Primavera 1944, un uomo camminava sulle montagne dell’Alpe di Catenaia. È un partigiano ma non porta né armi né viveri. Ha sulle spalle una macchina per cucire le scarpe. È il patrimonio

di una famiglia di ciabattini. Anzi, era. I tedeschi, alcuni giorni prima, l’avevano requisita. “Una spiata” ed il nascondiglio sotto uno forno per il pane era stato scoperto. Ma l’uomo non si era

arreso. Aveva seguito i tedeschi ed aveva agito come poi avrebbe sempre fatto nella sua vita: da uomo d’affari. Contro il soldato nemico non punta il fucile ma tutti i soldi che è riuscito a mettere

insieme e la macchina da cucire torna nelle sue mani. La carica in spalla e si avvia di corsa verso casa. Il pilota del caccia tedesco che improvvisamente vola sulla sua testa è all’oscuro della

transazione commerciale. Non solo: dall’alto scambia la macchina da cucire per un’arma ed inizia a sparare. L’uomo si salva. Così pure il patrimonio di famiglia. Finisce la guerra, inizia l’era di

Gustavo Soldini. Con i fratelli Giuseppe ed Ermenegildo ha iniziato la produzione di calzature nel 1945. Dopo aver salvato dai tedeschi la sua macchina da cucire, inizia da pioniere lavorando in

casa, andando a consegnare le scarpe a Firenze ed Arezzo in bicicletta e lavorando sempre dalle sei di mattina fino a notte fonda. Guardando le realtà più avanzate nel settore, come Vigevano, e

incominciando a comprare la prima macchina per lavorare le scarpe il ciabattino diventa imprenditore, la bottega artigianale si trasforma in industria. Dal 1952 il calzaturificio si stacca ben presto

dalla connotazione manifatturiera a carattere familiare per assumere una fisionomia industriale in linea con il rinnovamento in atto in quegli anni in Italia nel settore manifatturiero. La storia della

Soldini è esemplificativa di come l’industrializzazione possa cambiare un territorio ed una comunità, determinando sviluppo economico, sociale e urbanistico. Gustavo Soldini è stata una figura

particolare anche in relazione ai metodi di gestione dell’azienda e nei rapporti con i lavoratori e le organizzazioni sindacali. Gustavo Soldini ha lasciato la sua impronta nei territori di Subbiano,

Anghiari e Capolona. Ha avuto quindi un ruolo determinante nello sviluppo industriale e urbanistico di questi 3 paesi contribuendo in modo fondamentale a quello produttivo. Da una parte ha

trasformato il basso Casentino in un polo di livello nel settore calzaturiero, dall’altra ha dato un respiro industriale alla tradizione artigianale che già caratterizzava Anghiari. L’azienda Soldini, come

tutto il settore calzaturiero, conferma la costante e perdurante presenza dell’artigianato e della piccola e media impresa nel processo produttivo italiano che segnerà il grande sviluppo industriale

del nostro paese. Il Calzaturificio Soldini è stato tra i primi brand italiani a guardare al mercato internazionale dove velocemente consolida la proprio fama con una solida rete distributiva intuendo

Calzaturifici Italiani) dove all’interno ha avuto sempre l’incarico delle relazioni sindacali nei momenti più difficili del rapporto con il sindacato. Nel 1998 ha lasciato, e tale incarico è stato dato

dalla Giunta Esecutiva al figlio Rossano che successivamente è stato eletto Presidente dell’Associazione dal 2003 al 2007. Gustavo Soldini ha lasciato alla famiglia, al territorio, ai colleghi e ai

produttori italiani di calzature un segno indelebile . Gustavo Soldini, coadiuvato dai figli negli ultimi trent’anni, ha lasciato in piena attività il calzaturificio a natura industriale sicuramente il più

vecchio d’Italia ancora operante con produzione italiana facendo del Made in Italy la sua bandiera.

Spring 1944. A man is walking on the mountains of Alpe di Catenaia. He is a partisan, but he is bringing no weapons nor food.

On his shoulders he has a sewing machine for shoes, it is the heritage of a family of cobblers. Actually, it was. The Germans

had requisitioned it some days before. A “tip-off”, and its hideout under a bread oven had been discovered. But the man did not

surrender. He followed the Germans and acted as he will always do for all his life: like a business man. Against the enemy soldier

he does not point the gun, but all the money he has been able to put together, and the sewing machine comes back into his hands.

He puts it on his shoulders and runs home. The fighter pilot flying suddenly over his head is not aware of the business transaction.

