਵੈ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੨॥ (13)

जिसहि जगाइ पीआवै इहु रसु अकथ कथा तिनि जानी ॥२॥

jisahi jagaa-ay pee-aavai ih ras akath kathaa tin jaanee. ||2||

Only those who are awakened by the Lord to drink in this Sublime Essence, come to know the Unspoken Speech of the Lord. ||2||

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਏ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਹਾਝਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਨਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥ (13)

जा कउ आए सोई बिहाझहु हरि गुर ते मनहि बसेरा ॥

jaa ka-o aa-ay so-ee bihaajhahu har gur tay maneh basayraa.

Purchase only that for which you have come into the world, and through the Guru, the Lord shall dwell within your mind.

ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇਗੋ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ (13)

निज घरि महलु पावहु सुख सहजे बहुरि न होइगो फेरा ॥३॥

nij ghar mahal paavhu sukh sehjay bahur na ho-igo fayraa. ||3||

Within the home of your own inner being, you shall obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence with intuitive ease. You shall not be consigned again to the wheel of reincarnation. ||3||

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਰੇ ॥ (13)

अंतरजामी पुरख बिधाते सरधा मन की पूरे ॥

antarjaamee purakh biDhaatay sarDhaa man kee pooray.

O Inner-knower, Searcher of Hearts, O Primal Being, Architect of Destiny: please fulfill this yearning of my mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਇਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਧੂਰੇ ॥੪॥੫॥ (13)

नानक दासु इहै सुखु मागै मो कउ करि संतन की धूरे ॥४॥५॥

naanak daas ihai sukh maagai mo ka-o kar santan kee Dhooray. ||4||5||

Nanak, Your slave, begs for this happiness: let me be the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||4||5||

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੧ ॥ (42)

सिरीरागु महला ५ घरु १ ॥

sireeraag mehlaa 5 ghar 1.

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl, First House:

ਕਿਆ ਤੂ ਰਤਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥ (42)

किआ तू रता देखि कै पुत्र कलत्र सीगार ॥

ki-aa too rataa daykh kai putar kaltar seegaar.

Why are you so thrilled by the sight of your son and your beautifully decorated wife?

ਰਸ ਭੋਗਹਿ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਰੰਗ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ (42)

रस भोगहि खुसीआ करहि माणहि रंग अपार ॥

ras bhogeh khusee-aa karahi maaneh rang apaar.

You enjoy tasty delicacies, you have lots of fun, and you indulge in endless pleasures.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸੀ ਵਰਤਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਫਾਰ ॥ (42)

बहुतु करहि फुरमाइसी वरतहि होइ अफार ॥

bahut karahi furmaa-isee varteh ho-ay afaar.

You give all sorts of commands, and you act so superior.

ਕਰਤਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ (42)

करता चिति न आवई मनमुख अंध गवार ॥१॥

kartaa chit na aavee manmukh anDh gavaar. ||1||

The Creator does not come into the mind of the blind, idiotic, self-willed manmukh. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਇ ॥ (42)

मेरे मन सुखदाता हरि सोइ ॥

mayray man sukh-daata har so-ay.

O my mind, the Lord is the Giver of peace.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (42)

गुर परसादी पाईऐ करमि परापति होइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

gur parsaadee paa-ee-ai karam paraapat ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

By Guru's Grace, He is found. By His Mercy, He is obtained. ||1||Pause||

ਕਪੜਿ ਭੋਗਿ ਲਪਟਾਇਆ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥ (42)

कपड़ि भोगि लपटाइआ सुइना रुपा खाकु ॥

kaparh bhog laptaa-i-aa su-inaa rupaa khaak.

People are entangled in the enjoyment of fine clothes, but gold and silver are only dust.

ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੇ ਕੀਏ ਰਥ ਅਥਾਕ ॥ (42)

हैवर गैवर बहु रंगे कीए रथ अथाक ॥

haivar gaivar baho rangay kee-ay rath athaak.

They acquire beautiful horses and elephants, and ornate carriages of many kinds.

ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਸਭ ਸਾਕ ॥ (42)

किस ही चिति न पावही बिसरिआ सभ साक ॥

kis hee chit na paavhee bisri-aa sabh saak.

They think of nothing else, and they forget all their relatives.

ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੨॥ (42)

सिरजणहारि भुलाइआ विणु नावै नापाक ॥२॥

sirjanhaar bhulaa-i-aa vin naavai naapaak. ||2||

They ignore their Creator; without the Name, they are impure. ||2||

ਲੈਦਾ ਬਦ ਦੁਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰਹਿ ਇਕਤ ॥ (42)

लैदा बद दुआइ तूं माइआ करहि इकत ॥

laidaa bad du-aa-ay tooN maa-i-aa karahi ikat.

Gathering the wealth of Maya, you earn an evil reputation.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਪਤੀਆਇਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਣੁ ਤੁਝੈ ਅਨਿਤ ॥ (42)

जिस नो तूं पतीआइदा सो सणु तुझै अनित ॥

jis no tooN patee-aa-idaa so san tujhai anit.

Those whom you work to please shall pass away along with you.

ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ॥ (42)

अहंकारु करहि अहंकारीआ विआपिआ मन की मति ॥

ahaNkaar karahi ahaNkaaree-aa vi-aapi-aa man kee mat.

The egotistical are engrossed in egotism, ensnared by the intellect of the mind.

ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਪਤਿ ॥੩॥ (42)

तिनि प्रभि आपि भुलाइआ ना तिसु जाति न पति ॥३॥

tin parabh aap bhulaa-i-aa naa tis jaat na pat. ||3||

One who is deceived by God Himself, has no position and no honor. ||3||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਇਕੋ ਸਜਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ (42)

सतिगुरि पुरखि मिलाइआ इको सजणु सोइ ॥

satgur purakh milaa-i-aa iko sajan so-ay.

The True Guru, the Primal Being, has led me to meet the One, my only Friend.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਣਸ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਇ ॥ (42)

हरि जन का राखा एकु है किआ माणस हउमै रोइ ॥

har jan kaa raakhaa ayk hai ki-aa maanas ha-umai ro-ay.

The One is the Saving Grace of His humble servant. Why should the proud cry out in ego?

ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਦਰਿ ਫੇਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ (42)

जो हरि जन भावै सो करे दरि फेरु न पावै कोइ ॥

jo har jan bhaavai so karay dar fayr na paavai ko-ay.

As the servant of the Lord wills, so does the Lord act. At the Lord's Door, none of his requests are denied.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧॥੭੧॥ (42)

नानक रता रंगि हरि सभ जग महि चानणु होइ ॥४॥१॥७१॥

naanak rataa rang har sabh jag meh chaanan ho-ay. ||4||1||71||

Nanak is attuned to the Love of the Lord, whose Light pervades the entire Universe. ||4||1||71||

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ (42)

ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸੁ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਘਣਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਭੂਲਿ ਖੁਸੀਆ ॥ (42)

मनि बिलासु बहु रंगु घणा द्रिसटि भूलि खुसीआ ॥

man bilaas baho rang ghanaa darisat bhool khusee-aa.

With the mind caught up in playful pleasures, involved in all sorts of amusements and sights that stagger the eyes, people are led astray.

ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰ ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਹਸੇ ਪਰੀਆ ॥੧॥ (42)

छत्रधार बादिसाहीआ विचि सहसे परीआ ॥१॥

chhatarDhaar baadisaahee-aa vich sahsay paree-aa. ||1||

The emperors sitting on their thrones are consumed by anxiety. ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ (42)

भाई रे सुखु साधसंगि पाइआ ॥

bhaa-ee ray sukh saaDhsang paa-i-aa.

O Siblings of Destiny, peace is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਗਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (42)

लिखिआ लेखु तिनि पुरखि बिधातै दुखु सहसा मिटि गइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

likhi-aa laykh tin purakh biDhaatai dukh sahsaa mit ga-i-aa. ||1|| rahaa-o.

If the Supreme Lord, the Architect of Destiny, writes such an order, then anguish and anxiety are erased. ||1||Pause||"

ਜੇਤੇ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਾ ਤੇਤੇ ਭਵਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ (42)

जेते थान थनंतरा तेते भवि आइआ ॥

jaytay thaan banantaraa taytay bhav aa-i-aa.

There are so many places-I have wandered through them all.

ਧਨ ਪਾਤੀ ਵਡ ਭੂਮੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੨॥ (42)

धन पाती वड भूमीआ मेरी मेरी करि परिआ ॥२॥

Dhan paatee vad bhoomee-aa mayree mayree kar pari-aa. ||2||

The masters of wealth and the great land-lords have fallen, crying out, "This is mine! This is mine!" ||2||

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਚਲਾਏ ਨਿਸੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਫਰਿਆ ॥ (42)

हुकमु चलाए निसंग होइ वरतै अफरिआ ॥

hukam chalaa-ay nisang ho-ay vartai afri-aa.

They issue their commands fearlessly, and act in pride.

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਲਇਓਨੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਖਾਕੁ ਰਲਿਆ ॥੩॥ (42)

सभु को वसगति करि लइओनु बिनु नावै खाकु रलिआ ॥३॥

sabh ko vasgat kar la-i-on bin naavai khaak rali-aa. ||3||

They subdue all under their command, but without the Name, they are reduced to dust. ||3||

ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸ ਸੇਵਕਾ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਦਰਿ ਖਰਿਆ ॥ (42)

कोटि तेतीस सेवका सिध साधिक दरि खरिआ ॥

kot taytees sayvkaa siDh saaDhik dar khari-aa.

Even those who are served by the 33 million angelic beings, at whose door the Siddhas and the Saadhus stand,

ਗਿਰੰਬਾਰੀ ਵਡ ਸਾਹਬੀ ਸਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਪਨੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੪॥੨॥੭੨॥ (42)

गिर्मबारी वड साहबी सभु नानक सुपनु थीआ ॥४॥२॥७२॥

girambaaree vad saahbee sabh naanak supan thee-aa. ||4||2||72||

who live in wondrous affluence and rule over mountains, oceans and vast dominions-O Nanak, in the end, all this vanishes like a dream! ||4||2||72||

ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪਪੋਲੀਐ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੁਝੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਜਾਣਿ ॥ (43)

भलके उठि पपोलीऐ विणु बुझे मुगध अजाणि ॥

bhalkay uth papolee-ai vin bujhay mugaDh ajaan.

Arising each day, you cherish your body, but you are idiotic, ignorant and without understanding.

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਛੁਟੈਗੀ ਬੇਬਾਣਿ ॥ (43)

सो प्रभु चिति न आइओ छुटैगी बेबाणि ॥

so parabh chit na aa-i-o chhutaigee baybaan.

You are not conscious of God, and your body shall be cast into the wilderness.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥ (43)

सतिगुर सेती चितु लाइ सदा सदा रंगु माणि ॥१॥

satgur saytee chit laa-ay sadaa sadaa rang maan. ||1||

Focus your consciousness on the True Guru; you shall enjoy bliss forever and ever. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈਣਿ ॥ (43)

प्राणी तूं आइआ लाहा लैणि ॥

paraanee tooN aa-i-aa laahaa lain.

O mortal, you came here to earn a profit.

ਲਗਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਕੁਫਕੜੇ ਸਭ ਮੁਕਦੀ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (43)

लगा कितु कुफकड़े सभ मुकदी चली रैणि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

lagaa kit khufkarhay sabh mukdee chalee rain. ||1|| rahaa-o.

What useless activities are you attached to? Your life-night is coming to its end. ||1||Pause||

ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੇ ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀਆ ਦਿਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੁ ॥ (43)

कुदम करे पसु पंखीआ दिसै नाही कालु ॥

kudam karay pas pankhee-aa disai naahee kaal.

The animals and the birds frolic and play-they do not see death.

ਓਤੈ ਸਾਥਿ ਮਨੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਫਾਥਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਾਲਿ ॥ (43)

ओतै साथि मनुखु है फाथा माइआ जालि ॥

otai saath manukh hai faathaa maa-i-aa jaal.

Mankind is also with them, trapped in the net of Maya.

ਮੁਕਤੇ ਸੇਈ ਭਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨॥ (43)

मुकते सेई भालीअहि जि सचा नामु समालि ॥२॥

muktay say-ee bhaalee-ah je sachaa naam samaal. ||2||

Those who always remember the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are considered to be liberated. ||2||

ਜੋ ਘਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਵਣਾ ਸੋ ਲਗਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥ (43)

जो घरु छडि गवावणा सो लगा मन माहि ॥

jo ghar chhad gavaavnaa so lagaa man maahi.

That dwelling which you will have to abandon and vacate-you are attached to it in your mind.

ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਰਤਣਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ (43)

जिथै जाइ तुधु वरतणा तिस की चिंता नाहि ॥

jithai jaa-ay tuDh vartanaa tis kee chintaa naahi.

And that place where you must go to dwell-you have no regard for it at all.

ਫਾਥੇ ਸੇਈ ਨਿਕਲੇ ਜਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੩॥ (43)

फाथे सेई निकले जि गुर की पैरी पाहि ॥३॥

faathay say-ee niklay je gur kee pairee paahi. ||3||

Those who fall at the Feet of the Guru are released from this bondage. ||3||

ਕੋਈ ਰਖਿ ਨ ਸਕਈ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ (43)

कोई रखि न सकई दूजा को न दिखाइ ॥

ko-ee rakh na sak-ee doojaa ko na dikhaa-ay.

No one else can save you-don't look for anyone else.

ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਇ ਪਇਆ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥ (43)

चारे कुंडा भालि कै आइ पइआ सरणाइ ॥

chaaray kundaa bhaal kai aa-ay pa-i-aa sarnaa-ay.

I have searched in all four directions; I have come to find His Sanctuary.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹਿ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਲਇਆ ਕਢਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੭੩॥ (43)

नानक सचै पातिसाहि डुबदा लइआ कढाइ ॥४॥३॥७३॥

naanak sachai paatisaah dubdaa la-i-aa kadhaa-ay. ||4||3||73||

O Nanak, the True King has pulled me out and saved me from drowning! ||4||3||73||

ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਕਾ ਪਾਹੁਣਾ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ (43)

घड़ी मुहत का पाहुणा काज सवारणहारु ॥

gharhee muhat kaa paahunaa kaaj savaaranhaar.

For a brief moment, man is a guest of the Lord; he tries to resolve his affairs.

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਮਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਸਮਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੁ ॥ (43)

माइआ कामि विआपिआ समझै नाही गावारु ॥

maa-i-aa kaam vi-aapi-aa samjhai naahee gaavaar.

