Dear Editor,On the Sunday before Christmas I found a St.Christopher necklace disk in Cromer, with amessage engraved on the reverse side.

I would very much like to return this item to itsoriginal owner and hope you could print this inthe Crab Tales, in order to nd this person? Please phone me on: 01263 512 088, if you candescribe the disk and the engraved message onreverse for its rightful return. It doesnt appearto have a monetary value, but I keep thinking

of someone who will be missing it now. This is the season of Good Will, and althoughIm not a religious person myself, I do respectthose who hold on to these tokens of faith thatmean so much to them and I want that personFOUND NOW, for the return of somethingthat means so much to them and the comfortthey can draw from it!

Dear Philip,Having just come across a copy of Crab TalesI thought I might take the opportunity to letsomeone know about the general run downappearance and feel of Cromer this year.

My wife & I have made a pilgrimage to Cromerevery year for many years and we particularlyenjoyed putting on what we considered to be

the best putting green in the country, with thelongish holes, well mown lawns, lovely owerbeds, views over the sea and interesting layout, all for (until a couple of years ago) 1.

With a mature friendly attendant too.

Last year showed a marked deterioration of thisfacility, but this year it seemed to have spreadthroughout the town.

As well as the putting green, (now an extortionate3 by the way)and all those nice things gone, but also, the park at the other end of town had

apparently been abandoned to the elements, thechurch gardens that used to be to be beautifullyplanted, now with wild owers that would bemore suited to the surrounding countryside.

A quick look at the market and pitch & putt didnothing to restore our faith either. What a shameto see a lovely resort in such a state.

On a good note, we did enjoy the pier showand a visit to the lifeboat station, and therewas an excellent tea shop run by someyoung girls, well worth a visit.

We will be back but hope someone comes tothe towns rescue before next year.

    Regards,

    Geoff Smith,Peterborough.

Dear Editor,I am researching my family tree and my grand-mother came from North Walsham. Her namewas Emmeline Jarvis, born in 1873. Her fatherwas Francis Jarvis and her mother was EmilyPilgrim. She married Alfred Farrow, fromReedham, in the early 1900s, having alreadyhad 2 children: Ethel and William Jarvis.

She then had two more sons: Alfred Farrowand my father, Reginald Farrow.

I am having difculty in nding informationabout Ethel & William, who were born in1898 and 1896 respectively.

The family lived in Bakers Yard, Norwich andEmmeline died at an early age in 1913. The onlyother information I have managed to nd abouther family is that her sister, Anna Maria, marriedinto the Moy family and Emmeline had a niece,Bertha Moy.

I would be really interested if any of your readersare descendants of or know of the family andcan provide me with further information.

    Yours faithfully,

    Peter Farrow

    (Gloucestershire)

[email protected] Philip,I always attend the Summer & Christmas Showsat the pier and they are always excellent withthe latest Christmas show being no exception.

Ann Wilson in the last issue of the Crab Talesthinks the costumes were too skimpy.

These superb, amboyant, costumes are whatpeople expect these days in this type of show(see Thursford) and as for her comment thatshe has never seen so many bottoms, wellgo to Cromer beach on a sunny August dayAnn and you will see a lot more.

    Happy New Year to everybody,

    John Ward

    Cromer

Dear Editor,Thank you for printing the letter from AnnWilson of North Walsham who describedfor us so vividly what to expect from theChristmas Pier Show.

Lots of young ladies with bottoms in skimpyclothing. I immediately shufed down to thebox ofce and purchased a ticket - front row!

    Yours faithfully,

    Philip Graham

Dear Editor,So Ann Wilson didnt like the dancers costumesin the Christmas Pier Show (too revealing).

Well, if a bit of thigh and a little cheek makea bottom, then Yes! But you know, childrendont analyse things - they look at the whole,

the spectacle. In my opinion, its only prudishadults that pull things apart. If you dont likethe middle bits, look at the lovely faces andthe hard-working feet. In all honesty, you seemore bottom on the beach in the summer.

I also am not a spring chicken, but I thoroughlyenjoyed every minute of the Shows wonderfulspectacular variety.

    Sincerely,

    Paul Crisp.

    Cromer.

Dear Editor,Over the New Year break I reected on howlucky we are to live in this area of Norfolk.

With the excellent Christmas Special show onCromer Pier, the Castaways annual Christmasshow and Cromer Parish Church carol service.

Dear Philip,Thank you for your kind generosity and yourcontinued support.

Our Christmas Fayre on December 5th, wouldnot have been the success it was without you.

