5. Start-up

The maximum permissible load resistance(RBmax) is calculated using the followingformula:

RBmax = Us – 14 V

22 mA

The maximum supply voltages (Us) are:• Bitop CPM 440 (non-Ex unit): 40 V• Bitop CPM 440 Z (Ex unit): 24 V

The minimum required supply voltage of thetransmitter power supply unit depends on theload resistance of the current loop.

6. Operation

6.1 General notes regardingoperation

The operating function of the instrument ismatrix-oriented, i.e. each function type of theunit corresponds to a matrix field positionfrom V0 / H0 to V9 / H9.

The individual operating functions are selectedvia the V (vertical) and H (horizontal) keys. These keys cycle through the matrix fields, including those which have not been assigned.

The functions of the matrix fields are grouped

into three different levels, depending on theirpurpose:

• Level 0: Measurementaccessible without code entry

• Level 1: Operationaccessible with code 111

• Level 2: Start-upaccessible with code 222

Without previous code entry, the content of theindividual matrix fields can only be displayed.Return to matrix field V0 / H0 (measuring) bypressing the V and H keys simultaneously.

Value entry and function selectionby key actuation:

• Value adjustment

• Digit selection:active digit flashes on display

• Accept values:Verification: A value has been

accepted when it isdisplayed continuously

Recall: → key

Note:When there has been an interruptionin operation, the unit automaticallyreturns to the indication andmeasurement mode of operation(V0 / H0).

6.5 pH measurement inhazardous areas

Versions of units identified by the letter Z (for"Zertifikat", i.e. certificate) are manufacturedand tested according to the unified Europeanregulations (CENELEC) for “Electricalequipment for areas subject to explosionhazard”.

Installation and operation are regulated bya comprehensive body of standards andregulations:

• “Regulation for electrical installations inhazardous areas” (Elex V)

• “Regulation for flammable liquids” (VbF)• “Equipment safety law” (GSG)• “Explosion guidelines of the BG-Chemie”

(EX-RL)

• “UVV: Electrical installations and equipment”

The 2-wire pH measuring transmitterBitop CPM 440 Z, constructed accordingto the regulations for EX devices, may beinstalled in Ex zone 1 (see chapter 9.2“Certificate of conformity”).

A measuring transmitter supply unit withan intrinsically safe supply current circuit(e.g. Endress+Hauser, type NY 9170Z) isrequired to supply power to the BitopCPM 440 Z (see chapter 9.1).

7. Error handling andmaintenance

7.1 Error handling

Faults occurring during operation areindicated in two ways:

• by a flashing status arrow on the measuredvalue display next to the horn symbol

• by increased supply current consumption(value = 22 mA) for different operatingconditions (see table below, )

The numbers of error codes can be shown inthe display by selecting the matrix fieldsV9 / H0 to V9 / H2.

No. MeaningMeasures for

error handling / maintenance

E00 No error detected, i.e.instrument fuctions are o.k. 1) None

E01 Calibration values out of range, i.e.

no recalibration(measurement with old values)

Repeat calibration andpossibly change sensor

E02 ∆-ref alarm occurs if the selectedmeasuring circuit difference is exceededon the 2-circuit unit, i.e.output current value = 22 mA 2)

Replace bridge electrolyte on thepH / Redox compact electrode systemSensopac CPA 320 and recalibrate;possibly replace sensor.

E03 Measuring range exceeded, i.e.current measured value shows on display;current output, however, at upper or lowerlimit

Check control circuit orsensor calibration.

E05 Current window too small, i.e.measuring continues with old parameters

Minimum ∆ pH for 4 … 20 mAmust be >2 pH.

E06 Temperature range exceeded, i.e.

indicated value = 106 °C andoutput current value = 22 mA 2) Check sensor or cable.

E70 EEPROM write error;measuring mode

Repeat operating sequence;hardware may be defective.

E80 Absolute ∆-ref value excessiveoutput current value = 22 mA 2) Replace double reference sensor.

E90 Measured value input out of range, i.e.output current value = 22 mA 2)

Check instrument wiring;hardware may be defective.

Notes:

1)

E00 will not appear in case of errors E01 to E99.

2) At the alarms E02, E06, E80 and E90, the current is set to the value 22 mA.Then the signal can be detected in a switchboard cabinet.