Engrossed in Maya and sexual desire, the fool does not understand.

ਉਠਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਆ ਪਰਿਆ ਵਸਿ ਜੰਦਾਰ ॥੧॥ (43)

उठि चलिआ पछुताइआ परिआ वसि जंदार ॥१॥

uth chali-aa pachhutaa-i-aa pari-aa vas jandaar. ||1||

He arises and departs with regret, and falls into the clutches of the Messenger of Death. ||1||

ਅੰਧੇ ਤੂੰ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ (43)

अंधे तूं बैठा कंधी पाहि ॥

anDhay tooN baithaa kanDhee paahi.

You are sitting on the collapsing riverbank-are you blind?

ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (43)

जे होवी पूरबि लिखिआ ता गुर का बचनु कमाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

jay hovee poorab likhi-aa taa gur kaa bachan kamaahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.

If you are so pre-destined, then act according to the Guru's Teachings. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਹ ਡਡੁਰੀ ਪਕੀ ਵਢਣਹਾਰ ॥ (43)

हरी नाही नह डडुरी पकी वढणहार ॥

haree naahee nah daduree pakee vadhanhaar.

The Reaper does not look upon any as unripe, half-ripe or fully ripe.

ਲੈ ਲੈ ਦਾਤ ਪਹੁਤਿਆ ਲਾਵੇ ਕਰਿ ਤਈਆਰੁ ॥ (43)

लै लै दात पहुतिआ लावे करि तईआरु ॥

lai lai daat pahuti-aa laavay kar ta-ee-aar.

Picking up and wielding their sickles, the harvesters arrive.

ਜਾ ਹੋਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕਿਰਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਤਾ ਲੁਣਿ ਮਿਣਿਆ ਖੇਤਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ (43)

जा होआ हुकमु किरसाण दा ता लुणि मिणिआ खेतारु ॥२॥

jaa ho-aa hukam kirsaan daa taa lun mini-aa khaytaar. ||2||

When the landlord gives the order, they cut and measure the crop. ||2||

ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਗਇਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਿ ਸੋਇਆ ॥ (43)

पहिला पहरु धंधै गइआ दूजै भरि सोइआ ॥

pahilaa pahar DhanDhai ga-i-aa doojai bhar so-i-aa.

The first watch of the night passes away in worthless affairs, and the second passes in deep sleep.

ਤੀਜੈ ਝਾਖ ਝਖਾਇਆ ਚਉਥੈ ਭੋਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ (43)

तीजै झाख झखाइआ चउथै भोरु भइआ ॥

teejai jhaakh jhakhaa-i-aa cha-uthai bhor bha-i-aa.

In the third, they babble nonsense, and when the fourth watch comes, the day of death has arrived.

ਕਦ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥ (43)

कद ही चिति न आइओ जिनि जीउ पिंडु दीआ ॥३॥

kad hee chit na aa-i-o jin jee-o pind dee-aa. ||3||

The thought of the One who bestows body and soul never enters the mind. ||3||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੀਆ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ (43)

साधसंगति कउ वारिआ जीउ कीआ कुरबाणु ॥

saaDhsangat ka-o vaari-aa jee-o kee-aa kurbaan.

I am devoted to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; I sacrifice my soul to them.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਨਿ ਪਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ॥ (43)

जिस ते सोझी मनि पई मिलिआ पुरखु सुजाणु ॥

jis tay sojhee man pa-ee mili-aa purakh sujaan.

Through them, understanding has entered my mind, and I have met the All-knowing Lord God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਡਿਠਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੭੪॥ (43)

नानक डिठा सदा नालि हरि अंतरजामी जाणु ॥४॥४॥७४॥

naanak dithaa sadaa naal har antarjaamee jaan. ||4||4||74||

Nanak sees the Lord always with him-the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||4||74||

सभे गला विसरनु इको विसरि न जाउ ॥

sabhay galaa visran iko visar na jaa-o.

Let me forget everything, but let me not forget the One Lord.

ਧੰਧਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ (43)

धंधा सभु जलाइ कै गुरि नामु दीआ सचु सुआउ ॥

DhanDhaa sabh jalaa-ay kai gur naam dee-aa sach su-aa-o.

All my evil pursuits have been burnt away; the Guru has blessed me with the Naam, the true object of life.

ਆਸਾ ਸਭੇ ਲਾਹਿ ਕੈ ਇਕਾ ਆਸ ਕਮਾਉ ॥ (43)

आसा सभे लाहि कै इका आस कमाउ ॥

aasaa sabhay laahi kai ikaa aas kamaa-o.

Give up all other hopes, and rely on the One Hope.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਅਗੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ (43)

जिनी सतिगुरु सेविआ तिन अगै मिलिआ थाउ ॥१॥

jinee satgur sayvi-aa tin agai mili-aa thaa-o. ||1||

Those who serve the True Guru receive a place in the world hereafter. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਨੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ॥ (43)

मन मेरे करते नो सालाहि ॥

man mayray kartay no saalaahi.

O my mind, praise the Creator.

ਸਭੇ ਛਡਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (43)

सभे छडि सिआणपा गुर की पैरी पाहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

sabhay chhad si-aanpaa gur kee pairee paahi. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Give up all your clever tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru. ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪਈ ਜੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ (43)

दुख भुख नह विआपई जे सुखदाता मनि होइ ॥

dukh bhukh nah vi-aapa-ee jay sukh-daata man ho-ay.

Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.

ਕਿਤ ਹੀ ਕੰਮਿ ਨ ਛਿਜੀਐ ਜਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ (43)

कित ही कमि न छिजीऐ जा हिरदै सचा सोइ ॥

kit hee kamm na chhijee-ai jaa hirdai sachaa so-ay.

No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂੰ ਰਖਹਿ ਹਥ ਦੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ (43)

जिसु तूं रखहि हथ दे तिसु मारि न सकै कोइ ॥

jis tooN rakheh hath day tis maar na sakai ko-ay.

No one can kill that one unto whom You, Lord, give Your Hand and protect.

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥੨॥ (43)

सुखदाता गुरु सेवीऐ सभि अवगण कढै धोइ ॥२॥

sukh-daata gur sayvee-ai sabh avgan kadhai Dho-ay. ||2||

Serve the Guru, the Giver of Peace; He shall remove and wash off all your faults. ||2||

ਸੇਵਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਸੇਵਕੋ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਸੇਵ ॥ (43)

सेवा मंगै सेवको लाईआं अपुनी सेव ॥

sayvaa mangai sayvko laa-ee-aaN apunee sayv.

Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਮਸਕਤੇ ਤੂਠੈ ਪਾਵਾ ਦੇਵ ॥ (44)

साधू संगु मसकते तूठै पावा देव ॥

saaDhoo sang maskatay toothai paavaa dayv.

The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased.

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣ ਕਰੇਵ ॥ (44)

सभु किछु वसगति साहिबै आपे करण करेव ॥

sabh kichh vasgat saahibai aapay karan karayv.

Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਮਨਸਾ ਸਭ ਪੂਰੇਵ ॥੩॥ (44)

सतिगुर कै बलिहारणै मनसा सभ पूरेव ॥३॥

satgur kai balihaarnai mansaa sabh poorayv. ||3||

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3||

ਇਕੋ ਦਿਸੈ ਸਜਣੋ ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ (44)

इको दिसै सजणो इको भाई मीतु ॥

iko disai sajno iko bhaa-ee meet.