Together we raised a fabulous 1008.

Wishing you all the very best for a happyand prosperous new year.

    Yours truly

    Mrs Vanessa Devlin

On behalf of the Friends of the Belfry

Dear Philip,Once again could I ask if readers of the CrabTalescould please save their Xmas stamps, for the various charities I support.

    Many thanks.

Dear Philip,Once again, I would like to thank all of thosevolunteers, who gave us ladies the pensioner

party and Christmas dinner, which this yearwas the tastiest ever.

The reworks, were prettier than ever and theCarnival was wonderful. Our Cromer Xmastree lights were so beautiful this year.

But why does some crazy man, do those awfulXmas trees in our lovely Church grounds everyyear? Last year it was made of lobster pots.

Every town has proper Xmas trees and thisyear Sheringham had several lovely ones.

I am an 92 year old pensioner and very happy, but have never seen trees like Cromers.

Have a good easier and healthy new year.

    Regards

    Joy MannersCromer

For the rst time ever, I attended a service atthe Friends Meeting House in North Walsham

and found it most interesting. The Christmas Bingo session at AntinghamVillage Hall raised 400+ for hall funds.

As we were away for Christmas we missed theBoxing Day reworks and sea dip at Cromer.

The Library at North Walsham was brilliant ingetting me a book I needed well done!

All of these things, and the many other that wecouldnt get to, were delivered with excellentinput from volunteers and employees.

Finally, I must also mention that the Charityshow at the end of the Pier in aid of AnglianAir Ambulance raised over 1,000 and I amso grateful for the singers, musicians, dancers, magician and comedian who made it such a

grand night.I realise that for many, the Christmas periodwas a time of anxiety and loneliness and wemust, as a society, do all we can to make2015 better for them.

Continued From Front PageThe Cromer Boxing Day Dip is run everyyear by the North Norfolk Beach Runnersand before the Dip, they ran along the topof the cliffs by the golf course up toOverstrand, then back on the beach.

    Pictured on Right & Below

It was a very cold with the air temperatures offthe coast below zero and the sea temperaturewas about 8C.

The tide was also very high, so there was nota lot of room on the beach and the water wasquite deep when they went in.

This event has taken place since 1985 when itwas originally organised as a bit of a dareand is now a much anticipated tradition.

Thousands of spectators turned out again, andwere very generous with 1,530 being raised

for the CommunityHeartbeat Trust inorder to help fund

Victorian Christmas MarketOn Saturday 13th December the ChristmasFayre was run by the Christmas WorkingGroup in conjunction with MundesleyParish Council.

There was a Victorian Theme and stallholdersentered into the spirit by dressing up. The eventwas a huge success having grown considerablyover the past few years. We had lots of stalls, fairground rides & attractions on the car park,a disco for older children and carols sung byschoolchildren and a local choir.

On behalf of the Christmas Working Group& Mundesley Parish Council I would like tothank everyone for assisting in making thisevent happen, it takes an enormous amountof work, all done by volunteers.

Also many thanks for all the people who cameto support the Christmas Fayre - we hope tosee you all again next year.

Christmas TreeFestival....in TriminghamThe Trimingham Christmas Tree Festival wasstarted by John Barker in 2008 and has steadilygrown over the past 7 years.

The residents of Trimingham have been verygenerous with their donations of Christmastrees and decorations and the church lookssplendid in its Christmas attire each year.

I think our Festival is unique in North Norfolk

because it starts on the Saturday before theChristingle service and ends on 12th night.

The comments in our Visitors Book are verycomplimentary and many people return yearafter year to see the different displays.

For the rst time in 2014 we had a Christmastree in our Churchyard with lights, this yeardonated by Phil & Andrea (Homemade Jams)

and kindly switched on by Mrs Jill Harrisonand it is hoped that this will be a bigger andbrighter display next year.

We look forward to you coming to see the treefestival in December 2015 or earlier as onFriday 24th April, we begin a 3 day artexhibition open to all local artists.

Recipe Of TheSeasonChilly winter breezes pervade the still sleepyyet alert eyes of the forager.

My name is Simon Hunter Marsh I am head chefat The Erpingham Arms and I seek out andprocess lost and forgotten ingredients toshowcase what can be made using myknowledge of Mother Nature.

My foraging menu is ever changing as newingredients reveal themselves day by day.

