02 Getting to Know Your CPE

The supported functions and actual appearance of the CPE may vary with theproduct you purchase. The following pictures are provided for illustration pur-pose only.

The following table lists the meanings of the indicators and buttons on the frontpanel.

Indicator Status DescriptionWiMAX On The indicators indicate the signal strength of the WiMAX

network.When all the indicators are on, it indicates that the signalstrength is at the highest level.

Blink The CPE is being upgraded when they blink sequentially.The software is damaged when they blink randomly.

Off There is no WiMAX network signal.

LAN On The LAN port is being used.

Blink The data is being transmitted. The larger the amount ofdata is, the higher the blinking frequency is.

Off The LAN port is unused.

TEL On The TEL port is being used.

Blink The TEL interface has an incoming call.

Off The telephone is on-hook or the TEL interface is disabled.

Power On The CPE is powered on.

Off The CPE is powered off.

POWER The interface is used to connect to the output interface of the poweradapter.

TEL The interface is used to connect a telephone line.

LAN The interface is used to connect the CPE to the computer.

The following table lists the functions of the button on the side panel.

Button DescriptionRESET Press and hold the button for one to eight seconds to restart the

CPE.

Press and hold the button for over eight seconds to restore thedefault settings of the CPE.Once you restore the default settings, all the customized datawill be lost. Use this function with caution.

Selecting a Proper Installation Position

Obstacles such as concrete or wooden walls may affect the transmission of

WiMAX network signals. Therefore, install the CPE in an open space.Keep the CPE away from any household appliance that produces a strongelectric or magnetic eld, such as a microwave oven, a refrigerator, or a sat-ellite dish antenna.

Connecting the Cables

CAUTION

During lightning storms, power off the CPE, disconnect the CPE from thepower supply, and do not touch the antenna.

Connecting the External Antenna (Optional)

CAUTION

Do not use the external antenna outdoors.During lightning storms, stop using the external antenna, and discon-nect it from the CPE.

Two external antennas can be connected to the CPE at a time. If only one an-

tenna is connected, connect it to the main antenna interface labeled with .Otherwise, the CPE may fail to work normally. To connect an external antenna,

do as follows:Power off the CPE.

Connect the external antenna to the CPE.

Put the external antenna in an open space without any obstacle surrounded,

to ensure good reception of network signals.

The schematic gure is only for your reference. The actual external antenna

may differ.

Ensure that the CPE is connected to the PC. If you log in to the Web-based util-

ity of the CPE for the rst time, do as follows:Set the IP address of the PC and ensure that the IP address of the PC is in

the same network segment as that of the CPE.

By default, the IP address of the CPE is 192.168.1.1 and the subnet maskof the CPE is 255.255.255.0.It is recommended that the IP address and DNS settings be obtained auto-matically.

Start the Internet Explorer, enter http://setup.com/html/connect.asp

in the address bar, and then press Enter.Enter the correct user name and password provided by the internet service

provider (ISP) to connect to the network, and then click Connect.

It is recommended that you save the settings of the user account.

You can click Disconnectto disconnect the network manually.

After the user name and the password are veried, you can access the

Internet. To get more information, log in to the Web address http://www.bsnl.in.

For details about the settings of other parameters, log in to the Webaddress http://192.168.1.1to see the online help in the Web-basedutility.To read the online help, you need to install the Adobe Reader 6.0 or laterversions.

05 Troubleshooting

The power indicator is not on.Check the power supply, ensuringthat the power supply is properlyconnected.Check whether the power adaptermeets the specication.

The WiMAX indicator is not on.

Check the power supply, ensuringthat the power supply is properlyconnected.Check whether you have activated

the WiMAX online service.Place the device in an open spacewithout any obstacle around it, suchas a cement wall or a wooden wall,which affects reception of WiMAXnetwork signals.Place the device far away from an

electrical device that produces astrong magnetic eld or a strongelectric eld, such as a microwaveoven, a fridge, or a satellite dishantenna.

The WiMAX network cannot befound.

You cannot log in to the Web-based utility.

