Ouma-Ma-Dogter Tee by Hoërskool Calitzdorp
Hoërskool Calitzdorp het 140 gaste gehad by 'n Ouma-Ma-Dogter Tee op 31 Augustus. Die spreker in ouerleiding, Filistea Barnard, het die tema uitgebou met waardes waarmee ons elke dag ons koppies moet vul. Die koor het pragtig gesing en dit was 'n feestelike en verrykende aand. Daar was 30 gelukkige trekkings en elke moeder of ouma het 'n koppie met 'n Karoo-roos as geskenk gekry.

Bergsig Dip and Deworming is coming up next Thursday 14th
September between 2 and 4pm . For R10 per ticket we will be
raffling a Dog Kennel donated by Boplaas.
None of us likes to confront some of life’s harsh realities, however
we are so desperate for help something needs to be said. The vast
majority of cats here are taken in by people to kill the vermin. They
are not fed but expected to fend for themselves. Provided they do
their job and are not killed by dogs, they are tolerated. Once the job
is done they are left to reproduce, scavenge, succumb to disease or
starve. Is anyone who is reading this prepared to help us attack this
horrific problem? Just a few hours a month will make a huge
difference.

Die volgende Bergsig dip- en ontwurmingdag vind plaas op
Donderdag 14 September. ‘n Hondehok wat deur Boplaas geskenk
is, sal dan uitgeloot word teen R10 per kaartjie.
Niemand van ons hou daarvan om met die harde werklikhede van
die lewe gekonfronteer te word nie, maar ons is só desperaat vir
hulp dat ons sal sê wat nodig is om gesê te word. Die oorgrote
meerderheid van katte hier word deur mense aangeskaf bloot om
muise en rotte te vang. Hulle word dus nie gevoer nie, maar moet vir
hulself sorg. Hulle word verdra terwyl hulle hul werk doen en nie
deur honde aangeval word nie, maar andersins word hulle gelaat
om voort te plant, te aas, siek te word of van honger dood te gaan.
Is daar dalk iemand wat hierdie berig lees wat bereid is om ons te
help om hierdie vreeslike probleem aan te spreek? Slegs ‘n paar ure
per maand kan ‘n reuse verskil maak.

20 000 copies of the guide are distributed through the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, as well as at the Oudtshoorn & De Rust

Vetplantfees 23 – 25 September 2017
Well, Vetplantfees is HERE. Your planning committee has worked for 6 months to bring the event to pass. We all think that it is
going to be a smash hit!
Our meeting this month will be held at the Calitzdorp Railway Station on Sunday September 10 at 2:00 PM.
This will be a run through of all of the functions of the Vetplantfees and you can see where you might fit in and help out.
I am repeating myself (it is in the newsletter) but we could not be happier with the event which is still 2 weeks away. We have
great plant vendors, beautiful art, fantastic speakers, an auction that will knock your eyes out, wonderful food vendors, a great
children's area, veld walks that are already more than 50% sold out.
In short Calitzdorp will host the first ever Vetplantfees that will be the introduction to people from all over the Western Cape to
our village.

A total of six Veld Walks with be conducted by local succulent experts and guide Kevin Koen and booking is essential. The walks
are charged at R150 per person for a 90-minute walk and must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. For more

Calitzdorp Vetplant Festival 23 - 25 September 2017 The Calitzdorp Succulent Society is introducing its first Vetplantfees to be held in the heart of the Klein Karoo, a region where many of the succulents endemic to South Africa, can be seen in their natural environment. The event will provide a showcase of many of South Africa’s beautiful and rare succulents while succulents from all over the world will be on show. Succulent enthusiasts who visit Calitzdorp during the festival will be able to immerse themselves in a range of activities to discover the world of succulents. Whether you live in Calitzdorp, Cape Town, George or Johannesburg you will see indigenous and rare succulents in their natural habitat, buy specimens not available in nurseries, and get advice on how to propagate, grow and care for succulents in your garden. 07 October, Saturday 10:00 Land Rover convoy will assemble at the Calitzdorp Spa Entrance. A Land rover count will be done.
11:00 The convoy will depart to Calitzdorp and drive through the historic Queens road, thereafter the day is at leisure to visit our world renown Wine Cellars.
18:00 Light those fires and enjoy an unforgetable evening with friends, live music and shared potjies. Potjies will be judged and the winner anounced at 21:00.
27 October, Sunday Time to say goodbye. Boplaas, Peter Bayly and De Krans Wineries will be open for breakfast and wine tasting. (Passengers only)
