We warmly welcome December with Joy and happiness. Inthis month we buy gifts and share gifts with relatives and friends. The greatest gift which God has given us is relationship, be itparents, children, relatives and friends, Benefactors. We need toCherish this relationship, nurture it and reap the benefits of it.

The child Jesus in this Christmas wants you to be some one’sgreatest gift. Didn’t Jesus say from the mountain top.” Do untoothers what you want others do unto you”? Can we be that one tosomeone else?

Gift ourselves into someone’s life. Make yourself worthy ofbeing someone’s greatest gift. People feel your love not by what youare with them, but by what they can be with you. In the presenceand fragrance of your love, let other blossom.

There are two religious Congregations founded entirely to preachthe World through Modern Communication Media - the Pius Society ofSt Paul and Daughters of St. Paul. In India, they are based in Mumbai andhave communities in various parts of the subcontinent. The visionaryfounder is Italian born Blessed James Alberione. We are preparing forthe centenary celebrations of our Foundation which had its start on 20Aug 1914 in Alba, Italy. James Alberione was born on 4 April 1884 toTresa and Michael Alberione. He was born in a peasant family in aremote village in Piedemont, Alpine, Italy. The four Alberione siblingswere wedded to maintain the family.

However, the youngest son James' inclination was to study and topursue prieshood. For a mere Nine year old, this ambition was very high. But James held on to his dream. Appreciated by his teacher RosaCardona and his mother, in spite of the odds he faced in his povertystricken family; James treasured the desire in his heart the idea ofbecoming a priest. In the school his teacher encouraged his vision thoughthe classmates derided him. At home his mother cherished her son'sdream and was optimistic about the young boy's tender steps as hejourneyed ahead.

James entered the Seminary of Bra at the age of 12 in 1986 tobecome a priest. Four years later he had to discontinue for the reason hehimself recalled 'influence of bad reading.' With the support of his ParishP r i e s t , Fr. J ohn B ap t i s tMontersino who knew him andthe family well, he re-entered theSeminary at Alba. When Jamesclimbed up the steps of AlbaSeminary his mind travelled backto the agonizing days spent athome in the care of his mother.

Remembering the Founderof the Pauline Family

He diligently pursued his philosophical and theological studies.James nurtured his vision deep in his heart; regularly sharing hisreflections with his spiritual director Canon Chiesa. His trusted friendshelped him mature in his idea. On the mid night of 1900 when Jamesspent the entire night in adoration before the blessed sacrament, Jesusassured him, "Do not be afraid, I am with you, From here I want toenlighten you. Live in continual conversion".

Newly ordained young Fr. James Alberione, at 24, was appointedthe spiritual director of the Diocesan Seminary. James graduallygathered around him a small group of teenagers and tried explaining hisvision and mission to them, motivating them to enter into the new field ofCommunication for the proclamation of the Word.

This small group grew to be the pioneering members of the Societyof St. Paul. Meanwhille in 1915 he gathered a group of young womenunder the guidance of Sr. Thecla Merlo, a tailor by profession. The town-people appreciated the young women for their committed work andreferred to them as Daughters of St. Paul. Thus a new religiouscommunity was born in the church.

Now there are over 6000 members of Daughters of St. Paul andSociety of St. Paul around the world proclaiming theWord through radio,Television, Internet and value oriented publications. James foundedvarious groups like, "Pius Disciples of the Divine Master, Sisters of Jesusthe Good Shepherd, Apostoline Sisters, Institute of Jesus the priest,Institute of St. Gabriel the Archangel. Institute of Mary of theAnnunciation, Union of Pauline Cooperators, Institute of the HolyFamily" - all with different apostolates. All together we are called thePauline Family as we are nurtured from same fountain of life - thePauline Spirituality. After giving his best to the church and society Jamesdied on 26 Nov. 1971. James had participated in vatican II Council andhad been in the team of architects who wrote the Decree on the SocialCommunications - Inter Mirifica. May we continue the media apostolatewith same vision.

To honour the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council and thetwentieth anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, PopeBenedict XVI has announced a Year of Faith, starting October 11 andending November 24, 2013.The goal is to strengthen the faith of Catholics and draw the world to faith bytheir example. The “door of faith” is opened at one’s baptism, but during thisyear Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover andrenew their relationship with Christ and his Church. The purpose of the year of faith is to give fresh impetus to the mission of thewhole Church to lead human beings out of the wilderness in which theyoften find themselves to the place of life, friendship with Christ that gives uslife in fullness. The year of faith is an opportunity for Catholics to experience a conversion– to turn back to Jesus and enter into a deeper relationship with him.Everyone in the Church are invited to celebrate and renew their faith -individually, in families, in parishes and schools, in our Diocese, countryand across our global Catholic community.Ways to celebrate theYear of Faith1.