Check the power supply, ensuringthat the power supply is properlyconnected.Check whether the network cablebetween the device and the com-puter is properly connected. Ensurethat the device is properly connect-ed to the computer.Check whether the parameters ofthe Web-based utility are properlyset.

Check the Internet Explorer pa-rameters, ensuring that the proxyserver is disabled. Take the InternetExplorer 6.0 as an example. Disablethe proxy server as follows:

Start the Internet Explorer 6.0.Choose Tools> Internet Op-tions..., and then click the Con-nectionstab.Click LAN Settings....Deselect Use a proxy serverfor your LAN. If select, click thecheck box to deselect it. Then

click OK.Log in to the Web-based utility.

07 Warnings and Precautions

To use the device properly and safely, read these warnings and precautions carefully and

strictly observe them during operation.NOTE: Unless otherwise specied, the device described in this section includes the deviceand its accessories.

Basic RequirementsDuring storage, transportation, and operation of the device, keep it dry and prevent itfrom colliding with other objects.Do not dismantle the device. In case of any fault, contact an authorized service center forassistance or repair.

Without authorization, no organization or individual can change the mechanical, safety, orperformance design of the device.When using the device, observe all applicable laws and regulations and respect the legalrights of other people.

Environmental Requirements for Using the DeviceBefore connecting and disconnecting cables, stop using the device, and then disconnect itfrom the power supply. Ensure that your hands are dry during operation.Keep the device far from sources of heat and re, such as a heater or a candle.

Keep the device far from electronic appliances that generate strong magnetic or electricelds, such as a microwave oven or a refrigerator.Place the device on a stable surface.Place the device in a cool and well-ventilated indoor area. Do not expose the device todirect sunlight. Use the device in an area with a temperature ranging from 0C to 40C.Do not block the openings on the device with any object. Reserve a minimum space of 10cm around the device for heat dissipation.Do not place any object (such as a candle or a water container) on the device. If anyforeign object or liquid enters the device, stop using the device immediately, power it off,remove all the cables connected to it, and then contact an authorized service center.During thunderstorms, power off the device, and then remove all the cables connected toit to prevent it from getting damaged due to lightning strikes.

Areas with Inammables and ExplosivesDo not use the device where inammables or explosives are stored, for example, in a gasstation, oil depot, or chemical plant. Otherwise, explosions or res may occur. In addi-tion, follow the instructions indicated in text or symbols.Do not store or transport the device in the same box as inammable liquids, gases, orexplosives.

Precautions for Using Wireless DevicesDo not use the device where using wireless devices is prohibited or may cause interfer-ence or danger.The radio waves generated by the device may interfere with the operation of electronicmedical devices. If you are using any electrical medical device, contact its manufacturerfor the restrictions on the use of the device.Do not take the device into operating rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), or coronarycare units (CCUs).

Accessory RequirementsUse only the accessories supplied or authorized by the device manufacturer. Otherwise,the performance of the device may get affected, the warranty for the device or the laws

and regulations related to telecommunications terminals may become null and void, or aninjury may occur.Do not use the power adapter if its cable is damaged. Otherwise, electric shocks or resmay occur.Ensure that the power adapter meets the specications indicated on the device name-plate.Ensure that the power adapter meets the requirements of Clause 2.5 in IEC60950-1/EN60950-1 and it is tested and approved according to national or local standards.

Safety of ChildrenKeep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children. Otherwise, they maydamage the device and its accessories by mistake, or they may swallow the small compo-nents of the device, causing suffocation or other dangerous situations.

MaintenanceIf the device is not used for a long time, power it off, and then remove all the cables con-nected to it.

If any exception occurs, for example, if the device emits any smoke or unusual sound orsmell, stop using the device immediately, power it off, remove all the cables connected toit, and then contact an authorized service center.Do not trample, pull, or overbend any cable. Otherwise, the cable may get damaged,causing malfunction of the device.Before cleaning the device, stop using it, power it off, and then remove all the cablesconnected to it.Use a clean, soft, and dry cloth to clean the device shell. Do not use any cleaning agent

or spray to clean the device shell.
