INSERT AN APPROPRIATE TITLE HEREINTRODUCTION

In order to make the world a better place, me and my partners came up with the hunger

problem in Africa for deliverable 1. Hunger is as much a cause as a consequence of the

poverty that keeps families in a vicious cycle from one generation to the next. In other

words, hunger and poverty are connected. Solving hunger is solving poverty. Therefore we

decided to help people in African who are suffering hunger by donating through eft pos

machine.

3. BUSINESS SECTION

3.1 Vision

To help people in African who are suffering hunger.

3.2 Industry Analysis: Eft pos machine donation Industry

Industry: Eft pos machine donation Industry

Force: High/Low: Justification:

Buyer power: High Buyer power is high. There are lots of different

ways to donate your money to the charity like

donating through online shopping on websites

such as Amazon.(http://www.vso.org.uk/get-

involved/different-ways-you-can-donate)

Supplier power: Low Supplier power would be low. As the creator of

this eft pos machine. The only thing we need to

do is that produce them and sell them to

supermarkets like Countdown and dairy shop.

2

Threat of new entrants: Low The threat of new entrants would be rather low.

As a charitable product, it does not come up with

lots of profit. Therefore, There will not many

businessperson joins in.

Threat of substitutes: Low The threat of substitutes would be rather low. As

long as we sell our machine to some authoritative

and influential charity organizations. Our product

would not be easy to be taken place.

Rivalry among existing

competitors:

Low The rivalry among existing competitors is low

because the speed of development of eft pos

machine is slow. The other eft pos machine

creators innovate on eft pos machine can be very

difficult.

Overall attractiveness of the industry: It is a very unattractive industry if your main goal is

making profit. The reason for this is that our ultimate goal is helping people in Africa who

are suffering hunger but not making money from this. According to my research from

The income for Red Cross in 2013 was even lower than their expenditure.

3.3 Customers and Their Needs

The main customer for us would be supermarkets like Pak’n Save, Countdown, dairy shop

and some entertainment places. Their needs just want eft pos machine to work perfectly as

normal one. Our eft pos machines are built based on it and also provide donation service for

people who want to.

3.4 The Product and Service

There is a donation button on our eft pos machine. After customers complete their shopping

payment, they can press that button, and our machine will shift to the donation system 3

automatically. Payments of $5, $10, $15 are being electronically donated. Also if you want

to donate more, just enter the money you would like to and complete it like usual payment

on eft pos. People were using the machines they would have definitely donated more than

they would have if they were using cash.

(http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10910674). That is why

we are not only providing those three options that are the amount of donation.

3.5 Suppliers and Partners

The main partner that the eft pos machine will be collaborating with is Red Cross. The main

reason is we want to make people believe that people’s donation is sent to somewhere

authoritative but not a new personal charity organization. Otherwise people might think

their donation is not used for helping people who are suffering hunger. Also we will work

with banks therefore we can get the address of donators because we will need to notify

them when their donation has been received and transferred to Red Coss

3.6 Strategy: Cost Leadership

On Porter’s Generic Strategies, this eft pos machine would come under Cost Leadership,

because produce a eft pos machine would not cost so much money. The competitive scope

of it would be broad market. The reason for this is that our machine would be sold to

Pak'nSave, Countdown and dairy shop. There are over 160

Countdowns(http://www.countdown.co.nz/about-us/our-company) and 50 Pak’n

Save(http://www.countdown.co.nz/about-us/our-company) across New Zealand. It is a

large market for us.

3.7 Value Chain Activity: Receive and store raw materials

The most important value chain activity for this business is Receive and store raw materials.

Receiving and store raw materials would be the most important value chain activity

considering as the donation is the basic of all charity activities. Our key goal is to help people

get out of suffering hunger and we need donation at first, then we are able to do so.

3.8.2. TRANSFERRING DONATION PROCESS - Donation we received would not be sent to

Africa directly. Our donation system is collaborating with Red Cross so we need to transfer

the donation to Red Cross first and let them sent donation to Africa.

3.10 Systems

3.10.1. DONATION RECORDING SYSTEM - This system will help us record the donation we

received correctly. We have to make sure that all of donation is used on charity activity.

ourself. This system will help us transfer the donation to Red Cross in order to help people in

CONCLUSION

Overall, the actual industry of eft pos machine is not a attractive one and it is hard to

generate revenue. The eft pos machine is mainly aimed to help people who are suffering

hunger in Africa which is definitely as opposed to make money. By donating through eft pos

machine is more convenient than donating cash and coins. Our ultimate goal is charity, we

believe it can help people that suffer hunger badly much more than we expect.
