In one of the most concise and poetic passages in his letter to the Corinthi-ans, Paul announces that "we preach Christ crucified ... [because] for those called ... Christ is the strength and wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1: 23, 24). The designs of God seem unreasonable to those who want a false god and worldly values. But Christ, in his crucifixion, baffles the reasoning of both those who are hungry for power and those who think they know everything. In a blunt denunciation of the narrow mind of his listeners, Jesus today disrupts his plans literally and figuratively. In his reverence for the house of God, he lets them know clearly that what they are doing is vulgar and insults God. Then He tries to open their weak minds with their understanding of the power and wisdom of God that is the cross. For them, it seems weak. But the generous sacrifice of Jesus is exactly what completes the covenant that symbolizes the temple. The new Temple is Christ's own body and blood.
En uno de los pasajes más escuetos y poéticos en su carta a los corintios, Pablo anuncia que "predicamos a Cristo crucificado. . . [porque] para los
