El día 8 de diciembre el Papa Francisco dio inicio al
año jubileo de la Misericordia. Un año de jubileo es
un tiempo en el cual la Iglesia invita a sus hijos a
recibir el perdón y la misericordia del Padre y se
caracteriza por la puerta santa. Los años jubileos
ocurren cada 25 años, el ultimo fue en el año 2000 y
el Santo Padre le da inicio abriendo una puerta
especial en la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano
y después en las cuatro basílicas principales de
Roma que son la Catedral de San Juan en el
Laterano, Santa María la Mayor, y San Pablo fuera
el Muro. Se encuentran puertas especiales en estas
cuatro basílicas que se reservan solamente para los
años jubilares. Este jubileo es diferente en que el
Santo Padre ha pedido que cada diócesis del mundo
asigne una puerta santa para el uso de la Iglesia
local. Por esta razón el Obispo Peter abrió la puerta
santa en la Catedral de San Juan en Boise el
domingo pasado el 13 de diciembre. Les invito a
que lean la carta del Papa Francisco dando inicio al
año jubilar. La carta se ha titulado, “Misericordiae
Voltus,” las cartas de los papas siempre se titulan en
Latín, esta se traduce “El Rostro de la
Misericordia.” En ella encontraran información
general sobre el año del jubileo, y también un buen
discurso de la misericordia.

On December 8, Pope Francis opened the Jubilee
Year of Mercy. A jubilee year is a time in which
the Church invites Her children to receive God’s
forgiveness and mercy and it is always symbolized
by the holy door. Jubilees occur every 25 years, the
last one being the year 2000 and the Holy Father
ushers in the year by opening a special door at St.
Peter’s at the Vatican and later at the other principal
basilicas in Rome which are the Cathedral of St.
John Lateran, St. Mary Major and St. Paul outside
the walls. There are special doors in these four
churches that are reserved and used only as holy
doors during jubilee years. This jubilee is different
in that the Holy Father has asked that each diocese
throughout the world provide a holy door at their
cathedral for the local Church. For this reason
Bishop Peter opened a holy door at St. John’s Cathedral in Boise last Sunday, December 13. I
strongly encourage you to read the letter written by
Pope Francis to initiate the Jubilee of Mercy. The
letter is called “Misericordiae Voltus,” the pope’s
letters are always given a Latin title, and this one
translates as “The Face of Mercy.” In it you will
find the general information about the Jubilee of
Mercy, and also a nice discourse about mercy itself.

The Light is ON for You!
Every Wednesday during Advent (Dec. 16, Dec. 23), parishes
throughout the Diocese of Boise will make the Sacrament of Reconciliation available from 11:30am to 1:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm so Catholics across the state of Idaho can return to this incredible source of God’s grace, mercy and healing. At Our Lady of the Valley, we will have priests available:

Reconciliation is also available: Thursdays 5:30-7:00p.m. Fridays 7:30-8:00a.m. Saturdays 3:30-4:30p.m.

Last Chance: Donate Candy for Christmas Project The children in our program will be making handmade Christmas cards to include in this year’s food boxes for those in need in our community. Parents—we would like to include a sweet treat. Donate wrapped chocolate candies to your child’s teacher or drop off at the parish office by December 20th. Thank you!
Tonight: Life Night at OLV Teens are invited to a Life Night at OLV on Dec. 20. The night includes a family Mass, tacos for dinner, and trivia with prizes. St. Paul’s teens will join us. They outnumbered us for the first Life Night in October—let’s get them back at our place! Here is the schedule for the night:
5:00-6:00PM MASS
The entire family is invited to Mass with great music, dynamic preaching, and the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
6:00-6:30PM TACOS
Following Mass, teens should gather in Holy Family Hall (gym) for tacos prepared by the great cooks from our parish.
6:30-7:30PM TRIVIA
Teens will compete in a trivia challenge at their tables to see who has the most useless knowledge to spare. Prizes will be awarded to the winning table.
Sponsor Contract Due: If your child is in their
2nd year of First Communion preparation class this year, you are required to turn in a green sponsor contract signed by your child’s sponsor. Please submit this contract no later than Monday, Dec. 21. Questions? Call Sheri at 459-3653.
Get a
First Communion Mini-Retreat Jan. 2 Calling all 6th-9th graders preparing for First Communion: We have a mystery to solve, and we need your detective skills! On Saturday, January 2 from 9am-12pm at OLV, our mini-retreat will feature an interactive mystery experience. Who did it? In what room? Using what weapon? Come ready to be a sleuth, learn about the Eucharist, and grow closer to our Lord. This is a required event for all First Communion teens in 6th-9th grade. Questions? Sponsor Retreat January 22-23 If your child is in 2nd year First Communion preparation class this year, your child’s sponsor must attend the Sponsor retreat at Our Lady of the Valley on Friday, Jan 22 in English from 5:30-9:30pm or Saturday, Jan 23 in Spanish from 9am-1pm. Proyecto de Navidad: Los niños haran tarjetas de
navidad durante su clase de educacion religiosa estas tarjetas las incluiremos en las cajas de comida de Navidad para darles un toque agradabe. Para los necesitados de nuestra comunidad padres por favor de traer sus donaciones. Pueden traer dulces o chocolates envueltos a la clase a la oficina parroquial antes del 20 de diciembre.
Esta Noche: Life Night en NSV
Los jóvenes están invitados el 20 de Diciembre a una convivencia en NSV. La convivencia incluye una misa familiar, cena con tacos, y trivial con premios. Los jóvenes de la Parroquia de San Pablo asistirán también a esta convivencia familiar. Ellos nos superaron en asistencia en la primera convivencia familiar que fue en octubre en San pablo esperamos tener más asistencia de jóvenes de NSV! Este es el horario de la noche:
5:00-6:00PM MISA Toda la familia esta invitada a misa conmúsica, predicación, dinámicas y la presencia real de Jesucristo en la Eucaristía.
6:00-6:30PM TACOS Después de la misa los jovenes tendran una convivencia en el salon La Sagrada Familia (gym tendremos tacos preparados por los cocineros de nuestra parroquia.
6:30-7:30PM TRIVIA Los Jóvenes competirán en un desafío trivial en sus mesas para ver quién tiene el más competente.
La forma de padrino Si su hijo está en el segundo año de preparación para recibir la primera comunión este año, es requerido que entregué la forma verde firmada por los padrinos de su hijo/a. Por favor lleve esta forma a la oficina de la parro-quia el ultimo día para entre-garla es el lunes 21 de di-ciembre. Si usted no recibió esta forma cuando registro a su hijo/a o tiene preguntas referentes a esto, llame a Sheri a la oficina a 459-3653.

Mini-Retiro de Primera communion el 2 de enero Todos los adolecentes preparando para la primera comunión, en los grados 6-9 tenemos un misterio que resolver, y necesitamos tus habilidades de detective! El sábado 2 de enero a partir de las 9am-12pm en NSV nuestro mini-retiro contará con una experiencia de misterio interactiva. ¿Quién lo hizo? ¿En qué habitación? Usando la arma? Ven preparado para ser un detective, y aprende acerca dela Eucaristía, y como acercarse más a nuestro Señor. The SVdP Conference wishes to thank everyone (over 130 volunteers) who participated in the success of the Thanksgiving Dinner this year: publicity, donation of food and money, setting up, decorating, food preparation, serving,
craft table, dish washing, and clean up! Without all of your help, we would not have been able to serve over 350 people a full-sized delicious meal! What a joyous celebration we had!
