Mission: Community Foundation of Ogden Valley is to improve the lives of Ogden Valley residents and

visitors through philanthropic leadership and community service

Purpose: To elevate philanthropic giving, nonprofit organizations in general and overall volunteerism in

our community.

•The issue is the eventual burnout of founding board members who continue to carry much of the

organization’s burden.

Case Methodology

To provide the following set of recommendations, the following methods and

data were utilized:

Board

•Board Committees – limit # and clarify roles

•Board succession – recruitment sources and

board # cap

•Board member requirements – create

board member agreement

•Mission – strategic plan and clarify change

•Grant Making/Accountability –

strengthen NPO’s w/reporting guidelines and capacity building

•Operations – new business model

w/reciprocal benefit/fees to invest in infrastructure

Recommendations

Staffing

•Hire a Director/ED ($35-$40K)

•Campus Compact Intern ($5,000)

•NPO/Interns (free/college credit)

•Charge an Administration Fee % of amount processed for

that NPO

•Audit (externally done)

•Physical Space

•Verify IRS has proper documentation

Recommendations

Events/$

•Develop a yearly giving plan

•Annual Event – Fancy Flannel Affair

•Endowment for sustainable funding

•Develop giving levels for sponsorships/naming/etc

•Set a specific giving amount for designated

•Empower NPO’s to do their own fundraising.

•Grant proposals for CFOV.

•Develop a NPO proposal vetting process with

reporting requirements.

Recommendations

1. Clarification of mission and strategic plan

(guiding for the future).

2. Refining relationships with currently funded

nonprofits and reciprocal benefit (ROI)

.

3. Build organizational capacity by capping the level of matching gifts (in total) they give out.

Next Steps

Biggest strength and opportunity is your organization has a huge talent pool and strong relationships with

the community at-large .

Do not be afraid to invest in your organization so it can sustain itself into the future.

This case study was great for this team because we were able to actually see the whole picture and

actually design a plan.

Founded in 1948 in response to workforce need for young nonprofit professionals

Mission: strengthen the social sector with a talented, prepared workforce

Build capacity for the sector by improving quality of the workforce