    My Recipe Of The Season

Three Cornered Leek PestoIngredients:250g wild leek leaves (baby leeks)50g lightly toasted pine nuts,50g lightly toasted sesame seeds,50g Parmesan cheese grated,1 lime zest end and juiced,1 table spoon white trufe oil (optional),sea salt and black pepper,100 ml rapeseed oil.

Method: In a food processor pure the leaves, cheese, lime zest & juice along with pine nutsuntil a rough paste. Slowly add the oil until youreach the desired consistency of your pesto, youmay want to adjust amount of oil to suit your

palate. If using trufe oil check the pesto

before seasoning.Store in a sterilised jar in your fridge to use atleisure, making sure there is a slight coveringof oil on top to insure your vibrant green saucestays fresh. I recommend a generous splashedtossed through linguini or tagliatelle.

The Hole In .........The Christmas PuddingEvery Christmas Father Christmas comes downaway from the Elf staff room, work station orhis letter replying ofce to look (and test) theChristmas pudding that Mother Christmashas cooked.

But one year Father Christmas came downstairsand found that there wasA Hole In TheChristmas Pudding! Yes, You Heard MeA Whole In The Christmas Pudding!

Father Christmas was determined to nd out whohad made the hole in the Christmas pudding.

He told Mother Christmas that he was off to thepub with the Eskimos and would be back in timefor tea he promised. So off he went keeping hispromise that he would be home in time for tea.

On his journey to nd out who made the hole inthe Christmas pudding he passed the penguinswho were sliding on their tummies into the sea,the polar bears who were out shing in the coldweather and the Eskimos in the pub (you didntthink that hed ll himself before having whatwas left of the Christmas pudding, would you?)

But as he passed them he didnt forget to ask:Did you make the hole in the Christmas

pudding? But every time they shook their heads and repliedNo, we dont know what you are talking aboutand every time Father Christmas carried on hisjourney. Father Christmas looked at his watch,it came too soon. It was time to go home for tea.

He wanted to carry on searching but he hadpromised he would be home in time for tea.

As he passed by the polar bears shing FatherChristmas got a tingle of excitement rushingaround his body. Father Christmas just thenremembered that his friends from Frozen(he DVD) were coming to tea!

Father Christmas dashed home in such a hurrythat he slipped over several times. MeanwhileMother Christmas invited the guests in who

were Hans, Elsa, Anna, Spen(who was hardto get through the door)Christoph, a few ofthe villagers and the trolls that were theChristoph family.

Just then Father Christmas hurried in and sawall the guests chatting away and laughing. He then had to ask Mother Christmas if sheknew what had happened to the Christmaspudding and guess what?

Mother Christmas told him that it was hernew inventioncalled Christmaspudding doughnuts.

Everyone heard her and said together: What abrilliant invention Mother Christmas, can youplease make some next year too?

    Father Christmas blushed.

My 12-hr Shift.......With Ambulance Crews From Cromer

Twelve hours plus on an ambulance on a coldNew Years Eve may not be everybodys idealway of seeing out the old year. But it was a

chance to see how our ambulance serviceis performing under pressure.

After campaigning for more than two years fora better ambulance service for North Norfolk, Iwanted to experience how the service is faringin the middle of winter, particularly with therising demands on hospital A&Es.

I have nothing but praise for the paramedics thatI went out with from their base in Cromer. They were great and thoroughly professionalduring a busy, unpredictable shift. But whatI discovered also shocked me.

    Three things stand out:

The much-reported pressures on A&E: latemorning on new years eve there were 13ambulances waiting outside the Norfolk &

Norwich hospital; we were waiting for spacesin the corridor to leave patients on trolleyswhile patient assessments were done in theback of the ambulance.

Later in the day the hospital declared a majorinternal incident as they tried to dischargepatients to clear the much-needed beds, the

start of what the mediadeemed a crisis acrossthe country.

While we waited at thehospital, there were noambulances availablein north Norfolk and

then when we left thehospital, we were div-erted to a call in Norwich

I was told by the crewsthat this was the normmost days.Ambulances dont always go back to base andits usual for the crew not to return to Cromeruntil the end of shift.

Often the 111 service creates additional workloadand often unnecessarily sends an ambulance onblues when it is not needed. Because the 111operators work to a prescribed crib sheet ofasking questions like is the patient alert?without being able to ask more probingquestions, a noresponse triggers an

ambulance call out.Fortunately during my shift all of the calls weattended during the day on New Years Evewere for people in need of urgent medical help.

