Officially opened on November 25, 2015 after ten years of Construction, the ACC is on government-founded organization which consists of the Culture Exchange, Archive&Research,Creation,Theater,Children.

공연예술작품의 제작과 유통 플랫폼을 지향합니다.

예술극장에서는 장르의 한계를 넘어 미래를 선도하는

‘창･제작공연’, 어린이부터 노년층까지 즐길 수 있 는

‘기획공연’, 주목할 만한 화제의 공연들을 초청하여 시민

문화향유에 기여하는‘초청공연’등을 진행합니다. 국내

최대 가변형 블랙박스 공연장인‘극장1’, 프로시니엄

공연장인‘극장2’, 강당형 공연장‘극장3’과 객석이 무대를

품고 있는 반원 형태의‘어린이극장’- 이러한 4개의

극장에서 연극, 무용, 클래식, 영화상영 등 다양한 멀티장르의

공연이 이루어집니다. 작은 동심원 ‘광주’에서 시작해 한국과

아시아, 나아가 세계와 교류하는 국제적 허브로서의 목표를

향해 그 역할을 다하겠습니다.

The ACC Theater has in place four different performance venues to accommodate all types and scales of stage events—play, dance, classical music and film screening. For instance, ACC Theater 1 is the largest black-box theater in the country, while ACC Theater 2 features the proscenium stage. We also have ACC Theater 3, which is an auditorium-type theater, and the Playhouse for Children where the seating section surrounds the stage area in a semi-circular shape. The ACC Theater is committed to play its role as an international h u b , a p o s i t i v e force in art and cultural exchange originating from G w a n g j u a n d reaching the entire nation of Korea and the entire world.

REPERTORY 01셰익스피어의 맥베스, 남도의 언어로 다시 태어나다.

대지를 휘감는 바람의 언어, 산천을 굽이 도는 강물의

언어 특유의 높낮이와 장단을 품은 음악의 가락, 남도

사투리 맥베스 사투리로 시도한 공연 작업도 있었을

것이다. 언어는 그 지역의 역원작과 그가 실재한 전기의

극적 공간은 바로 스코틀랜드, 당신 영국의 변방이다.

즉 사투리나 방언의 억양이 강한 지역이었다. 아마

고증에 입각했다면 스코틀랜드 사와 문화를 담아내는

그릇이다. 이런 믿음으로 국립아시아문화전당과

광주광역시립극단이 함께 셰익스피어의 고전을 남도로

현지화 하는 최초의 작업을 시작하였다.

광기 어린 야망의 상징 맥베스, 그리고 1606년 초연

411년 만에 재탄생 되는 <맥베스411> 운명이라는 미명

하에 밀실 속에서 자행된 한 인간의 악행이 어떻게

‘지금! 그리고 바로 이 곳’을 병들게 만들었는지…

실험적이고 독특한 무대와 현대 미학과 결합을 통해

여실하게 보여준다.

The language of a southern province breathes new life into Shakespeare’s masterpiece Macbeth. A language that whispers like wind sweeping over the land and flows like a river reaching every mountain, the dialect of the Jeolla province plays like a music with its unique cadence and melody It would not be a great surprise to find a Macbeth production done in a dialect. Macbeth is set in Scotland in the Middle Ages. It was a backwater region of the British Kingdom, notorious for its dialect and strong accent. Assuming that Shakespeare was faithful to historic facts, Macbeth could be a faithful reflection of the Scottish society and culture of the period. Inspired by this idea, the Asian Culture Center and the Gwangju Metropolitan Theater made a first-ever attempt at localizing Shakespeare’s masterpiece into the dialect of the Jeolla province. Macbeth, the quintessential symbol of vaulting ambition, achieves new life 411 years after its ca. 1606 premiere with Macbeth 411, which tells the story of a man who secretly commits an act of evil and then justifies it in the name of destiny. The unique and experimental stage of ACC Theater and the modern aesthetics of the production add clarity to the story about how a man’s bloodshed poisons this time and place. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is done, to see.