The One appears to be my Companion; the One is my Brother and Friend.

ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਸਾਮਗਰੀ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਤਿ ॥ (44)

इकसै दी सामगरी इकसै दी है रीति ॥

iksai dee saamagree iksai dee hai reet.

The elements and the components are all made by the One; they are held in their order by the One.

ਇਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ॥ (44)

इकस सिउ मनु मानिआ ता होआ निहचलु चीतु ॥

ikas si-o man maani-aa taa ho-aa nihchal cheet.

When the mind accepts, and is satisfied with the One, then the consciousness becomes steady and stable.

ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਤੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭੫॥ (44)

सचु खाणा सचु पैनणा टेक नानक सचु कीतु ॥४॥५॥७५॥

sach khaanaa sach painnaa tayk naanak sach keet. ||4||5||75||

Then, one's food is the True Name, one's garments are the True Name, and one's Support, O Nanak, is the True Name. ||4||5||75||

सभे थोक परापते जे आवै इकु हथि ॥

sabhay thok paraapatay jay aavai ik hath.

All things are received if the One is obtained.

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਥਿ ॥ (44)

जनमु पदारथु सफलु है जे सचा सबदु कथि ॥

janam padaarath safal hai jay sachaa sabad kath.

The precious gift of this human life becomes fruitful when one chants the True Word of the Shabad.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਥਿ ॥੧॥ (44)

गुर ते महलु परापते जिसु लिखिआ होवै मथि ॥१॥

gur tay mahal paraapatay jis likhi-aa hovai math. ||1||

One who has such destiny written on his forehead enters the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, through the Guru. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਏਕਸ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ (44)

मेरे मन एकस सिउ चितु लाइ ॥

mayray man aykas si-o chit laa-ay.

O my mind, focus your consciousness on the One.

ਏਕਸ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਭ ਧੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (44)

एकस बिनु सभ धंधु है सभ मिथिआ मोहु माइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

aykas bin sabh DhanDh hai sabh mithi-aa moh maa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Without the One, all entanglements are worthless; emotional attachment to Maya is totally false. ||1||Pause||

ਲਖ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ (44)

लख खुसीआ पातिसाहीआ जे सतिगुरु नदरि करेइ ॥

lakh khusee-aa paatisaahee-aa jay satgur nadar karay-i.

Hundreds of thousands of princely pleasures are enjoyed, if the True Guru bestows His Glance of Grace.

ਨਿਮਖ ਏਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ (44)

निमख एक हरि नामु देइ मेरा मनु तनु सीतलु होइ ॥

nimakh ayk har naam day-ay mayraa man tan seetal ho-ay.

If He bestows the Name of the Lord, for even a moment, my mind and body are cooled and soothed.

ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ॥੨॥ (44)

जिस कउ पूरबि लिखिआ तिनि सतिगुर चरन गहे ॥२॥

jis ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin satgur charan gahay. ||2||

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny hold tight to the Feet of the True Guru. ||2||

ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਫਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ (44)

सफल मूरतु सफला घड़ी जितु सचे नालि पिआरु ॥

safal moorat saflaa gharhee jit sachay naal pi-aar.

Fruitful is that moment, and fruitful is that time, when one is in love with the True Lord.

ਦੂਖੁ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ (44)

दूखु संतापु न लगई जिसु हरि का नामु अधारु ॥

dookh santaap na lag-ee jis har kaa naam aDhaar.

Suffering and sorrow do not touch those who have the Support of the Name of the Lord.

ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਾਢਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਪਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ (44)

बाह पकड़ि गुरि काढिआ सोई उतरिआ पारि ॥३॥

baah pakarh gur kaadhi-aa so-ee utri-aa paar. ||3||

Grasping him by the arm, the Guru lifts them up and out, and carries them across to the other side. ||3||

ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ॥ (44)

थानु सुहावा पवितु है जिथै संत सभा ॥

thaan suhaavaa pavit hai jithai sant sabhaa.

Embellished and immaculate is that place where the Saints gather together.

ਢੋਈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਨੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਲਭਾ ॥ (44)

ढोई तिस ही नो मिलै जिनि पूरा गुरू लभा ॥

dho-ee tis hee no milai jin pooraa guroo labhaa.

He alone finds shelter, who has met the Perfect Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਧਾ ਘਰੁ ਤਹਾਂ ਜਿਥੈ ਮਿਰਤੁ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੭੬॥ (44)

नानक बधा घरु तहां जिथै मिरतु न जनमु जरा ॥४॥६॥७६॥

naanak baDhaa ghar tahaaN jithai mirat na janam jaraa. ||4||6||76||

Nanak builds his house upon that site where there is no death, no birth, and no old age. ||4||6||76||

ਸੋਈ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਜੀਅੜੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥ (44)

सोई धिआईऐ जीअड़े सिरि साहां पातिसाहु ॥

so-ee Dhi-aa-ee-ai jee-arhay sir saahaaN paatisaahu.

Meditate on Him, O my soul; He is the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors.

ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੀ ਕਰਿ ਆਸ ਮਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ (44)

तिस ही की करि आस मन जिस का सभसु वेसाहु ॥

tis hee kee kar aas man jis kaa sabhas vaysaahu.

Place the hopes of your mind in the One, in whom all have faith.

ਸਭਿ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਛਡਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਪਾਹੁ ॥੧॥ (44)

सभि सिआणपा छडि कै गुर की चरणी पाहु ॥१॥

sabh si-aanpaa chhad kai gur kee charnee paahu. ||1||

Give up all your clever tricks, and grasp the Feet of the Guru. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ (44)

मन मेरे सुख सहज सेती जपि नाउ ॥

man mayray sukh sahj saytee jap naa-o.

O my mind, chant the Name with intuitive peace and poise.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਇੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (44)

आठ पहर प्रभु धिआइ तूं गुण गोइंद नित गाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

aath pahar parabh Dhi-aa-ay tooN gun go-ind nit gaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਰੁ ਮਨਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ (44)

तिस की सरनी परु मना जिसु जेवडु अवरु न कोइ ॥

tis kee sarnee par manaa jis jayvad avar na ko-ay.

Seek His Shelter, O my mind; there is no other as Great as He.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਘਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਨ ਮੂਲੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ (44)

जिसु सिमरत सुखु होइ घणा दुखु दरदु न मूले होइ ॥

jis simrat sukh ho-ay ghanaa dukh darad na moolay ho-ay.

Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥ (44)

सदा सदा करि चाकरी प्रभु साहिबु सचा सोइ ॥२॥

sadaa sadaa kar chaakree parabh saahib sachaa so-ay. ||2||

Forever and ever, work for God; He is our True Lord and Master. ||2||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਕਟੀਐ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸ ॥ (44)

साधसंगति होइ निरमला कटीऐ जम की फास ॥

saaDhsangat ho-ay nirmalaa katee-ai jam kee faas.

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall become absolutely pure, and the noose of death shall be cut away.

ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥ (44)

सुखदाता भै भंजनो तिसु आगै करि अरदासि ॥

sukh-daata bhai bhanjno tis aagai kar ardaas.

So offer your prayers to Him, the Giver of Peace, the Destroyer of fear.

ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੩॥ (44)

मिहर करे जिसु मिहरवानु तां कारजु आवै रासि ॥३॥

mihar karay jis miharvaan taaN kaaraj aavai raas. ||3||

Showing His Mercy, the Merciful Master shall resolve your affairs. ||3||

ਬਹੁਤੋ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਥਾਉ ॥ (44)

बहुतो बहुतु वखाणीऐ ऊचो ऊचा थाउ ॥

bahuto bahut vakhaanee-ai oocho oochaa thaa-o.

The Lord is said to be the Greatest of the Great; His Kingdom is the Highest of the High.

ਵਰਨਾ ਚਿਹਨਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਉ ॥ (44)

वरना चिहना बाहरा कीमति कहि न सकाउ ॥

varnaa chihnaa baahraa keemat kahi na sakaa-o.

He has no color or mark; His Value cannot be estimated.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਅਪੁਣਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੪॥੭॥੭੭॥ (44)

नानक कउ प्रभ मइआ करि सचु देवहु अपुणा नाउ ॥४॥७॥७७॥

naanak ka-o parabh ma-i-aa kar sach dayvhu apunaa naa-o. ||4||7||77||

Please show Mercy to Nanak, God, and bless him with Your True Name. ||4||7||77||

ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ (44)

नामु धिआए सो सुखी तिसु मुखु ऊजलु होइ ॥

naam Dhi-aa-ay so sukhee tis mukh oojal ho-ay.

One who meditates on the Naam is at peace; his face is radiant and bright.

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਸਭਨੀ ਲੋਇ ॥ (44)

पूरे गुर ते पाईऐ परगटु सभनी लोइ ॥

pooray gur tay paa-ee-ai pargat sabhnee lo-ay.

Obtaining it from the Perfect Guru, he is honored all over the world.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਏਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ (44)

साधसंगति कै घरि वसै एको सचा सोइ ॥१॥

saaDhsangat kai ghar vasai ayko sachaa so-ay. ||1||

In the Company of the Holy, the One True Lord comes to abide within the home of the self. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ (45)

मेरे मन हरि हरि नामु धिआइ ॥

mayray man har har naam Dhi-aa-ay.

O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਹਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਆਗੈ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (45)

नामु सहाई सदा संगि आगै लए छडाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

naam sahaa-ee sadaa sang aagai la-ay chhadaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

The Naam is your Companion; it shall always be with you. It shall save you in the world hereafter. ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਨੀਆ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਕਵਨੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਾਮਿ ॥ (45)

दुनीआ कीआ वडिआईआ कवनै आवहि कामि ॥

dunee-aa kee-aa vadi-aa-ee-aa kavnai aavahi kaam.

What good is worldly greatness?

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਭੁ ਫਿਕਾ ਜਾਤੋ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥ (45)

माइआ का रंगु सभु फिका जातो बिनसि निदानि ॥

maa-i-aa kaa rang sabh fikaa jaato binas nidaan.

All the pleasures of Maya are tasteless and insipid. In the end, they shall all fade away.

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ (45)

जा कै हिरदै हरि वसै सो पूरा परधानु ॥२॥

jaa kai hirdai har vasai so pooraa parDhaan. ||2||

Perfectly fulfilled and supremely acclaimed is the one, in whose heart the Lord abides. ||2||

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਹੋਹੁ ਰੇਣੁਕਾ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਤਿਆਗਿ ॥ (45)

साधू की होहु रेणुका अपणा आपु तिआगि ॥

saaDhoo kee hohu raynukaa apnaa aap ti-aag.

Become the dust of the Saints; renounce your selfishness and conceit.

ਉਪਾਵ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਸਗਲ ਛਡਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥ (45)

उपाव सिआणप सगल छडि गुर की चरणी लागु ॥

upaav si-aanap sagal chhad gur kee charnee laag.

Give up all your schemes and your clever mental tricks, and fall at the Feet of the Guru.

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੩॥ (45)

तिसहि परापति रतनु होइ जिसु मसतकि होवै भागु ॥३॥

tiseh paraapat ratan ho-ay jis mastak hovai bhaag. ||3||

He alone receives the Jewel, upon whose forehead such wondrous destiny is written. ||3||

ਤਿਸੈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ (45)

तिसै परापति भाईहो जिसु देवै प्रभु आपि ॥

tisai paraapat bhaa-eeho jis dayvai parabh aap.

O Siblings of Destiny, it is received only when God Himself bestows it.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਾਪੁ ॥ (45)

सतिगुर की सेवा सो करे जिसु बिनसै हउमै तापु ॥

satgur kee sayvaa so karay jis binsai ha-umai taap.

People serve the True Guru only when the fever of egotism has been eradicated.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਤਾਪ ॥੪॥੮॥੭੮॥ (45)

नानक कउ गुरु भेटिआ बिनसे सगल संताप ॥४॥८॥७८॥

naanak ka-o gur bhayti-aa binsay sagal santaap. ||4||8||78||

Nanak has met the Guru; all his sufferings have come to an end. ||4||8||78||

ਇਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੂ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਇਕੋ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ (45)

इकु पछाणू जीअ का इको रखणहारु ॥

ik pachhaanoo jee-a kaa iko rakhanhaar.

The One is the Knower of all beings; He alone is our Savior.

ਇਕਸ ਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਸਰਾ ਇਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥ (45)

इकस का मनि आसरा इको प्राण अधारु ॥

ikas kaa man aasraa iko paraan aDhaar.

The One is the Support of the mind; the One is the Support of the breath of life.

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ (45)

तिसु सरणाई सदा सुखु पारब्रहमु करतारु ॥१॥

tis sarnaa-ee sadaa sukh paarbarahm kartaar. ||1||

In His Sanctuary there is eternal peace. He is the Supreme Lord God, the Creator. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਿਆਗੁ ॥ (45)

मन मेरे सगल उपाव तिआगु ॥

man mayray sagal upaav ti-aag.

O my mind, give up all these efforts.

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨਿਤ ਇਕਸੁ ਕੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (45)

गुरु पूरा आराधि नित इकसु की लिव लागु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

gur pooraa aaraaDh nit ikas kee liv laag. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Dwell upon the Perfect Guru each day, and attach yourself to the One Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਇਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਮਿਤੁ ਇਕੁ ਇਕੋ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ॥ (45)

इको भाई मितु इकु इको मात पिता ॥

iko bhaa-ee mit ik iko maat pitaa.

The One is my Brother, the One is my Friend. The One is my Mother and Father.

ਇਕਸ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ॥ (45)

इकस की मनि टेक है जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता ॥

ikas kee man tayk hai jin jee-o pind ditaa.

The One is the Support of the mind; He has given us body and soul.

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਤਾ ॥੨॥ (45)

सो प्रभु मनहु न विसरै जिनि सभु किछु वसि कीता ॥२॥

so parabh manhu na visrai jin sabh kichh vas keetaa. ||2||

May I never forget God from my mind; He holds all in the Power of His Hands. ||2||

ਘਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਆਪਿ ॥ (45)

घरि इको बाहरि इको थान थनंतरि आपि ॥

ghar iko baahar iko thaan thanantar aap.

The One is within the home of the self, and the One is outside as well. He Himself is in all places and interspaces.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਪਿ ॥ (45)

जीअ जंत सभि जिनि कीए आठ पहर तिसु जापि ॥

jee-a jant sabh jin kee-ay aath pahar tis jaap.

Meditate twenty-four hours a day on the One who created all beings and creatures.