Even worse, from above he mistakes the sewing machine for a weapon, and starts shooting. The man escapes, as well as the

family heritage. The war comes to its end, Gustavo Soldini’s era begins. With his brothers Giuseppe and Ermenegildo he starts

producing footwear in 1945. After saving his sewing machine from the Germans, he starts as a pioneer working at home, going

by bicycle to deliver his shoes in Florence and Arezzo and working always from six o’clock in the morning until very late at night.

He looks at the most advanced realities in that industry, like Vigevano, and buys his first machine for making shoes. The cobbler

becomes an entrepreneur, the handcraft workshop is transformed into a factory. Since 1952 the shoe factory has detached itself

quickly from its manufacturing connotation with household character to take an industrial profile according to the ongoing renewal

in those years in Italy in the manufacturing field. The story of Soldini’s factory is illustrative of how industry can change a territory

and a community, leading to an economic, social and urban development. Gustavo Soldini has been a special person also with

regard to the company management and for his relationships with workers and Trade Unions. Gustavo Soldini has left his mark in

the areas of Subbiano, Anghiari and Capolona. He definitely had a decisive role in the industrial and urban development of these 3

villages, contributing basically to their productive growth. On one hand he transformed the lower part of the Casentino valley into

an important pole in footwear production, on the other hand he gave an industrial far-reaching character to the handcraft tradition

of Anghiari. The company Soldini, as the whole footwear sector, confirms the constant and enduring presence of handcraft and

of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Italian manufacturing process, which will mark the great industrial development

in our country. The Calzaturificio Soldini has been one of the first Italian brands to look at the international market, where it quickly consolidated its reputation with a solid distribution network,

understanding in advance the prestige of Made in Italy. It aims to qualify itself in creativity, research and continuous product innovation using the most advanced technologies and keeping the

handcraft style recognizable on Italian products, synonymous of excellence in all over the world. Gustavo Soldini established one of the major Italian shoe factories, which was able to get over the

crisis of the 80s, generated by the advent of the South-American production, and of the 90s, overcoming the very hard competition of emerging countries like China and Vietnam. Gustavo Soldini

was one of the founders of A.N.C.I. (National Association of Italian Shoe Factories), where he was always the person in charge of the relationships with the Trade Unions in the most difficult moments

of the negotiations with them. He left in 1998, and his appointment was given by the Executive Council to his son Rossano, who was later elected President of the Association from 2003 to 2007.

Gustavo Soldini left to his family, to the territory, to his colleagues and to Italian shoe manufacturers an ineffaceable trace. Gustavo Soldini, assisted by his sons during the last thirty years, left in

full activity the shoe factory, surely the oldest one in Italy still working with Italian manufacture and that made of “Made in Italy” its banner.

Printemps 1944, un homme se promenait dans les montagnes de l’Alpe di Catenaia. Il était un partisan, mais il ne portait pas d’arme ou de nourriture. Il épaulait une machine à coudre les

chaussures. Ceci était devenu le patrimoine d’une famille de cordonniers. Les Allemands, quelques jours auparavant, avaient réquisitionné la machine. “ Par un espion, la cache sous un

four à pain avait été découverte. Mais l’homme n’avait pas abandonné. Il avait suivi les Allemands et il avait agi comme il aurait toujours fait dans sa vie comme homme d’affaires. Contre

le soldat ennemi il n’avait pas pointé le pistolet, mais il avait réuni tout l’argent qu’il possédait et la machine à coudre retourna dans ses mains. Il la chargea sur l’épaule et se mit à courir

vers la maison. Un pilote d’avion de combat allemand qui volait au dessus de lui, ne sachant pas la transaction commerciale et prenant la machine à coudre pour une arme commence à tirer.

L’homme se sauve et ainsi le patrimoine de famille. La guerre se termine, et débute l’ère de Gustavo Soldini. Avec les frères Giuseppe et Ermenegildo, Gustavo commence la production de

chaussures en 1945. Après avoir sauvé sa machine à coudre des Allemands, il commence à travailler comme pionnier dans la maison, à livrer les chaussures à Florence et Arezzo en vélo et

travaillant toujours dès six heures du matin jusqu’à tard dans la nuit. En regardant la réalité la plus avancée de l’industrie comme Vigevano, et en achetant la première machine pour travailler

les chaussures, le cordonnier devient l’entrepreneur, la boutique artisanale se transforme en industrie. Depuis 1952, le fabriquant de chaussures se détache bientôt de la connotation de

la fabrication familiale pour prendre une physionomie industrielle en ligne avec le renouvellement en cours dans ces années en Italie dans le secteur manufacturier. L’histoire de la Soldini

est illustrative de la manière dont l’industrialisation peut changer un territoire et une communauté, entrainant un développement économique, social et urbain. Gustavo Soldini était une