재독 안무가 허용순 버전의 사랑과 비극의 판타지

국립아시아문화전당과 광주시립발레단이 공동제작한

재독 안무가 허용순 버전의 <로미오와 줄리엣>은

셰익스피어 원작의 르네상스 배경에서 벗어나 생동감

있고 현대적인 캐릭터의 각색으로 한층 아름답고

비극적인 사랑이야기를 전한다. 극의 첫 장면을 오랜

원수지간인 캐퓰릿가와 몬태규가의 대립하는 장소로

당구장 세트를 사용했고 화려하고 심플한 무대와 의상,

조명 연출 등에서 현재의 시점을 느낄 수 있다. 또한 원작

줄거리를 착실히 묘사하기 때문에 빠른 장면전환에도

극 전개의 이해가 쉽고 장면이 자연스럽게 연결된다.

해외에서 30년 이상 활동하고 있는 안무가 허용순은

작품 전반에 밝고 활기차지만 비극적 상황에서는 무겁고

집요한 움직임을 선보인다. 발레 테크닉을 중심축으로

곡예적인 포즈나 유머가 넘치는 동작, 직접적으로

감정을 드러내는 사실적 표현 방식으로 작품의 드라마를

완성시킨다. 2007년 독일 슈베린 컴퍼니 초연, 2014년

독일 아우크스부르크 발레단 재안무가 진행되었고

2017년 국립아시아문화전당에서 한국 초연한

작품이다.

A Fantasy of Love and Tragedy from Germany-based Choreographer Young Soon HueCo-produced by the Asia Culture Center and Gwangju City Ballet, this contemporary reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet by Germany-based Choreographer Young Soon Hue transforms the characters from Renaissance Italy into dynamic and energetic characters to add vitality and beauty to the tragic love story. This shows clearly in the opening in which the Capulets and Montagues, caught up in the long-standing feud between their families, plunge into a fight in a modern-day billiard room. A modern sensibility is highlighted throughout the performance with minimal but elegant sets and costumes and the careful use of lighting. The faithful adaptation of the original plot helps audience follow the story developing at a fast pace and ensures smooth segues as the scenes unfold.Hue, whose successful international career spans a period of 30 years, punctuates a vibrant and energetic choreography with forceful and determined moves in emotionally-charged, tragic scenes. Hue sets the tone of her choreography with classical ballet techniques, but adds drama and reality to the story with acrobatic moves, humorous gestures, and the direct and realistic expression of emotions.Premiered by Schwerin Ballet Company (Germany) in 2007, this Romeo and Juliet adaptation was re-choreographed in 2014 for Augsburg Ballet and premiered in Korea at the ACC Theater in 2017.

한국 대표 단편 소설의 문학적 가치를 현대적 정서로

각색하여 청소년들에게는 보다 흥미롭게, 성인들에게는

추억을 선물하는 온 가족이 함께 공유할 수 있는 가족

뮤지컬이다. 시대와 상황은 다르지만 사랑에 대한

인간 내면의 오묘한 심리를 문학적 색채로 표현한

김유정의 동백꽃(1930년 작), 봄봄(1935년 작),

주요섭의 사랑손님과 어머니(1935년 작), 황순원의

소나기(1953년 작),이효석의 메밀꽃 필 무렵(1936년

작)을 한국적 정서와 전통성을 기반으로 현대적 감성의

가족뮤지컬로 재해석하였다.

연극“소”는 극장1의 특화된 극장 구조 및 시스템을

살린 최적화 콘텐츠 개발을 목표로 진행된‘ACC 예술극장

최적화공연 개발사업 1기’선정작이다. 연극“소”는 우화를

바탕으로 우리 현실에 던지는 분단의 문제, 전쟁에 대한

걱정과 평화에 대한 희구, 자연 생태계의 복원 등의 주제를

퐁자와 해학을 담아‘냉철 한 현실인식’의 차원으로

승화시킬 것이다. 극장1에서 처음 시도하는 로드무대에서

ACC 만의 독특한 공연을 만나볼 수 있을 것이다.

This project was launched in 2016 to develop content that makes full use of the unique layout and system of ACC Theater 1.

Deriving the inspiration from a Korean fable, the play Bull Cow directs our attention to the serious and realistic issues such as the divided Korea, the fear of war and longing for peace, and restoration of the natural ecosystem, and helps us squarely face the reality with a sense of humor and wit. <오셀로(Othello)>를 판소리로 새롭게 제작한다.

창작집단‘희비쌍곡선’은 차세대를 대표하는

국악인‘박인혜’와 전통공연양식의 표현

가능성을 꾸준히 확장해온 연출가‘임영욱’이

함께하는 창작집단으로, 판소리를 기반으로

동시대적인 테마와 정서를 적절하게 담아내는

작업을 하고 있다.

