Why sub-Saharan Africa Africa enjoys a vast resource and large growing energy market

United States Government Power Africa (PA) Initiative: more than $14 billion in financial

support committed over five years to add 10,000+ megawatts of clean, efficient electricity

generation capacity in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

Vast untapped resources: sub-Saharan countries receive solar radiation in the range of 6-

8 kWh/m2/day, among the highest in the world.

Growing electricity demand: UNEP estimates the sub-Saharan region needs to install

7,000 MW of new generation capacity each year to meet demand forecasts.

Stable investment environment: In 2012, clean energy financing from development banks

broke the US$100 billion mark for the first time in history. Six of the ten fastest-growing

economies worldwide between 2000 and 2010 were sub-Saharan nations.

Sustainable Growth: PA countries Kenya and Ghana have feed-in tariffs (FiTs) for on-grid

solar, while Ethiopia and Nigeria are introducing them.

Worldwide Solar Success Companies and countries have experienced ups and downs in the worldwide clean energy race in recent years. For consumers, however, the clean energy race has been consistently positive, driving down prices and interjecting new renewable energy choices into a marketplace dominated by century-old technologies. Solar module prices fell 50-% in the past year, spurring deployment in 2012 of an unprecedented 29.7 GW of new capacity; 10 times the level recorded in 2007. For the first time in 2011 more then 1GW of solar energy systems were installed in the USA, for a total of 4.6GW

Solar is Faster to Market The rapid deployment makes solar an attractive solution for states and utilities scrambling to meet their renewable portfolio standards, and

keep up with increasing energy demand. This provides opportunity for investors and developers

Solar’s 6 Stages of Bankability The decisions a solar developer makes during project planning, construction

and operations will have a significant impact on a project’s risk and bankability.

The 6 Stages to Bankability

• Site and Project Assessment

• Design and Optimization

• Engineering and Procurement

• Construction and Commissioning

• Asset Management (Operations & Maintenance)

• Customer / Community Enablement

“Cowboys Stadium near Dallas, Texas, uses more

electricity than the total installed capacity of my country.”

Madam President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf President of Liberia

Liberia’s average daily solar radiation: • Wet season irradiation average: 4.0 - 5.0kWh/m2/day

• Dry season irradiation average: 5.0 - 6.0kWh/m2/day.

Liberia’s annual solar potential: • 246,447,094 MWh/year

• 110 (global ranking) Source: U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Environmental Responsibility

Clean Power Group Africa develops sensible, sustainable, and profitable clean solar energy generating power plants. We strive to preserve natural

environments by only utilizing low resource valued private lands, thus preserving farming, endangered habitat, flora and fauna.

"Today, being good stewards of our land, water and wildlife requires that we do everything we can to end our dependence on dirty energy, especially by moving aggressively to replace coal and oil with clean energy solutions … We will also have to build a number of large-scale clean energy projects, like the 700 MW Maricopa Sun project that we helped move forward in California."