ਇਕਸੁ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਸੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੩॥ (45)

इकसु सेती रतिआ न होवी सोग संतापु ॥३॥

ikas saytee rati-aa na hovee sog santaap. ||3||

Attuned to the Love of the One, there is no sorrow or suffering. ||3||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ (45)

पारब्रहमु प्रभु एकु है दूजा नाही कोइ ॥

paarbarahm parabh ayk hai doojaa naahee ko-ay.

There is only the One Supreme Lord God; there is no other at all.

ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ (45)

जीउ पिंडु सभु तिस का जो तिसु भावै सु होइ ॥

jee-o pind sabh tis kaa jo tis bhaavai so ho-ay.

Soul and body all belong to Him; whatever pleases His Will come to pass.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਭਇਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੭੯॥ (45)

गुरि पूरै पूरा भइआ जपि नानक सचा सोइ ॥४॥९॥७९॥

gur poorai pooraa bha-i-aa jap naanak sachaa so-ay. ||4||9||79||

Through the Perfect Guru, one becomes perfect; O Nanak, meditate on the True One. ||4||9||79||

जिना सतिगुर सिउ चितु लाइआ से पूरे परधान ॥

jinaa satgur si-o chit laa-i-aa say pooray parDhaan.

Those who focus their consciousness on the True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and famous.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਨ ਉਪਜੈ ਮਨਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ (45)

जिन कउ आपि दइआलु होइ तिन उपजै मनि गिआनु ॥

jin ka-o aap da-i-aal ho-ay tin upjai man gi-aan.

Spiritual wisdom wells up in the minds of those unto whom the Lord Himself shows Mercy.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ (45)

जिन कउ मसतकि लिखिआ तिन पाइआ हरि नामु ॥१॥

jin ka-o mastak likhi-aa tin paa-i-aa har naam. ||1||

Those who have such destiny written upon their foreheads obtain the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ (45)

मन मेरे एको नामु धिआइ ॥

man mayray ayko naam Dhi-aa-ay.

O my mind, meditate on the Name of the One Lord.

ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਸੁਖ ਊਪਜਹਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (45)

सरब सुखा सुख ऊपजहि दरगह पैधा जाइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

sarab sukhaa sukh oopjahi dargeh paiDhaa jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

The happiness of all happiness shall well up, and in the Court of the Lord, you shall be dressed in robes of honor. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ (45)

जनम मरण का भउ गइआ भाउ भगति गोपाल ॥

janam maran kaa bha-o ga-i-aa bhaa-o bhagat gopaal.

The fear of death and rebirth is removed by performing loving devotional service to the Lord of the World.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥ (45)

साधू संगति निरमला आपि करे प्रतिपाल ॥

saaDhoo sangat nirmalaa aap karay partipaal.

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one becomes immaculate and pure; the Lord Himself takes care of such a one.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥ (45)

जनम मरण की मलु कटीऐ गुर दरसनु देखि निहाल ॥२॥

janam maran kee mal katee-ai gur darsan daykh nihaal. ||2||

The filth of birth and death is washed away, and one is uplifted, beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan. ||2||

ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ (45)

थान थनंतरि रवि रहिआ पारब्रहमु प्रभु सोइ ॥

thaan thanantar rav rahi-aa paarbarahm parabh so-ay.

The Supreme Lord God is pervading all places and interspaces.

ਸਭਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ (45)

सभना दाता एकु है दूजा नाही कोइ ॥

sabhnaa daataa ayk hai doojaa naahee ko-ay.

The One is the Giver of all-there is no other at all.

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਕੀਤਾ ਲੋੜੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ (45)

तिसु सरणाई छुटीऐ कीता लोड़े सु होइ ॥३॥

tis sarnaa-ee chhutee-ai keetaa lorhay so ho-ay. ||3||

In His Sanctuary, one is saved. Whatever He wishes, comes to pass. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪਰਧਾਨ ॥ (45)

जिन मनि वसिआ पारब्रहमु से पूरे परधान ॥

jin man vasi-aa paarbarahm say pooray parDhaan.

Perfectly fulfilled and famous are those, in whose minds the Supreme Lord God abides.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲੀ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਭਈ ਜਹਾਨ ॥ (45)

तिन की सोभा निरमली परगटु भई जहान ॥

tin kee sobhaa nirmalee pargat bha-ee jahaan.

Their reputation is spotless and pure; they are famous all over the world.

ਜਿਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੮੦॥ (45)

जिनी मेरा प्रभु धिआइआ नानक तिन कुरबान ॥४॥१०॥८०॥

jinee mayraa parabh Dhi-aa-i-aa naanak tin kurbaan. ||4||10||80||

O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who meditate on my God. ||4||10||80||

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ (46)

मिलि सतिगुर सभु दुखु गइआ हरि सुखु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥

mil satgur sabh dukh ga-i-aa har sukh vasi-aa man aa-ay.

Meeting the True Guru, all my sufferings have ended, and the Peace of the Lord has come to dwell within my mind.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀਆ ਏਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ (46)

अंतरि जोति प्रगासीआ एकसु सिउ लिव लाइ ॥

antar jot pargaasee-aa aykas si-o liv laa-ay.

The Divine Light illuminates my inner being, and I am lovingly absorbed in the One.

ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਇ ॥ (46)

मिलि साधू मुखु ऊजला पूरबि लिखिआ पाइ ॥

mil saaDhoo mukh oojlaa poorab likhi-aa paa-ay.

Meeting with the Holy Saint, my face is radiant; I have realized my pre-ordained destiny.

ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ (46)

गुण गोविंद नित गावणे निरमल साचै नाइ ॥१॥

gun govind nit gaavnay nirmal saachai naa-ay. ||1||

I constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. Through the True Name, I have become spotlessly pure. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ (46)

मेरे मन गुर सबदी सुखु होइ ॥

mayray man gur sabdee sukh ho-ay.

O my mind, you shall find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (46)

गुर पूरे की चाकरी बिरथा जाइ न कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

gur pooray kee chaakree birthaa jaa-ay na ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Working for the Perfect Guru, no one goes away empty-handed. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾਂ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ (46)

मन कीआ इछां पूरीआ पाइआ नामु निधानु ॥

man kee-aa ichhaaN pooree-aa paa-i-aa naam niDhaan.

The desires of the mind are fulfilled, when the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained.

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥ (46)

अंतरजामी सदा संगि करणैहारु पछानु ॥

antarjaamee sadaa sang karnaihaar pachhaan.

The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is always with you; recognize Him as the Creator.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲਾ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥ (46)

गुर परसादी मुखु ऊजला जपि नामु दानु इसनानु ॥

gur parsaadee mukh oojlaa jap naam daan isnaan.

By Guru's Grace, your face shall be radiant. Chanting the Naam, you shall receive the benefits of giving charity and taking cleansing baths.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਤਜਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ (46)

कामु क्रोधु लोभु बिनसिआ तजिआ सभु अभिमानु ॥२॥

kaam kroDh lobh binsi-aa taji-aa sabh abhimaan. ||2||

Sexual desire, anger and greed are eliminated, and all egotistical pride is abandoned. ||2||

ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਏ ਕਾਮ ॥ (46)

पाइआ लाहा लाभु नामु पूरन होए काम ॥

paa-i-aa laahaa laabh naam pooran ho-ay kaam.