동/서양의 구분에 갇히지 않고‘오늘에 맞게

과거를 불러들인다.’는 콘셉트에 의해, 판소리

<오셀로>는 풍자와 해학의 묘미를 충분히 살리는

것은 물론 동시대 관객으로 하여금 작품을 보는

데서 오는 공감과 감동 또한 한껏 불러일으킬

것이다.

The ACC co-produces a pansori adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello with HeebieJeebie Juice, an artist ensemble that draws creative inspirations from pansori to explore the themes and emotions of our times, under the leadership of Park Inhye, one of the leading gugak artists of her generation, and Lim Youngwook, a director who dedicated his career to expanding the language of Korea’s traditional performing arts.Faithful to its theme, “Reminisce the past for the present and transcend the boundary between the East and the West,” this pansori adaptation of Othello skillfully evokes the wit and humor of pansori and elicits a range of emotions from contemporary audiences.

Her name is Movich, and She is a little street musician. Movich is left all alone in the world but does not feel lonely, because she has the sun who gives her warmth like a mother’s embrace. But, suddenly, the sun begins to move, leaving Movich alone! “Please don’t go! Don’t leave me alone!” she shouts, and runs after the sun.Where on earth is Movich headed?

An Eco-Sound Play Recreates the Sounds of Central Asia

Little Musician is an eco-sound play that relies primarily on the sounds and movements that actors make on the stage to engage children and encourage them to use their imagination. To give a clear sense of what is happening on stage, three actors and five sound actors constantly make sounds and play music, inviting children to immerse themselves in a unique experience created by the live sound performance.

명화 속 신기한 수학 이야기 (김흥규, 이명옥

著, 시공사, 2005)를 원안으로 살아움직이는

듯한 그림들과, 인터렉션 기법을 활용한 영상

연출, 수와 도형으로 이뤄진 무대에서 일상에서

발견할 수 있는 수(數)와 미(美)를 라이브 연주와

움직임의 언어 관객의 호흡으로 찾아낸다. 새하얀

쌀가루 행성에는 누가 살고 있나?

해 뜨지 않아 어두운 쌀가루 행성,‘0’을 찾아

떠난 나그네 수가 쌀가루 행성에 들어선다,

행성의 주인이자 왕인 미(美)는 단잠을 깨운

불청객 에게 청소부가 아니면 화를 내겠다고

말하고 이에 수는 그만 자신이 청소부 라고

거짓말을 하고 만다. 가까스로 위기를 모면한

수가 행성을 떠나려는 무렵 진짜 청소부가

등장하게 되고 쌀가루 행성의 해가 뜨고 마는데

진짜 청소부는 누구일까? 미는 진짜 청소부를

가려내기 위해 청소부가 선물한 그림들을 모조리

꺼내 설명해보라 한다. 각자의 방식대로 그림을

설명하는 두 남자 거짓말을 하는 자와 누명을 쓴

자의 치열한 대결!

Adapted from the book A Fantastic Tale of Numbers Found in Famous Paintings (written by Kim Honggyu and Lee Myeongok, published in 2005 by Sigongsa), this children’s musical skillfully uses the paintings full of vitality, interactive video images, and a stage formed by numbers and geographic shapes, and discovers the numbers and beauty in our everyday life through the flow of a live music performance, the language of movements, and interaction with audiences. Who Lives on the Snowy White Rice Flour Planet? Number the Wanderer, who is in search of Zero, reaches the Rice Flour Planet, which is always dark because it has no sun. MEE, the owner and king of the planet, becomes extremely annoyed by this uninvited guest for waking him up from a sweet slumber. MEE tells Number he would unleash his anger unless Number was a cleaning man.Frightened by the king’s anger, Number tells the king that he was a cleaning man. After narrowly escaping the king’s anger, Number decides to leave the planet. To his surprise, the real cleaning man arrives at the planet as Number was about to leave. The sun suddenly rises on the Rice Planet. Who is the Real Cleaning Man? In order to determine who was the real cleaning man, MEE tells the men to talk about the paintings he has received from the cleaning man. Both of the men talk about the paintings, in their own way. And the face-off between the liar and the innocent ensues!
