The Renovation Committee has begun meeting twice a month to do prep work for the Peel House project. The group is currently refining building use plans and firming that up in preparation for

the architects to begin final design drawings. The Peel House Fund received a generous dona-tion of $25,000 to get us started with the site de-velopment work that has begun. This is in addi-tion to the memorials for Diane Hart dedicated to the Peel House Renovation at her request. These gifts are encouraging as we haven’t even started the capital campaign yet! We certainly have very generous members! We are currently praying over names for the capital campaign leadership team and which congregation members will be asked to serve on the steering committee. The capital campaign will require over 100 volunteers, so we ask everyone to be ready to play a part. -Pastor Travis

ELCA Teaching Adventures Available

Our ELCA Global Missionary and Regional Representative for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Rev. Viking Dietrich, has an exciting opportunity for teachers. The ELCA is currently seeking to fill 12 teaching positions in Central Europe including Slovakia and neighboring countries. Many of these teachers are people recently retired and who are looking for an adventure and a way to use their gifts. Some of them call it “giving back”. Other teachers are often young people who want an adventure before settling down or want to have an experience teaching and living overseas. Some have teacher training, some do not. Some have a personal connection to Central Europe, some do not. Some stay for just the one year, and some renew for multiple years. TEFL/TESOL training is not required, only a university diploma (a bachelors). You will find further information posted on the Global Mission bulletin board in the thruway. If you are interested, you can find the application online at - http:/elca.atsondemand.com/index.cfmfuseaction=512830.viewjobdetail&CID=512830&JID=659824

Seeds of Joy Gardening Group

The Last Week of Jesus’ Life

This study, being led by Pastor Bob, examines what biblical scholars think happened during the final week of Jesus’ life. We have journied from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday with professors Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan. Both have written extensively on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The book The Last Week by Crossan and Borg is used and is available for $12.00.

What’s So Amazing About Grace?

What’s So Amazing About Grace is a book written by Philip Yancey. We will view a short video by Yancey about the topics to the right followed by discussion.

Homelessness

Jesus was born to a family that lacked shelter at his birth, and they subsequently became refugees when they fled to Egypt. In Matthew 25, Jesus has us ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry, thirsty and naked?” Nakedness is not just referring to the absence of clothing. Nakedness implies being stripped of EVERYTHING in life – home, shelter, food, clothing, belongings. The ELCA Social Statement Homelessness: A Renewal of Commitment will be used for study. First Lutheran Church’s Strategic Plan includes a goal to address local homelessness. We will also discuss The City of Colorado Springs Action Plan for Homeless Response and The City’s Affordable Housing Task Force.

Children’s and Youth Ministry NEW this Summer!

Join First Lutheran for our Summer Children’s and Youth Ministry. Parents or caregivers and toddlers to age 6, will have structured time to-gether with a storyteller, a craft or game and snacks from 9:00-10:30. Kids in grades 1-5 will also have different activities, games, crafts and stories. Afterwards, all are invited for coffee and snacks, to play at the playground or enjoy some games on the lawn. We are excited to bring together our community, families and youth to grow with each other and make new friends here in the Old North End. For more information contact Pastor Carrie at [email protected].

Concert Encounters With Heaven

This concert interweaves elegant harp music and vocal harmonies with true stories of those who have experienced God’s surprising presence in encounters with heaven, miracles, angels, Jesus and more. The repertoire includes beautiful renditions of peaceful Christian music, beloved hymns, and even a couple popular favorites that can be seen as having spiritual overtones: What a Wonderful World (gratitude for God’s creation) and Somewhere Over the Rainbow (looking forward to heaven). All are invited to attend.

Vacation Bible School

Come join your old friends and bring a new friend for a faith filled week of songs, stories, arts and activities. We gather together each day for fun activities led by staff from Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp and our own KICK team. This a great opportunity for kids to make new friends, learn about God, and hear everyday that Jesus loves them no matter what, and so do we. Registration and details will be available on our website under News at www.flccsc.net.

COMING THIS SPRING AND SUMMER

Trail Trekkers’ May Schedule

Saturday,May4-TunnelDrive-CanonCity Directions: Meet in the parking lot for the Red Rabbit Café, 124 E. Cheyenne Mt. Bring a sack lunch to eat on the trail. Five miles; rated moderately easy. Sign up in church or e-mail Judy if you plan to join us.([email protected])

Women’s Bible Study

The Armor of God—All day, every day, an invisi-ble war rages around you. A cunning devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc that matters to you. But his reign stops right here, right now. With you. This 7 lesson Bible study is more than just a biblical description of the believer’s inventory. It’s an action plan for putting on your armor and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory against the enemy. Yes… a strategy. Author Priscilla Shirer will bring to light the war, and challenge you to suit up, stand firm, and secure victory in our life.