The Profit of the Naam is obtained, and all affairs are brought to fruition.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲਿਆ ਦੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ (46)

करि किरपा प्रभि मेलिआ दीआ अपणा नामु ॥

kar kirpaa parabh mayli-aa dee-aa apnaa naam.

In His Mercy, God unites us with Himself, and He blesses us with the Naam.

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਇਆ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨੁ ॥ (46)

आवण जाणा रहि गइआ आपि होआ मिहरवानु ॥

aavan jaanaa reh ga-i-aa aap ho-aa miharvaan.

My comings and goings in reincarnation have come to an end; He Himself has bestowed His Mercy.

ਸਚੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥੩॥ (46)

सचु महलु घरु पाइआ गुर का सबदु पछानु ॥३॥

sach mahal ghar paa-i-aa gur kaa sabad pachhaan. ||3||

I have obtained my home in the True Mansion of His Presence, realizing the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||3||

ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਰਾਖਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ (46)

भगत जना कउ राखदा आपणी किरपा धारि ॥

bhagat janaa ka-o raakh-daa aapnee kirpaa Dhaar.

His humble devotees are protected and saved; He Himself showers His Blessings upon us.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਿ ॥ (46)

हलति पलति मुख ऊजले साचे के गुण सारि ॥

halat palat mukh oojlay saachay kay gun saar.

In this world and in the world hereafter, radiant are the faces of those who cherish and enshrine the Glories of the True Lord."

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰਦੇ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ (46)

आठ पहर गुण सारदे रते रंगि अपार ॥

aath pahar gun saarday ratay rang apaar.

Twenty-four hours a day, they lovingly dwell upon His Glories; they are imbued with His Infinite Love.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੮੧॥ (46)

पारब्रहमु सुख सागरो नानक सद बलिहार ॥४॥११॥८१॥

paarbarahm sukh saagro naanak sad balihaar. ||4||11||81||

Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Supreme Lord God, the Ocean of Peace. ||4||11||81||

पूरा सतिगुरु जे मिलै पाईऐ सबदु निधानु ॥

pooraa satgur jay milai paa-ee-ai sabad niDhaan.

If we meet the Perfect True Guru, we obtain the Treasure of the Shabad.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ (46)

करि किरपा प्रभ आपणी जपीऐ अम्रित नामु ॥

kar kirpaa parabh aapnee japee-ai amrit naam.

Please grant Your Grace, God, that we may meditate on Your Ambrosial Naam.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੀਐ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ (46)

जनम मरण दुखु काटीऐ लागै सहजि धिआनु ॥१॥

janam maran dukh kaatee-ai laagai sahj Dhi-aan. ||1||

The pains of birth and death are taken away; we are intuitively centered on His Meditation. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥ (46)

मेरे मन प्रभ सरणाई पाइ ॥

mayray man parabh sarnaa-ee paa-ay.

O my mind, seek the Sanctuary of God.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (46)

हरि बिनु दूजा को नही एको नामु धिआइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

har bin doojaa ko nahee ayko naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Without the Lord, there is no other at all. Meditate on the One and only Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣੀ ਅਥਾਹੁ ॥ (46)

कीमति कहणु न जाईऐ सागरु गुणी अथाहु ॥

keemat kahan na jaa-ee-ai saagar gunee athaahu.

His Value cannot be estimated; He is the Vast Ocean of Excellence.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਿਲੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਿਸਾਹੁ ॥ (46)

वडभागी मिलु संगती सचा सबदु विसाहु ॥

vadbhaagee mil sangtee sachaa sabad visaahu.

O most fortunate ones, join the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation; purchase the True Word of the Shabad.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੨॥ (46)

करि सेवा सुख सागरै सिरि साहा पातिसाहु ॥२॥

kar sayvaa sukh saagrai sir saahaa paatisaahu. ||2||

Serve the Lord, the Ocean of Peace, the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors. ||2||

ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਕਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥ (46)

चरण कमल का आसरा दूजा नाही ठाउ ॥

charan kamal kaa aasraa doojaa naahee thaa-o.

I take the Support of the Lord's Lotus Feet; there is no other place of rest for me.

ਮੈ ਧਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (46)

मै धर तेरी पारब्रहम तेरै ताणि रहाउ ॥

mai Dhar tayree paarbarahm tayrai taan rahaa-o.

I lean upon You as my Support, O Supreme Lord God. I exist only by Your Power.

ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਾਣੁ ਤੂੰ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥ (46)

निमाणिआ प्रभु माणु तूं तेरै संगि समाउ ॥३॥

nimaani-aa parabh maan tooN tayrai sang samaa-o. ||3||

O God, You are the Honor of the dishonored. I seek to merge with You. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥ (46)

हरि जपीऐ आराधीऐ आठ पहर गोविंदु ॥

har japee-ai aaraaDhee-ai aath pahar govind.

Chant the Lord's Name and contemplate the Lord of the World, twenty-four hours a day.

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥ (46)

जीअ प्राण तनु धनु रखे करि किरपा राखी जिंदु ॥

jee-a paraan tan Dhan rakhay kar kirpaa raakhee jind.

He preserves our soul, our breath of life, body and wealth. By His Grace, He protects our soul.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੋਖ ਉਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੮੨॥ (46)

नानक सगले दोख उतारिअनु प्रभु पारब्रहम बखसिंदु ॥४॥१२॥८२॥

naanak saglay dokh utaari-an parabh paarbarahm bakhsind. ||4||12||82||

O Nanak, all pain has been washed away, by the Supreme Lord God, the Forgiver. ||4||12||82||

प्रीति लगी तिसु सच सिउ मरै न आवै जाइ ॥

pareet lagee tis sach si-o marai na aavai jaa-ay.

I have fallen in love with the True Lord. He does not die, He does not come and go.

ਨਾ ਵੇਛੋੜਿਆ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ (46)

ना वेछोड़िआ विछुड़ै सभ महि रहिआ समाइ ॥

naa vaychhorhi-aa vichhurhai sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ay.

In separation, He is not separated from us; He is pervading and permeating amongst all.

ਦੀਨ ਦਰਦ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਸਤ ਭਾਇ ॥ (46)

दीन दरद दुख भंजना सेवक कै सत भाइ ॥

deen darad dukh bhanjnaa sayvak kai sat bhaa-ay.

He is the Destroyer of the pain and suffering of the meek. He bears True Love for His servants.

ਅਚਰਜ ਰੂਪੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੋ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ (46)

अचरज रूपु निरंजनो गुरि मेलाइआ माइ ॥१॥

achraj roop niranjano gur maylaa-i-aa maa-ay. ||1||

Wondrous is the Form of the Immaculate One. Through the Guru, I have met Him, O my mother! ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਮੀਤੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ (46)

भाई रे मीतु करहु प्रभु सोइ ॥

bhaa-ee ray meet karahu parabh so-ay.

O Siblings of Destiny, make God your Friend.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (47)

माइआ मोह परीति ध्रिगु सुखी न दीसै कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

maa-i-aa moh pareet Dharig sukhee na deesai ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Cursed is emotional attachment and love of Maya; no one is seen to be at peace. ||1||Pause||

ਦਾਨਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ (47)

दाना दाता सीलवंतु निरमलु रूपु अपारु ॥

daanaa daataa seelvant nirmal roop apaar.

God is Wise, Giving, Tender-hearted, Pure, Beautiful and Infinite.

ਸਖਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਅਤਿ ਵਡਾ ਊਚਾ ਵਡਾ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ (47)

सखा सहाई अति वडा ऊचा वडा अपारु ॥

sakhaa sahaa-ee at vadaa oochaa vadaa apaar.

He is our Companion and Helper, Supremely Great, Lofty and Utterly Infinite.

ਬਾਲਕੁ ਬਿਰਧਿ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਦਰਵਾਰੁ ॥ (47)

बालकु बिरधि न जाणीऐ निहचलु तिसु दरवारु ॥

baalak biraDh na jaanee-ai nihchal tis darvaar.

He is not known as young or old; His Court is Steady and Stable.

ਜੋ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਧਾਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ (47)

जो मंगीऐ सोई पाईऐ निधारा आधारु ॥२॥

jo mangee-ai so-ee paa-ee-ai niDhaaraa aaDhaar. ||2||

Whatever we seek from Him, we receive. He is the Support of the unsupported. ||2||

ਜਿਸੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਹਿਰਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥ (47)

जिसु पेखत किलविख हिरहि मनि तनि होवै सांति ॥

jis paykhat kilvikh hireh man tan hovai saaNt.

Seeing Him, our evil inclinations vanish; mind and body become peaceful and tranquil.

ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਏਕੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਲਾਹਿ ਭਰਾਂਤਿ ॥ (47)

इक मनि एकु धिआईऐ मन की लाहि भरांति ॥

ik man ayk Dhi-aa-ee-ai man kee laahi bharaaNt.

With one-pointed mind, meditate on the One Lord, and the doubts of your mind will be dispelled.

ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਨਵਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥ (47)

गुण निधानु नवतनु सदा पूरन जा की दाति ॥

gun niDhaan navtan sadaa pooran jaa kee daat.

He is the Treasure of Excellence, the Ever-fresh Being. His Gift is Perfect and Complete.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਰਾਧੀਐ ਦਿਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੩॥ (47)

सदा सदा आराधीऐ दिनु विसरहु नही राति ॥३॥

sadaa sadaa aaraaDhee-ai din visrahu nahee raat. ||3||

Forever and ever, worship and adore Him. Day and night, do not forget Him. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਖਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥ (47)

जिन कउ पूरबि लिखिआ तिन का सखा गोविंदु ॥

jin ka-o poorab likhi-aa tin kaa sakhaa govind.

One whose destiny is so pre-ordained, obtains the Lord of the Universe as his Companion.

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪੀ ਸਭੋ ਸਗਲ ਵਾਰੀਐ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥ (47)

तनु मनु धनु अरपी सभो सगल वारीऐ इह जिंदु ॥

tan man Dhan arpee sabho sagal vaaree-ai ih jind.

I dedicate my body, mind, wealth and all to Him. I totally sacrifice my soul to Him.

ਦੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਸਦ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਰਵਿੰਦੁ ॥ (47)

देखै सुणै हदूरि सद घटि घटि ब्रहमु रविंदु ॥

daykhai sunai hadoor sad ghat ghat barahm ravind.

Seeing and hearing, He is always close at hand. In each and every heart, God is pervading.

ਅਕਿਰਤਘਣਾ ਨੋ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੮੩॥ (47)

अकिरतघणा नो पालदा प्रभ नानक सद बखसिंदु ॥४॥१३॥८३॥

akirat-ghanaa no paaldaa parabh naanak sad bakhsind. ||4||13||83||

Even the ungrateful ones are cherished by God. O Nanak, He is forever the Forgiver. ||4||13||83||

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਦੀਆ ਰਖਿਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ (47)

मनु तनु धनु जिनि प्रभि दीआ रखिआ सहजि सवारि ॥

man tan Dhan jin parabh dee-aa rakhi-aa sahj savaar.

This mind, body and wealth were given by God, who naturally adorns us.

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ (47)

सरब कला करि थापिआ अंतरि जोति अपार ॥

sarab kalaa kar thaapi-aa antar jot apaar.

He has blessed us with all our energy, and infused His Infinite Light deep within us.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਖੁ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ (47)

सदा सदा प्रभु सिमरीऐ अंतरि रखु उर धारि ॥१॥

sadaa sadaa parabh simree-ai antar rakh ur Dhaar. ||1||

Forever and ever, meditate in remembrance on God; keep Him enshrined in your heart. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ (47)

मेरे मन हरि बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥

mayray man har bin avar na ko-ay.

O my mind, without the Lord, there is no other at all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ (47)

प्रभ सरणाई सदा रहु दूखु न विआपै कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

parabh sarnaa-ee sadaa rahu dookh na vi-aapai ko-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Remain in God's Sanctuary forever, and no suffering shall afflict you. ||1||Pause||

ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਾਣਕਾ ਸੁਇਨਾ ਰੁਪਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥ (47)

रतन पदारथ माणका सुइना रुपा खाकु ॥

ratan padaarath maankaa su-inaa rupaa khaak.

Jewels, treasures, pearls, gold and silver-all these are just dust.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪਾ ਕੂੜੇ ਸਭੇ ਸਾਕ ॥ (47)

मात पिता सुत बंधपा कूड़े सभे साक ॥

maat pitaa sut banDhpaa koorhay sabhay saak.

Mother, father, children and relatives-all relations are false.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਸੁ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੨॥ (47)

जिनि कीता तिसहि न जाणई मनमुख पसु नापाक ॥२॥

jin keetaa tiseh na jaan-ee manmukh pas naapaak. ||2||

The self-willed manmukh is an insulting beast; he does not acknowledge the One who created him. ||2||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ (47)

अंतरि बाहरि रवि रहिआ तिस नो जाणै दूरि ॥

antar baahar rav rahi-aa tis no jaanai door.

The Lord is pervading within and beyond, and yet people think that He is far away.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੀ ਰਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕੂਰਿ ॥ (47)

त्रिसना लागी रचि रहिआ अंतरि हउमै कूरि ॥

tarisnaa laagee rach rahi-aa antar ha-umai koor.

They are engrossed in clinging desires; within their hearts there is ego and falsehood.

ਭਗਤੀ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਆਵਹਿ ਵੰਞਹਿ ਪੂਰ ॥੩॥ (47)

भगती नाम विहूणिआ आवहि वंञहि पूर ॥३॥

bhagtee naam vihooni-aa aavahi vanjahi poor. ||3||

Without devotion to the Naam, crowds of people come and go. ||3||

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਣਹਾਰ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ॥ (47)

राखि लेहु प्रभु करणहार जीअ जंत करि दइआ ॥

raakh layho parabh karanhaar jee-a jant kar da-i-aa.

Please preserve Your beings and creatures, God; O Creator Lord, please be merciful!

ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਖਨਹਾਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਜਮ ਭਇਆ ॥ (47)

बिनु प्रभ कोइ न रखनहारु महा बिकट जम भइआ ॥

bin parabh ko-ay na rakhanhaar mahaa bikat jam bha-i-aa.

Without God, there is no saving grace. The Messenger of Death is cruel and unfeeling.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰਉ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਮਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੪॥੮੪॥ (47)

नानक नामु न वीसरउ करि अपुनी हरि मइआ ॥४॥१४॥८४॥

naanak naam na veesra-o kar apunee har ma-i-aa. ||4||14||84||

O Nanak, may I never forget the Naam! Please bless me with Your Mercy, Lord! ||4||14||84||
