Wakakirri Final – What a night! - Mrs Rosebery

Arncliffe Public School students recently performed in the Wakakirri Final at Homebush Olympic Park Stadium (right next door to the Pink Concert). What a big stage! What a big venue! What a big night!

Congratulations to the cast of “You Are Not Alone”. You raised the bar yet again with an exceptional performance. We were awarded certificates for The Best “Original Story Dance” and The Best “Public Speakers”. A big shout out to Latifa, Rayyan and Jasper, who only got their material to practice the day before.

The judges gave a special mention to Pheobe and Alexander for their emotional commitment to their characters. I know that many of us felt the hairs on the back of our necks stand up in empathy with these characters. Indeed, I applaud the dramatic skills of the whole cast. They stayed in character throughout and added balance and meaning to the protagonists.

I must say that it was very difficult for me to concentrate on the lighting cues when I was so busy melting with pride…along with all the parents, teachers and friends. The students inspired me with their enthusiasm and co-operation and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of their journey on this Story Dance Challenge. It was a labour of love.

Last, but not least, a HUGE thank you to Ms. Tosevska and Ms. Meitreski for keeping your children happy and safe all day and night. Thanks again to everyone involved in getting us to the Wakakirri Finals.

Performance Awards: Excellent Lead Dance, Excellent Solo Dance, Excellent Construction and Clarity, Excellent Individual Acting, Excellent Ensemble, Best Backstage Crew

State Awards: Best Original Story Award, Performing at Awards Night

Senior Choir perform at the Opera House - Zara S and Jude K

On Monday 24th September the Senior Choir went to perform at the Sydney Opera House in the amazing concert hall, as part of the Festival of Choral Music. It was a truly amazing experience that we will never forget. We sang 11 songs and some of our favourites were “Arlington”, a beautiful song about a bird and also we cannot forget the beginning song “The Second Star to the Right” from Return to Neverland.

At the end of the performance they let out big confetti cannons! It was fantastic! We would like to thank the school for letting us perform in this event. A special thank you to Mr Olofsson for preparing us and to Mrs Mores and Ms Junee for taking us. We also thank our families for watching us and supporting us. We think that we did it very beautifully.

Wakakirri People’s Choice Award – Please Vote and Share!

Stage 2 Choir perform at Town Hall - Adele S and Oliver K

Stage 2 Choir had lots of fun last week. We went on a train to Town Hall, where we practiced singing our songs for the Primary Proms performance. We had lunch and recess there - and even dinner! Miss Mores and Miss Azmy bought us some hot chips! But the best part of the day was the performance after dinner. The music sounded beautiful.

There were lots of kids singing together in two parts- soprano and alto. We had a wonderful time. It felt really good singing with the other schools and listening to the other performances. Ian Jefferson, one of the conductors, wrote songs especially for us to sing, and I think we did amazingly.

A special thank you to Mrs Mores for preparing us for the performance, we hope we have the opportunity to go again next year.

A-Factor – All welcome! Come and celebrate the end of term watching A-Factor – our annual celebration of talent and entertainment.

Plus there will be a surprise performance!

A-Factor will be held in the hall this Friday 28 September from 1.40pm.

And lastly… Invoices for Term 4 will be emailed during the holiday and payment will be due by Monday 22nd October (Term 4, Week 2).

Thank you all for a fabulous Term 3, we are very excited for our final term for 2018!

Instrumental Music Program News Thank you to all the parents who made time to attend the music meeting last Friday. The main agenda item was enrolments and the proposed fee increase for 2019.

Music fees cover conductors' costs and sheet music and are essential to the running of a successful music program. Our current fees have remained unchanged since the program first started in 2011 and it was agreed at the meeting that they will increase for the first time in 2019 to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the program.

Term fees will be increasing to $95 for Term 1 and $75 per term for Terms 2, 3 & 4. If fees are paid upfront in one payment for the year, then a $20 discount will be provided making the overall annual increase $40.

A huge thank you to all the parent helpers and sub-committee members who volunteer their time and enable us to keep operating costs down to make the music program accessible to all our families

Parent Code of Conduct Parent Code of Conduct A communication charter for all NSW Public School Communities

Expectations of behavior The rights and responsibilities of school communities

Parents/caregivers expect they will: • Be acknowledged and treated with respect by school staff, with consideration for

their diverse experiences and backgrounds • Treat other parents, students and members of the school community with respect • Demonstrate consideration and appreciation for the school’s time and resources

NSW Public Schools expect that: • Parents and the community prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all students and

staff • Staff at the school will be treated with professionalism, consideration and respect • Parents and the community will be prompt and well prepared for any meetings or

consultations • Parents with complaints will first approach the school and follow due process • Parents and the community will behave appropriately

Unacceptable behaviours may include but not limited to: • Aggressive or intimidating actions – e.g. violence, threatening gestures, physical

proximity • Aggressive or intimidating language, including the use of obscenities, making sexist,

racist or derogatory comments, using a rude or angry tone • Vexatious and time-wasting communication to the school • Failing to observe the established routine (protocols) of the school – e.g. the use of a

scheduled appointment to discuss concerns about their student or staff member • Treating members of the school community differently due to aspects such as their

religion or disability • Inappropriate use of social media or other forums to make complaints, or denigrate

school staff and/or students.

Safe and respective communication is a right The principal and the local Director, Educational Leadership are responsible for determining what constitutes acceptable behaviour. They will model and promote these actions, however where necessary may use a number of means to address unacceptable behaviour, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students and entire school community.

Optimal learning and development outcomes occur for all students when parents/caregivers, staff and students work in positive partnership.

The Parent Code of Conduct describes the expectations of behavior and interaction for all NSW Public School Communities. This includes students, school staff, parents/caregivers, community members and visitors to any school. It provides a clear set of expectations that ensure safe, respectful and engaged school communities.
