Industrial and Marine CoatingsZINC CLAD 60

INORGANIC ZINC ETHYL SILICATE

CODE:PART A: ZNCL60-A

PRODUCT INFORMATION

PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONRECOMMENDED USES

Zinc Clad 60 is an inorganic, ethyl silicate type supplied in two parts, liquid parts and zinc dust. It gives an outstanding and long-lasting galvanic protection to carbon steel and prevents the corrosive progression under the film in case of damage of the paint system. Provides the cathodic protection of the Galvanization mechanism. The coat is self-healing to resume the protection when damage. It protects the steel by means of forming a compact inorganic barrier resistant to solvent. This product is not recommended for direct exposure to aggressive chemical environments without a suitable coating. Content 80% zinc in dry film. Cathodic protection. Solvent resistant. Air dry product.

Effective protection against corrosion of carbon steel treated by means of abrasive blast and an appropriate finish application for immersion service in solvents or neutral solutions, or severe chemical environments.Do not apply oil or alkyd paints directly on Zinc Clad 60. Metallic structures and outside of tanks in coastal marine or high humidity environments Railroad or highway bridges structures High temperature structures or equipments Pulp and paper plants Mining plants Oil shore structures

Surface must be clean, dry, and in sound condition. Remove all oil, dust, grease, dirt, loose rust, and other foreign material to ensure adequate adhesion.

Remove all welding spatters and round all sharp edges.

Iron & Steel, atmospheric service: Remove all oil and grease from surface by Solvent Cleaning perSSPC-SP1. Minimum surface preparation is cleaning SSPC-SP6 with abrasive blast using angular edges grit to get an optimum rugosity profile (2 mils). Apply the anticorrosive to the bare steel within a maximum of 8 hours or before rusting occurs.

Iron & Steel, immersion serviceRemove all oil and grease from surface by Solvent Cleaning per SSPC-SP1. Minimum surface preparation is Near White Metal Blast Cleaning per SSPC-SP10. Blast clean all surfaces using a sharp, angular abrasive for optimum surface profile (2 mils). Apply the anticorrosive to the bare steel within a maximum of 8 hours or before rusting occurs.

APPLICATION PROCEDUREPERFORMANCE RECOMENDATIONS

Surface preparation complete as indicated.

Mixing Instructions:The Zinc Clad 60 comes in 2 gallon containers (3.11 kg. Comp. A -liquid base and 4.68 kg., comp. B - zinc dust) of which at yields a mixed gallon.

Thoroughly agitate the mix of both components by mechanical stirring taking care of not adding air. Ensure that no Zinc residue remains in the bottom of container.

After mixing, pouring the mixture through mesh # 30. The mixed material must be used within 4 hours, pot life of the product. This is also temperature dependent. If using thinner, add only after both components were thoroughly mixed.

The mixture requires continuous agitation of the mixture during use and application, otherwise, zinc dust will settle quickly.

Apply in even coats, overlapping each pass with the previous one and sure to reach all surface, especially on the edges, rivets, bolts and all those considered weak corrosion.

Apply the paint in thickness indicated:

Recommended thickness per coat:Wet film: 4.3 - 8.2 milsDry Film: 2.6 - 5.0 mils

Theoretical coverage: 35.2 - 18.3 m2/gal. approx. (On smooth surface)

The reaction mechanism of the self curing inorganic zinc is activated by the air humidity. So when the air relative humidity is below 50%, the film must be water sprayed two hours after the application.

Paint all joints, welds, and sharp angles to prevent early failure in these areas.

When using spray application, use a 50% overlap with each pass gun to avoid empty areas without coverage and pores. If necessary, distribute the spray cross at right angles.

The performance ranges are calculated volume solids and not include loss factor for application of the surface profile, roughness, porosity or surface irregularities, skill and Applicator technique, application method, material loss during mixing, spillage, over-dilution, weather and excessive film thickness.

Excessive dilution of the material can affect the thickness of the film, looks and performance.

Do not mix previously catalyzed material with new material.

Do not apply the material after the recommended life.

To prevent blockage of spray equipment, cleaning equipment after use or after a long pause using R7k58

Keep the pressure vessel at the applicator to avoid blockage of the fluid line due to the weight of the material. Return the paint in the fluid line in intermittent pauses, but maintain agitation in the pressure vessel.

The application of the paint on or under the film thickness recommended may affect product performance.

The drying of these products are produced only by evaporation the solvent content in the film, which can be retarded for high build paint, excess layers or not respecting the minimum recoat time.Refer to Product Information sheet for properties and additional performance characteristics.

CLEAN UP INSTRUCTIONSSAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Clean spills and spatters immediately with R7K58. Clean tools immediately after using with R7K58 Follow the manufacturer's safety recommendations when using solvents.

Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using.
