HEALTHWATCH INTRODUCTION

There are too many people falling through the cracks in our healthcare system and aren’t

receiving the personal treatment they need, HealthWatch proposes to change all that.

HealthWatch is a small monitoring band under your watch, or shirt collar. It works by using a

reporting system feedback to your laptop, phone, tablet or purpose built HealthWatch

monitor. The HealthWatch system learns what’s normal for you and can easily track your

ongoing health results, cutting out the medical jargon so that you and your healthcare

provider can communicate more effectively. This can then be submitted to the cloud for

storage so that it is easily accessible whenever it is required.

3. BUSINESS SECTION

3.1 Vision

“To reduce the amount of people falling through the cracks of the Healthcare system by

giving the ordinary person the ability to monitor their own health”

3.2 Industry Analysis: Healthcare monitoring industry

Industry: The healthcare monitoring industry helps aid to the efficient monitoring of

health.

Force: High/Low: Justification:

Buyer power: High “Medical devices purchased….to self-monitor

health conditions will account for more than 80%

of wireless devices in 2016” (Vecchione, 2012),

this indicates that buyer power will become high

as more people will be purchasing health

monitoring devices.

2

Page 3: D2 shan930

3

Supplier power: Low Supplier power is low due to a high selection of

internet service providers, where HealthWatch

can choose between any internet providers they

like.

Threat of new entrants: High Threat of new entrants is high as more

competitors are entering the market with their

new and improved technologies/apps, such as

Microsoft. (Vecchione, 2012)

Threat of substitutes: High Threat of substitutes is high as there are many

devices such as apps being developed. “We

expect other apps to emerge on the market place

for monitoring as more devices become readily

available." (Vecchione, 2012).

Rivalry among existing

competitors:

High This is high as more and more technologies/apps

are being developed therefore creating rivalry

among the competitors to have a better product.

The Overall attractiveness of the industry is low: Even though the supplier power is low,

this will be due to customers having a high buying power as they have many choices, threat

of new entrants being high as more competitors are joining the market, threat of substitutes

being high as more products are being developed and improved and rivalry among existing

competitors is high because more products are being made and improved, creating a

competitive environment. Therefore the overall attractiveness of this industry is low.

3.3 Customers and Their Needs

3

Page 4: D2 shan930

4

HealthWatch ideal targeted customers are those who are identified to be of high risk to

health problems, in saying that HealthWatch is ideal for anyone i.e. grandparents, parents,

children, neighbours etc. as everyone and anyone can become sick at any time.

HelathWatch caters to the healthcare monitoring needs of customers by giving them the

ability to monitor their own health, it allows customers to monitor their health 24 hours of

the day. Because it is not affordable nor practical to visit the doctor’s every day, hence

reduce the amount of visits to the doctor’s office.

3.4 The Product and/or Service

HealthWatch is a product that provides a service that allows customers to monitor and

submit their own personal health reports to the cloud so that when they visit the doctors,

the doctors can see what’s happening in their lives and overall reducing the amount of visits

to the doctor’s office. This will also benefit all customers as it will help reduce the cases of

misdiagnosis that could have a lasting effect on their lives, as according to the NCPA up to

20% of cases involve misdiagnosis, and about 20% of these have the possibility of being life

threatening or ending in permanent disability.

3.5 Suppliers and Partners

HealthWatch would require the services of suppliers such as an internet service provider

and online storage provider like the cloud. This is because customers will need the

connection of the internet to their HealthWatch bands as it will be reporting the

information straight away to the provider of storage, the online storage provider, like the

cloud.

Partners of HealthWatch will consist of the ministry of health, doctors, nurses, anyone in the

field of health. This partnership will benefit them as it will help to decrease the volume of

undiagnosed cases, better equip doctors and nurses with the information needed to come

to the aid of people, which would benefit us as our vision says is to “reduce the amount of

people falling through the cracks of our healthcare system….”.

3.6 Strategy: Low Cost in a Broad Market

4

Page 5: D2 shan930

5

HealthWatch will adapt the cost strategy of low cost, and the competitive scope of a broad

market. This is because HealthWatch offers an alternative way of monitoring your health

without the costly effects of visiting the doctors every day, it will reduce the amount of visits

and making it more efficient when visiting the doctors. Healthcare is targeting a broad

market as it is ideal for anyone to use, because the healthcare system affects everyone i.e.

everyone gets sick at some point.

Therefore the overall strategy is therefore Cost Leadership

3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology development and R&D

The most important value chain activity for HealthWatch is Technology development and

R&D. This is because HealthWatchs vision is to enable anyone to monitor their own health,

the support chain activity (technology development and R&D) incorporates the vision of the

business by being able to update the system through technology development and through

R&D HealthWatch becomes more efficient as the development of that research is key to the

success of HealthWatch

3.8 Business Processes

3.8.1. INFORMATION ANALYSIS PROCESS – The process of analysing information validates the

effectiveness of HealthWatch in terms of contributing to the aid of increasing the public

health, by enabling people to monitor their own health. By analysing the information

gathered it indicates whether HealthWatch is making a positive impact on the decreasing

the amount of people falling through the crack of our healthcare system as stated in the

vision.

5

Page 6: D2 shan930

6

3.8.2. SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS – Software development process is important

because software is regularly being updated at an increasing rate to create better

efficiencies in software. This is important to HealthWatch as it will need to continue to

improve its software to reduce malfunctions that may arise, that may lead to incorrect

monitoring of health, or completely stop monitoring someone’s health, also to stay

competitive.

3.10 Systems

3.10.1. INFORMATION ANALYSIS PROCESSING SYSTEM – This is an important system that

supports the information analysis process of HealthWatch, therefore incorporating the

functionalities of the process such as analysing collated information from HealthWatch and

acquiring information from HealthWatch. This system helps to determine the effectiveness

of the HealthWatch in terms of our vision ““To reduce the amount of people falling through

the cracks of the Healthcare system by giving the ordinary person the ability to monitor

their own health”.

3.10.2. SOFTWARE FAULTS MANAGING SYSTEM – This is an important system that will better

manage the software faults that arise. This incorporates the functionality that is recording

the faults, as without recording the faults within the software we would not know that there

is a fault that we need to be attending to. By managing the recorded faults we will be able

to avoid the same mistakes in the future.

3.10.3. SOFTWARE DEVOLPMENT INSTALLATION SYSTEM – This is an important system that will add value to HealthWatch by making sure that the developing of the software is running smoothly on and effective system. This system incorporates the functionality that is developing software, by enabling HealthWatch to more effectively implement the software updates that are required when faults occur.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion HealthWatch is dedicated to its vision ““To reduce the amount of people

falling through the cracks of the Healthcare system by giving the ordinary person the ability

to monitor their own health”. HealthWatch is there to better monitor the ordinary man’s

health on an everyday basis, this will give the doctors the information needed to properly

treat someone therefore decreasing the number of misdiagnosed cases. Information

systems is a big part of the foundation, operation and success of HealthWatch, without

information systems HealthWatch would not be possible.