Last weekend the ambulance trust saw a 26%increase in calls compared to 2013 but it hashad no extra funding. No wonder the service

is under pressure. Staff on the frontline keepit going for all of us, covering miles and milesacross Norfolk. Without them, heaven help us.You never know when you might need anambulance.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial diseasethat affects dogs, wild rodents andmany other species including humans.

It is a difcult disease to diagnose

with a range of symptoms fromvomiting & diarrhoea to liveror kidney failure. The diseasecan be fatal if left untreated.

Leptospirosisis transmitted bycontact with the urine of infectedanimals, most commonly viacontaminated water in riversor streams.

Any dog exercised outside is atpotential risk of the disease.

Protection of Leptois availablethrough a vaccination which alsohelps prevent shedding of thebacteria in the urine. It provides immunity to the animaland also helps protect you and yourfamily from exposure.

Leptohas been part of our vaccinationprotocol for many years but as timeadvances so do diseases & researchershave picked up on 2 new strains ofthe disease in the UK in recent years.

These 2 new strains have so far notbeen included in vaccination protocolsacross the country, until now.

Miramar vets are offering the newLepto 4vaccination as part of our

routine vaccination protocol. If your dog is due for a booster youwill need 2 injections (even if itsjust an annual booster) 4 weeksapart, to cover your dog for theLepto 4disease. This will ensurefull protection of the 2 new strainsof the disease. The 2nd part of theinjection is completely FREE OFCHARGE.

Puppies will automatically receivethe new vaccine as part of our puppycourse, they will therefore benetfrom ultimate protection fromthe start.

A ForthcomingEvening............of musical tapestries woven bythree independent female artistsat The Folk House Caf and Bar,40a, Park Street, BristolFriday 30th Januaryat 7.30pm.

...but why are we, here in North Norfolk, beingtold about this gig those many miles away?

    All will be revealed...

One of the three females performing at thisevent is Isolde Freeth-Hale, a young singer-songwriter - worthy of some particular note- blessed with a unique voice with haunting,

yet relaxing, qualities and with Mundesleyconnections, to boot...

I rst had the undoubted pleasure of meeting arather young Isolde some eight to ten years agowhen, in my role as impresario, I put on a varietyshow at the Holt Auden Theatre to launch a newband. She very kindly and eagerly agreed to doa couple of spots in the show in which, bothI and North Norfolk, were awakened to herconsiderable talents.

The stage props she insisted on were a guitar, ofcourse, a bean bag & a mug of steaming hot tea.Her act was truly therapeutic - draped casuallyacross her make-shift upholstery she sipped fromher cuppa whilst running through a seeminglyall-too-short repertoire of some of her self-

penned numbers. I shall never forget thatday nor her entrancing voice...

To bring things up-to-date and quote from apress release - Isolde is a singer-songwriterfrom London and now based in Bristol. Herearly inuences were the colours, fabric andclay of her artisan family; a-cappella gospelmusic and 90s pop.

Oddly, for a Londoner, she always felt the strongcall of the wild and often felt more like a mythicalcreature trapped inside a city-kid, which explainsthe delicious mix of natural and electronic soundsthat meet in her work, echoing inuences suchas Fourtet & Bjork. Isolde crafts her songs morelike sound paintings dripping with world-spicedharmonies and sits them in a collage of foundsounds and stories of the everyday, which shepieces together like a magpie weaving a nest.

Isoldes work has been compared to HanneHukkelberg, Tune-yards, Cosmo Sheldrakeand CocoRosie and has been avoured as a

jazzy-experimental-folktronica. Whateveryou make of it, her music is sure to envelopeyou in a cocoon of sensual treats.

This entrancing young lady, along with her works, has been described, in turn, as quirky, ambient, abstract, dreamlike, earthy, otherworldly andethereal. Makes you want to lie in a feldthough, I reckon, is the most thought-provoking observation; Im sure thatsa meadow of wild spring owerscaptured in soft-focus (MP)?

Isolde is not exactly following in her femalefamily tradition - whereas her Mother and herGrandmother are both noted artists la canvasand of no mean ability - this third generationyoung lady paints on, and between, the ve-lined stave of music manuscript. I tell you what,YOU best be the judge of her talents, yourselves- Im sure you will be both soothed andintrigued by her sounds and style.

Google or YouTube this link for a shortintroduction to, and sample of, her music:

Youll hunger for more. I feel sure this is amusical career well hear much more of and

for a long time to come. Happy Listening.

Oops, nearly forgot - Crab Talesvery ownLis Keddell, no less, is Isoldes justly proudGrandmother (but far too modest to writethis herself).
