Your TEXAS Grant award was based on thefollowing eligibility requirements:-Being a Texas resident
-Having not been convicted of a felony or crime involving controlled substance
-
Demonstrating financial need.-Having an EFC less than or equal to 4000
- Having met Selective Service registration requirements
AND
- Having completed the Recommended
High School Diploma
- Having no more than 30 semester credithours, except those earned for dual orconcurrent enrollment or awarded for creditby examination
- Having earned an associate degree
from a public technical, state orcommunity college in Texas no earlierthan May 1, 2001
- Enrolling in any public university in Texasno more than 12 months after receivingthe associate degree

Complete this workshop and pass the quiz. Your TEXASGrant award will be automatically accepted within 2 businessdays after the workshop is completed. You will not be able toaccept the award through ASSIST,
Complete the Texas Controlled Substance Act Statement ofStudent Eligibility available on ASSIST and the UTPA FinancialAid website,
Submit an Official High School Transcript to the Office of
Admissions if you received your award based on your HighSchool graduation.
Be registered or exempt with Selective Service.
Enroll in at least 9 credit hours each semester. However , full-time enrollment is recommended.

Can I get this award every semester?Yes, TEXAS Grant is a renewal grant. To receive arenewal award, students must meet the followingrequirements:
complete each academic year making satisfactoryacademic progress as required by the TEXAS Grantprogram
Be classified as a Texas resident
Show financial need; Be registered with the Selective Service System ifnot exempt, and
Have not been convicted of a felony or crimeinvolving controlled substances.

The academic requirements for continuing inthe program are:
- At the end of the first year, a student entering the
program must be meeting UTPAs SatisfactoryAcademic Progress (SAP) requirements (next slide).
- At the end of the second year in the program and
later years, all students must complete TEXAS GrantSAP requirements.

UTPA Satisfactory Academic Progress PolicyYou must meet these requirements at the end of each semester of your first year in the
program
Your Satisfactory Academic Progress will be evaluated at the end of each semester, once grades areposted.
QUALITATIVE OR GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA) REQUIREMENTS- Students with 1 to 29 earned credits cumulative GPA of 1.70- Students with 30 to 59 earned credits cumulative GPA of 1.80
- Students with 60 to 89 earned credits cumulative GPA of 2.00- Students with 90 or greater earned credits cumulative GPA of 2.00
QUANTITATIVE, OR PROGRESSION, REQUIREMENTS Students must pass and complete a minimum of 67% of all attempted courses.
Classes must be completed with a passing grade. Failing grades, drops,incompletes, and withdrawals can affect a students ability to keep theirfinancial aid, including TEXAS Grant.
For example, a freshmen that has attempted 30 credit hours and hassatisfactorily completed 24 of those credit hours would have completed80% of attempted credits.

UTPA Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
WARNING PERIODStudents who fail to meet the minimum requirements, will be allowed one warningsemester to restore satisfactory standing. Financial aid will be processed for onesemester only. At the end of the warning semester, the student must have regainedsatisfactory SAP status in order to continue receiving financial aid.
FINANCIAL AID SUSPENSIONStudents who fail to earn the minimum requirements during the warning semester will beconsidered as not making SAP and all financial assistance will be terminated orsuspended until the student regains minimum satisfactory academic progress standards.Students may re-establish eligibility for upcoming periods by achieving the satisfactoryprogress standards set by the TEXAS Grant Program. After a student has re-establishedeligibility, he/she may be considered for aid for upcoming periods but not for periodsduring which the standard had not been met.
Important: The warning period only applies to the first year in the program sincestarting with the 2nd year, students must meet all the TEXAS Grant SAPrequirements.

TEXAS GRANT SAP RequirementsAt the end of the second year in the program and later years,
all students must complete the following requirements.
Have an cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Complete at least 75 percent of the hoursattempted hours in the prior academicyear
Complete at least 24 semester credithours per academic year
*Summer classes can be used to raise students GPA orhours and percentage completed.Student will loose TEXASGrant for an entire yearif they are not meeting the 75% andthe 24 hour requirements by the end of the academic year(including summer).

TEXAS Grant Appeals
A student who is denied TEXAS Grant because of a failure to meet theTEXAS Grant satisfactory academic progress standards may appealthis determination to the Satisfactory Academic Progress AppealsCommittee of the Office of Student Financial Services by completing aStudent Appeal Form by published deadlines. An appeal must be
based on significant mitigating circumstances, circumstances thatseriously affected academic performance. Examples of possiblemitigating circumstances are serious illness, severe injury, death of afamily member, and other similar situations. The appeal must includean explanation of why the student failed to meet SAP standards, andwhat has changed that will now allow the student to regain
satisfactory SAP status. Appeals can only be approved if it appearsthat the student can regain satisfactory SAP status after the end of thefollowing semester of enrollment, or if the student can regainsatisfactory SAP status by following an academic plan that will lead totimely completion of the degree program.

register with the Selective Service System.This requirement covers both citizens of theUnited States and most other men residing inthe United States including illegal aliens,permanent residents and refugees. Students

Selective Service SystemMost students are given the opportunity to register aspart of the application process. Theres a question on the
FAFSA that asks if the student wants Selective Serviceto register him. By answering Yes, the student gives
the Department of Education permission to submit hisregistration information to the Selective Service so thatthe student may be registered. The student may also godirectly to the Selective Service website at
www.sss.gov and register online.Students who have questions about Selective Serviceregistration may contact the Selective Service at 1-847-688-6888 or on the web.

Selective Service System(Senate Bill Students)
Students completing the paper FAFSA (Senate Bill
Students) will not be able to register using the FAFSA orSAR. They will need to obtain a Selective Service mail-
back registration form from any U.S Post Office, fill it out(leaving the space for his Social Security Number blankif they havent obtained on), affix postage and mail it to
Selective Service.
Students will then receive in the mail a RegistrationAcknowledgement Card. A copy of the card must beprovided to the Office of Financial Aid at UTPA andregistration confirmed before any financial aid can bedisbursed.

Statement of Student EligibilityBeginning with the 2010-11 year, institutions are required to
collect a statement from each TEXAS Grant recipient prior tothe disbursement of funds confirming eligibility in regards tothe controlled substance restrictions of the program.
The Statement of Student Eligibility is available throughASSIT and UTPA Financial Aid website. Once the form issubmitted, it is the students responsibility to notify the
Financial Aid Office if there are any changes in the statusregarding Chapter 481, Health and Safety Code (TexasControlled Substances Act). Failure to provide accurateinformation will required reimbursement to the University ofTexas-Pan American and penalties may be imposed.

Official High School TranscriptStudents getting TEXAS Grant based ontheir High School graduation are required
to submit an Official High SchoolTranscript to the Office of Admissions atUTPA. The Official High School Transcriptmust be on file prior to the disbursement offunds.
